The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

It would be nice to hear his version but I agree that it doesn’t sound strong enough if we’re basing it off both his vocals and Siedahs revamped version
I think it would've been strong enough to make the album. MJ's vocals on that track would just bring out the magic. It certainly could've replaced JGF. I just don't think it was edgy enough for BAD, which is why Temperton just didn't stand a chance on this album.

I think you're right mate, I think part of the reason it didn't make the record was it wasn't edgy enough. Same for other songs that didn't make the cut

I'd love to hear Mike's version of Groove Of Midnight. Mike's vocals and the feel of the snippet always remind me of Fly Away for some reason

The only songs that we’ve heard from the sessions that could’ve booted JGF imo are Cheater and Come Together. Both could’ve featured Stevie

I would’ve preferred "La Isla Bonita" or "Cheater" instead of JGF.

I know, Just Good Friends is the weakest link on Bad and they could have finished one of the other songs/ideas they left off instead, that could have been just as strong. I don’t know, something we haven’t heard yet that the Estate seems to be gatekeeping for whatever reason…

Judging by Bill's sessions calendar notes, Streetwalker, TYLA, PoF & CK were seriously considered for the album, since 'official' recording session begun in January 1987.

I wonder which of them were dropped in favour of MITM and JGF.
Is all of Bill's session from Hayvenhurst? I would say they were considered but cut during pre-production with the exception of SW since it actually made an early track list at one point

What songs/ideas did Kevin Briggs (She'kspere) offer for Invincible? Did Michael record anything?

Never heard about Kevin submitting anything
Riley and Rodney Jerkins produced the bulk of the album, the studio sources said. Other producers who have been connected with the project include R. Kelly, Swizz Beatz, former Jodeci member DeVante DeGrate, David Foster, Kevin "Shek'spere" Briggs and the Neptunes, though it is not known if their work will appear on the finished LP.

"The first single is a collaboration with Method Man, those sources said."

Sounds like Unbreakable was supposed to feature a different rapper at one point.

I know R Kelly was working on some stuff, DeVante said he was the original producer for the album and of course we know Neptunes

Not exactly leaks of songs but here's some interesting stuff:

Amazing documentary. You don't always see people talk about Michael's collaborators other than Quincy, Bruce Swedien and Rod Temperton; Brad Buxer deserves just as much recognition as them. I wish there was more content out there that delves into the late 90's sessions, this and jackson.ch videos from a couple of years back are an absolute godsend for that.

My biggest dream is for someone to create a documentary based on the musical material made during his last years, with producers like Prince or Buxer involved. I think the only ones who can come close to doing that is Damien and Marcos Cabota

If they could get Will.I.Am and RedOne in there, that'd be peak. Even if they just get the rest of the footage from that 2006 interview, that's enough for me.

Add in that 2007 Ebony Photoshoot footage too.

Love this thank you for sharing!

I love Beautiful Girl, there's something about that song that is just magical, those harmonies are divine. I really wish Michael finished that one

Honestly one of his finest songs in my opinion. So simple, so effective, so stunning. Even in its unfinished state I find it damn near perfect.

I find it really cool and funny that, when you listen to the Dangerous demos, Mike was essentially working on two albums at once. He surrounded himself with so many brilliant and varied musicians and writers, and he was one himself, of course, so it's no surprise that he stayed on top for so long. Never afraid to make the next step, never afraid to bring someone new into the fold.

Whenever I speak to someone who isn't fully sure of The King, I like to show them his unreleased stuff. That's where you can really hear him experimenting and pushing boundaries. I mentioned this a couple of years back but I am far more invested in all the ongoing stuff surrounding his unreleased catalogue these days.

Hope everyone is well!

Yeah, I only over the past two years or so started paying more attention to this song and I do now think it's one of his best. The instrumental is lovely.
