The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

imagine not to rely on the stupid estate doing useless things or them sitting around and doing nothing.

this is like christmas as a child. wow.

MJ preferred the magic angle so his sketches being exposed like this in a way does take away from it. Or at least changes the argument in comparison to just, listening to Dangerous. Or even comparing Off The Wall Demoes.

There’s no before and after with these sketches but there’s no smash hit rollout with it, which was half the appeal of an MJ record. The closest approximation was the posthumous attempts which mostly, modified em, a sidegrade, not a true upgrade.

Yeah, I tend to call these sorts of demoes “sketches” for that reason.
These are sketches most def. The only song that has the potential to see a release is Neverland Landing and even that's pushing it because I don't see it making a way onto a future release due to the lyrical content but it's the most complete one. Everything else is mumbles. The real bread and butter is in that 1980-1986 pocket.

Bro it's 3 AM and I just found out about all these leaks. What the **** is going on?

It would fit the biopic as an underlying theme to the scenes shot at Neverland, and thus a release on the soundtrack album wouldn't be out of place.

That'll be the closest thing to a release. I'm sure the estate is browsing and hearing all this material but I hope they're doing something.

"Rocker" sounds so good man, I hope Michael kept working on it throughout the years or else it'd be a massive waste if it was sent straight to the vault, the track has so much potential. On another note I wonder how "Rock Tonight" could sound like, that song used to be mistaken with "Rocker" at one point.

What in the name? More things last night?

Slow down for those of us still getting our heads around yesterday's songs! (I'm joking, leak them all)

It's incredible what we've gotten over the past few months, considering there were periods of years where he had nothing.

I wake up and there's now EIGHT more songs showing up, what a day fellas... Still listening to everything lol. Gotta say that "Bottom Of My Heart" sounds so peak, a Brad Buxer production hardly ever misses.
For those that have missed it, could you please list the names of the 8 tracks? Thankyou my fellow moonwalker.

From where exactly are the Buxer/Prince files sourced from? It's odd, the most complete 2008 mix of HT doesn't seem to be out in the wild at all.
Fuzball, you seem to be clued up on the most recent leaks, have you got a link to all of them? Due to time difference in UK i was asleep when all this was going down. A decent MJ leak could make my entire year.

https://www.youtube.com/@MJJacksonUnreleased This channel uploaded everything. + there's other multitrack snippets from "Xscape" and "Loving You" that leaked, a snippet of "Homeless Bound", a different version of "Don't Be Messing 'Round" and the writer's demo of "Threatened".

Oh and there's another snippet of "Rocker" that went unnoticed

can someone please explain to me:

- why are all those "songs" (aka demos, instrumentals) getting leaked now? what happened behind the scenes?? will we ever get an answer on that? is there a crazy war going on in the super collectors circle?

- can AI really make THIS from the MJ version????

This sounds so authentic, like a realy Disney song incl. real choir... unbelievable

There're posted here in this thread. You have to look up pages 700ff.

I get what you’re saying, and I don’t disagree that a lot of MJ’s demos are impressive on their own. My point isn’t that the demos lack genius. It’s that the kind of genius Michael had often wasn’t fully apparent at the demo stage. Take Beat It with just the harmonies. Yes, that already shows melody, structure, and instinct. But what made Beat It Beat It wasn’t just that skeleton. It was the refinement, the restraint, the production decisions, the sonic identity that came later.

If the demo were the finished statement, the song wouldn’t be what it became. The genius wasn’t just in the idea, it was in what he chose to add, what he chose to remove, and when he knew it was done. So I’m not saying “MJ demos aren’t genius.” I’m saying his greatest genius often reveals itself through process, not at the first sketch. And of course, this could be said about any artist, really, but I think this is especially true for MJ because of his unorthodox way of creating music. this is especially important when people judge unreleased or unfinished material as if it represents what he would’ve put out. That’s the distinction I’m trying to make.
I definitely see what you're saying, and indeed, I think it has a lot to do with how he composed and thus the sound/production of his demos.

I can play a Prince demo, where it's just his voice and a guitar, and think "man, this is genius!" But that has a lot to do with the fact that the guitar is a very organic, beautiful-on-its-own instrument, and that Prince is a fantastic rhythm player. As a result, the demo already sounds amazing in its stripped down form. Similarly, if you've got a tight, well-oiled machine of a band, a first stab at a demo will often sound great already (sometimes even better than the tinkered-with final product).

But MJ's demos tend to feature very rudimentary and sequenced electronic accompaniment - a basic drum machine track, a stock, cheap-sounding synth patch, etc. Listening to his demos thus is much more of an exercise in imagining what it could sound like, rather than an amazing listening experience on its own. While I do think there's some truth to the notion that (for most of his career) he only really fleshed out the ideas he felt had most potential (and there is thus not a massive pool of incredible, Billie Jean-level undeveloped ideas), I think his demos - as ideas for compositions - are generally totally fine. I think the genius jumps out most in the vocal harmonies, the catchiness of some of the melodies/hooks, and (for the more uptempo tracks) their grooves.

From the bottom of my heart thankyou.

There's something in Neverland Landing. I'm not normally the biggest of fan for this type of song but I absolutely ADORE it.

"Feel like a millionaire, not penniless" that whole section, the delivery.. absolutely jammed into my head right now.

The answer is here (from page 625) - though I am not aware of a war:

Regarding the recent snippet rampage, it's a mixture of these four facts:
1) A combined effort of ripping off MJ's famous B-team: Brad Buxer, Michael Prince & Brad Sundberg. Basically every song Brad Sundberg has ever played - including "VIP ticket" material - has been secretly recorded with professional devices. Sometimes people even picked off the cables that were connecting the speakers for the audience.

2) There's a collector who has been streaming entire multi-tracks. People were - of course - recording them. Leaks have happened from that. The guy also played some songs. That material is being circulated.

3) There's another collector who did phone calls in which he played stuff. And - of course - people were recording that, too.

4) A combined effort of people that obtained material from #1 - 3, trying to obtain more from other individuals, preferably those who are not aware of #1 -3.

+ 5) people secretly recording in the US Copyright Office

AI can easily do all kinds of things these days. Just go to youTube and look for tutorials in your language (German) that explain how to create songs with Suno AI. That's all an "AI slop merchant" does.

I don't touch AI. It's a waste of time IMO. It's never real.

I'm still thinking about how the new Days in Gloucestershire leak could be the final 2008 mix, considering there are clearly mumbled lyrics in some parts.

Yeah there's no way this version of "Days In Gloucestershire" would've been final since Michael still planned on working on the song while he was in London.

And also, I remember hearing in an interview that when Michael added something to a song he would never go back on it, if a new sound was added it always would've remained in the song so it's pretty out of ordinary that the whistle was outright removed in this "newer" version. This alone leads me to believe that it's an older version rather than a rework.
