The Official 'Michael' Bio-Pic Thread

Watching the small clips of Beat It from the film, I wonder if that's a rehearsal than the short film.

Like they show Mike rehearsing for the short film and talking to the dancers. That would explain why he's doing different moves, why it looks very bright and why he's wearing the piano shirt?

Just a theory I guess. The Beat It stuff really has me puzzled
 
The only thing that really cuts me to my bones is why was they not celebrating this man when he was alive! Why is everybody only just realising that this beautiful human being was so different and only really trusted children because he thought they would never let him down, unfortunatly they did!
I hope this film really does just show this side of Michael only his closest ever saw.

I don't care if the movie makes money or not. I'm not a shareholder in Lionsgate. Why would it bother me? Such a strange position people have on this.

Do you guys cheer when Toyota announce how many cars they sold? Do you spend weeks speculating whether Adidas will break a sales record for shoes?

But it's not. Worshipping sales figures is just juvenile. It's not even as if it's measuring the right thing - the success of a movie is surely based on how many people saw it, not how many dollars it took? That's a worthless comparison - inflation ensures that something costing $10 in 2018 will cost at least $13 today. Movie studios just like to use $ because then they can always claim "most successful movie ever" even when it's not true.

If you're not an actor, not a director, not a producer, not in casting or set design or cinematography or sound editing or visual effects, then how much a movie makes has absolutely nothing to do with you.

The only thing worth discussing is what's actually in the movie, and whether it's any good.

Richard, you do absolutely nothing on this forum but join every single thread and post the most contrary insufferable whingey "I don't like this, I don't understand why people like that" nonsense constantly showing you have a serious inability to understand that other people may have a different opinion to you. If you fail to understand why the box office of a film with a questionable production period is of any importance then I think you should shy away from that topic if you can't understand or follow it and leave it to people who wish to, and are able to discuss it.

I want this movie to do well and I’m curious about box office figures for one reason - Michael. He deserves this movie to be successful.

Surely as a fan you want this to be a big success as it reflects on MJ, even though he’s not here it would mean a lot to him.

If it bombs , the media will have a field day, nobody is interested in Jackson anymore, he’s lost his fans and is a thing of the past. Nobody gives a **** etc.

So could we say that production of this movie is a total mess? Or does it work this way only with MJ?

Reshoots are normal - the accompanying story that the film has had to be seriously rewritten because of what was allegedly a mental oversight changes this slightly and has to be taken into consideration here.

And yes, films like Multiverse of Madness went through serious reshoots and rewrites and was not what the original film set out to be and doesn't have the greatest of reactions critically even if it made a load. But it's one of my favourite films of the MCU, so there's that. Box office, reshoots etc mean f*ck all if you enjoy a film at the end of the day. Eternals is my favourite MCU film. That made €89.

Discussion about the production, box office and critical reception is completely separate to enjoying the film for me, FYI. At the end of the day, I just want to like the film - the same as any other film. I'd like to see the film do well for the man himself, but selfishly I'd prefer a film that I truly enjoy - which is what I wanted from Xscape but while it did well, I hated it.

Huh? "Deserves"? Wrong choice of words. It's just Lionsgate trying to make money from Michael's name. It's a business product. It has absolutely nothing to do with MJ.

And - again - I'm not in MJs entourage or his family. I don't gain anything from this, just like I don't gain if people stream Thriller. I have no interest and no reason to care. It doesn't reflect on me or contribute to my happiness.

It's just business. Somebody else's business.

Graham went on this venture to make the film before Lionsgate was involved. He first got the rights from the Estate before anything.. Yes it's a business venture, but the people behind the film are people who have love for Michael.

There is no question that Michael always wanted anything his name is attached to in a positive way to be huge. The man wanted everything grand, big, and he cared very much about numbers. He literally manifested "Best selling album of all time". While this is not his body of work, it will be the product that brings a huge amount of attention to his body of work... Also, this films success will affect the way people view Michael Jackson. If you've been around for long, and have dealt with the BS around how MJ is attacked, or have any empathy as to what he went through, what legacy he wanted to leave behind, what his family goes through... The success of a positive MJ biopic should matter to you. - If not, that's on you. For most here, it is very important.


BTW, Michael did not disapprove of the American Dream, he had to approve of various things for the film to be made. Was he happy with every decision, that is another topic.

Regardless, to those who find Michaels legacy important.. This films success is important. If you have the opinion that it does not impact Michael Jackson's legacy, than the legacy you hold within yourself is what matters to you. Many of us care what it matters to the world. He fought his whole life, and with his life to build something that has been continuously attacked, belittled, minimized, and tarnished. For the love of Michael and what was important to him - its important to us.
