Putting that aside, I really don't think SUAD should be released with another artist's vocals. I really can't imagine anyone else singing like that, only MJ and Erik. It should be released as is, as a tribute.

Exactly. I don't think the producers care about leaks anymore. The songs have no monetary value outside private collections. The Estate won't use any of them and the producers can't use the songs since they include "Michael Jackson" on registration.

I think they are referring to the weird vocal effect in the verse after the bridge. The vocal goes back to normal on the word "jeans". It's not there in the Throwback Mix

Yeah, MJ had the uncanny ability of making even mediocre songs sound so good. “Whatzupwitu” is horrible, but damn when MJ starts ad-libbing I start floating.

Obviously a high-pass filter on a vocal isn't weird in itself, but I understand the sentiment when it comes to HT just because it seems so... random.

Like, it's applied for that one line but suddenly returns back to normal for the word "jeans". I've always thought it sounded sloppy, and even though it was most definitely intentional, I can understand why you'd think it sounded like a mistake

I think MJ choosing Brad Buxer as his primary collaborator throughout the 2000s didn’t help much as far as artistic evolution goes. I adore Buxer and mean no disrespect, but he has a very specific sound/aesthetic that started to feel dated by the mid-decade. I think Neff-U, Akon, RedOne, and will.i.am were the people MJ should’ve spent more time with. “Hold My Hand,” for example, isn’t a groundbreaking song, but it was undeniably modern and showed that MJ could keep up.

That said, I think it’d highly unlikely that the final versions would resemble the demos. MJ likely would’ve done what he did with “Jam” and “Dangerous,” and have a producer give them a modern facelift. Alas.
