The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

I made a note on the tracker about how i'd heard 2 OTW tracks before with a different singer but I couldn't remember the guys name since it was a few years ago. Well i found them haha! James Whitney reworked "Goodness Knows" and "We Are The Ones" and released them in 2020. This is a cool insight into what the MJ versions might've been like if he ended up recording them im not sure if he did. I really like "Goodness Knows" would kill to hear an MJ vocal on it if such a thing exists.

He also did "Disco Kids" and "Sweet Music" but I've never heard those.

If MJ’s versions are like this, keep them in the vault. Not good

Yeah songs are ass but I could see Goodness Knows being turned into something good. I'm more so just geeked by the fact I found out these old ass titles that've been around for decades we finally know the bts on them and they turned out to be Motown tracks the entire time.

I like "We Are The Ones". MJ's version gotta sound more dated than this if indeed there is one, those percussions sound way too modern.

But it's funny, there was never anything about the song that linked it to "We Are The World" but I always imagined it borrowing the same line and melody from it. They're absolutely zero alike. It's the funny thing about hearing a "new" song, it completely differs from your expectations lol.

Well yeah its a remixed version so the production is definitely updated, as are some of the lyrics because there are lines about texting lol. Still baffled i found this lmao

We Are The Ones registered as solely written by Michael. Are we sure that’s the same one from James? Wouldn’t he have to go the MJE to release this? I always thought You Are the Ones from An American Dream was a revised We Are the Ones

Correct but it is confirmed that he did record "Goodness Knows" and he also at least co-wrote "We Are The Ones". The other 2 are left up to in the air atm.
Where was that confirmed? I must have missed that. And if he did record it, are we thinking late 70's? Would it be considered an OTW outtake?

During Michael’s deposition, a lot of the songs mentioned from mid 70’s he said were considered for OTW. I don’t know if I would call them outtakes or songs discarded during pre production of the album as we never seen an early track list for OTW

If you see my posts above I posted a quote from one of the cowriters for the track who confirmed Michael recorded it in 75, making it obviously before OTW, I put it under Forever, Michael which came out in 75 but it's not confirmed if it was for that project or not

His memory seems fuzzy on old songs like not recalling Paul Anka as a cowriter on LNFSG for example so I do take his claims there regarding time periods and credits with a grain of salt but a registration is more solid proof I can get behind. Definitely a different song then yeah haha my bad. I figured they were the same track since the time periods were so close and have the same title. Good catch!

Forever, Michael was with Motown so I doubt it ever had a chance for that album. Maybe considered for The Jacksons album? Could've competed with Blues Away?

Off The Wall and History/Botdf seem to be the only projects he broke his habit of over recording for.

Also around 1975, wasn't there an album or some songs worked on with Bobby Taylor?
No clue, never had any interest in Motown stuff whatsoever, I actually forget the solo Motown albums exist 90% of the time which I'm sure is a hot take. To me they're not Michael Jackson albums the same way OTW onward is because he didnt have any hand in writing or producing any of the material like his adult albums so he was pretty much just a meat puppet for the label. Plus i just dont find the material all that good in general tbh. That's a whole other convo tho 😭

Michael’s memory was fuzzy but even if he forgot if there was a cowriter, the original copyright still shows written by Paul and MJ…..BUT Michael saying he was a sole writer could also mean he was talking about his revised version as he allegedly stole the tape

unrelated, but listening to the Dolby Atmos version of Scream is insane. The mixing on it is different, but it has more emphasis on the guitars which is awesome. Not to mention that the transition segment from Michael to Janet's verse has an unused beatbox by Michael that you can't hear in the normal version, as well as strings in the choruses that sound, weird but cool (I think they were present on the normal version, but super quiet) Absolutely awesome and insane

Thank you very much 😇 Is that real? I have always doubts of podcasts... what is it about?
It essentially breaks down the production of the Michael album, the background of the Cascio tracks, and where the case stands today. Like dam2040 said, it is incredibly repetitive and some episodes are less “interesting” than others (though of course all are necessary in painting the big picture). It’s worth a listen because the story is absolutely baffling.

There‘s no official Dolby Atmos version of Scream, only the Thriller album has been remixed officially
