The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

- “I Have This Dream” from c. 2005-2006 which was confirmed by Damien Shields to be fully complete and ready for release.
"I Have This Dream" isn't fully complete since it's missing a polished vocal from MJ but it's close enough. There is a demo vocal that could be makeshift into being put on the song but it wouldn't be up to MJ's standards.

It's actually sad just how close the song was to being completed, according to the "When the Sheikh met the King" book the song was already mixed with everyone having recorded their parts, and there were even recording sessions scheduled for MJ to record his final vocals, but since he wouldn't show up it made the track be shelved. It's as if We Are The World had been cancelled when all that was left to do was for MJ to record his parts. It's truly a waste.
"With the bulk of "I Have This Dream" recorded and mixed, the 2 Seas Studios team had nervously been waiting for Jackson's final vocal track for months. Back at the recording sessions in October Abdullah and Jackson had agreed that the icon's singing had not been up to standard. The sheikh booked one final session at Metropolis studios but Jackson failed to turn up, leaving their multimillion dollar charity record and the king of pop's comeback, in limbo."

I think it's possible that the song RedOne mentioned that could be released is indeed called "Dancing For Love", RedOne said on an interview not too long ago that the song is about love.

Or maybe not since "love" is such a common theme in a lot of MJ's songs lol. Could be a different song entirely.
Yeah, he says that it would be him with a few artists. So not finished. Unless he's talking about an album with other artists on. Very vague.

Iirc Damien also said that when he interviewed RedOne he mentioned that there were no complete songs and that he would need to bring in other vocalists for them to be released, so that seems to be the case. I was more so talking about the possible name of the song RedOne says it's the most complete out of his other songs.

Hot Fun In The Summertime? With Mary J Blige and.... someone? I think there were a few heads involved in that one for Michael in 2010. Not sure if that's the one.
I thought McClain was working on Hot Fun in 2013/4.

Anyway, confirmed songs that were posthumously reworked/remixed but didn't make Michael or Xscape

  • TYLA
  • IYDLM
  • WALWTG

Did I miss any other track?

Make or Break isn't complete.

"Make or Break was a song written by Michael and myself. It was never fully finished. There was a demo incomplete vocal. There is a partial lyric as well. It was the third piece of music I created using the Synclavier. I like its potential as a song." - John Barnes
Barnes went into further detail on this song. I think it was on the MJ Cast interview. Basically, this is the one unreleased song that got away. Meaning, it was on track to have great potential, but other things came up and for whatever reason, was put on the back burner. It was the one song Barnes and MJ talked about later on, wishing they finished.

I know that Chicago 1945, Get Your Weight Off Of Me, Turning Me Off, and The Loser were at least thought about, but I don’t think they were reworked.

Thanks for sharing mate, it's still baffling to me that WALWTG was considered for rework, the song just seems so rough and unfinished

@Gaz @Beano Wild

Just a thought: is it possible to create a subforum with restricted access and/or writing permissions for selected (non trolling) users in order to invite engineers/collaborators? Such a forum could be used as a platform to ask anything about the recording proccess in the studio.
Great idea, but i don't think it'd fit the fourm since its a public fourm. A feature we don't see being used nowadays is thew Chat rooms feature in the chat at the bottom of everyone's screen that would be good for this.

Sounds very pleasant to me
Man this snippet takes me back, I remember listening to it a lot right before the world went to shit because of Covid. Can't believe it's been more than 4 years already.

But anyway- Honestly I'm glad that the song didn't end up leaking in 2020, I'm not really a fan of the song but it was still nice to have it as a surprise for T40. Made the fact that 50% of the disc was re-releases hurt less.

It would be great to have it now.

When the seller first sent it to me I nearly had a heart attack. I was in possession of genuine MJ unreleased material - even if it was only 8 seconds or whatever. I had to put it straight on YouTube after verifying with a few people.

My first proper insight into the MJ unreleased underworld. So many morons coming after me, saying it was fake, lyrics made no sense.. then Thriller 40 dropped and.. crickets. Lol

Production sounds cool but I agree with Ronson when he said there was nothing he could do with it. The song has no real lyrics...it was a waste of production.
I agree. I wonder why the Estate chose to give him this specific song, it’s always seemed like a weird choice to me.

I wonder if the estate at some point thought they didn't have much else to use. Only reason I can think they'd even consider that song when there's so much better stuff there (at the time)

There was no rhyme or reason for the tracklisting of the Michael album, it was as jumbled and confused as can be. Maybe that or they figured they'd be making an album a year and might as well start preparing now. They reworked Love Never Felt So Good that same year, and it did eventually get put on a record, Xscape.

WALWTG also did, just untouched. The song is underrated to me though. Compositionally, it's actually stronger than many of MJs tunes, with the intense vocal ideas and the really long and extravagant bridge. It just needed to be fleshed out lyrically.

Don't forget about DYKWYCA and STTR.
I am not forgetting them, I'm ignoring them. I'm not counting the stuff they reworked, two times over. Otherwise, She Was Lovin' Me 2010 also exists. And possibly a Blue Gangsta version by Freeze.

The version of LNFSG that was produced for Michael, explicitly, ended up on Xscape. Not just the song in general.

Out of curiosity, is there still a way to get Mark's reworked version? I believe its price dropped dramatically after T40 lol
No idea. The place I was trying to get it from shut down. I know for definite another collector was in for it because I was speaking to them. Not sure if they got it
