The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

I know this has been posted many times before but I never realized at the beginning of this video and at the 30 second mark, you can hear a quick snippet of the music for Groove of Midnight that was released by Siedah Garrett.

This tells me that this song by MJ has at the very least guide vocals. I'm guessing it was almost fully recorded. Don't think there's anything else with Rod Temperton meant for BAD, but there should at least be this song, which should be a gem.

Whoever leaked this must have the full version. What's the story behind this leak?

"Rod Temperton had some songs", remembers Matt Forger. “Quincy asked him to have songs ready. Groove of Midnight is one of these songs. However we searched and we could not find a version with Michael’s vocals. It wasn’t a song that they considered for the BAD album eventually”.

I remember this story. But obviously somebody has a version with MJ's vocals.

Well if this is the case, this has to be one of the best songs in the vault.

Copyright issue with Rod? It has to be found and released.
Matt Forger didn't find it in the vaults. But it remains to be seen who can have the version and the status of the song remains to be seen.

In any case the Estate apparently has disagreements with Rod Temperton's The Estate. Apparently there were complications between the two Estates and this is one of the reasons for the 1 year postponement of the documentary Thriller 40.

But I agree, if the song exists and is complete, it could be a very good song.
I'm trying to find out if there are any other unknown unreleased songs by Rod Temperton, but it's still quite complicated to get information.

I remember hearing back in the early 2010s that “Thriller” was almost excluded from Michael Jackson’s This Is It because Temperton wanted too much money to sign off on its inclusion. Never saw if this was confirmed or not, but it seems like there’s long lasting tensions there.

IF the song does exist and in full, it is more likely with Temperton's Estate.

I Rod and MJ weren't on good terms in the later years due to Thriller

Not sure how true that is, given that they had met up in late 2008 to work together. Maybe there were some royalty issues but it didn’t seem to be that large on Rod’s mind at the time.
I was just gonna mention that. They were working together on and off in 2008 (and I assume 09). Rod was gonna work with MJ in London during this is it. I think MJ was going to actually record the songs for his next album then.

Speaking of those songs, I wish somebody would write a book focusing on the tracks MJ had earmarked for the London sessions—like those on those handwritten lists. Even though we don’t have a track list, we have an idea of where his mind was and it’s wild to me that we know next to nothing about dozens of those songs.

It was leaked around 2004 iirc, it was a part of a big auction of 50 DAT Tapes from the BAD sessions, and this was shared to a user back in the day by the original seller. It spread around & the auction kept being unlisted n' relisted over & over again. I believe it was $30k the last time it appeared in 2016/2017? Had a lot of interesting stuff iirc.

Yes that would be great but I’ll do you one better. An anthology of the songs themselves in their most complete stage as of June 25, 2009. Mixed by the original producers. Even if they are just instrumentals, I’d love to hear them. Songs like “D.I.E” are only instrumentals but have a very interesting descriptions. For example from Damien’s description it seems to be a rockier style track but with drops in the music and builds back up. So I am assuming something like a rockier adore you.

Smh I honestly can't believe so much mj content exist & we get crumbs of everything. I will never understand WTF IS THE ISSUE WITH THIS ESTATE!

Has this song been discussed? (Watch the entire video)
Interesting. I would think it would've been for the experimental kids album that would've been slated for 1985. Songs like Make A Wish, Neverland Landing, Scared of the Moon, etc. That's my guess.

It says 1982 so.....idk

I have serious doubts that “Where is Love?” is truly recorded.

In any case the sources are incorrect.

There were plans for an experimental kids album..?

The clipping in the video is from one I posted in here a while ago. It was recorded during Thriller

Not a kids album but a concept album that was to be released after Thriller. The songs were to cover starvation, children and older people with songs like Life of Chico, Thank You for Life and Susie being possible contenders

Yes. It was supposed to be an album for children. Scared of the Moon was going to be the big song for it, amongst others. It never materialized as I think he started on Captain Eo and then BAD.
That's a pretty dark song for children, maybe it was inspired by children?
