The Official 'Michael' Bio-Pic Thread

Do you have more info you can share about what they are discussing for part II? Or what will they put into the story, when do they plan to start working on it for real. Anything?
I really don't know what they're plans are for part 2 yet. I have a general idea but they'll likely be pivoting from the original story that was planned to be told before it was split into two parts.

They are in pre production all over again, so everything I know is subject to change.

Just watched #MICHAEL this afternoon, and it’s EASILY and by far the most entertaining, accessible, crowd pleasing biopic I’ve ever seen.#AntoineFuqua crafted this music biopic as the ultimate communal cinematic experience, where #JaafarJackson soars achieving what I thought to be impossible task of reviving #MichaelJackson in front of our eyes as he disappears into the king of pop’s persona and makes us believe the megastar is once again alive & at his peak!Structurally, the film follows a very straight forward narrative, more like a TV series, less like a complex character examination. And yes, it is shamelessly a celebration of the myth of Michael Jackson, but above all, it gifts Michael & his fans with the empathy usually denied to megastars & specially denied to Michael Jackson. That in itself is the most rebellious act this film could have delivered, in a day and age when it became socially acceptable to condemn and to cancel at any cost while the “walk in my shoes” motto is less and less appreciated & practiced. It’s also a movie about family. Not the idealistic one Hollywood often promotes. The real family, with all its shades, where love, hate, exploitation, manipulation, indifference, partnership, brotherhood, union and loneliness are all present, and where #ColmanDomingo shines as business obsessed, abusive & oppressive father figure #JoeJackson, while #NiaLong as the classic abnegated matriarch #KatherineJackson plays by the rules and fails to protect her sons from her husband & suffers in silence for that, trying to do her best when his husband is not looking. But as the Jackson’s mother says to Michael “don’t let anyone prevent you from shining your light, not even yourself” and the movie takes that lesson close to heart, using #Michael’s unmatched musical & dancing talent to shine brighter than the darkness, solitude & disgrace of his real, private life. And there is when #MICHAEL soars, delivering unrivalled entertainment with competent editing & montage of some of the most iconic moments of Michael’s career. But it all only works so powerfully because #JaafarJackson gives his all & transfigured into his uncle, with such a precise voice & movement work that it seems absurd to think he is not a seasoned actor. I don’t even know if any seasoned actor would be able to achieve what he has.Watching #Michael in a Dolby cinema made the loud, larger than life musical scenes feel epic, powerful and exhilarating. It’s impossible to prevent your feet & arms from reacting instinctively to the iconic beats. And that’s the biggest triumph of the film, the communal experience of a whole auditorium overwhelmed by the same moments in the same way.The final musical act which also culminates into a turning point we long awaited for as the set up finally pays off, literally makes you leave the theatre in the mood for fun & for shining your own light, despite anything negative going on in your life, like Michael in this film is portrayed doing over and over again. Because music and dance can heal the world and bring people together. Words from Michael himself.#Michael does not try to reinvent the wheel, nor does it try to subvert what the collective consciousness knows - or believes it does - about Michael and his family. There is no self indulgence here. It’s clearly a film carefully designed for audiences to enjoy and for fans to love and feel like his idol was respected, celebrated and treated by the filmmakers with the compassion and empathy he unfortunately rarely had while alive.Yeah, the controversies outside Michael’s already controversial family drama are nowhere to be seen. But I won’t be hypocrite here, and I have to admit that I haven’t missed them! If this was a character deep dive, yeah, I would be disappointed. But as the celebratory, entertaining experience it sells itself as, I think it succeeds as it is.#Michael is already in Cinemas, but officially opens in the US this FRI.

KING OF POP #MichaelJackson once again makes history in one of his most passionate markets overseas, as music biopic #MICHAEL grosses SPECTACULAR $2.7M in #Brazil’s #BoxOffice on THU Opening Day, (including $1.2M TUE & $651k WED previews) with 600k admissions. Not only the BIGGEST Opening Day for music biopic, 10x bigger than #BohemianRhapsody, but also beating #Oppenheimer’s $488k THU Opening Day and Oppie’s entire $2.7M 4-day opening as the BIGGEST debut Ever for any BIOPIC, in just 1 day including previews! BIGGEST Opening Day of 2026, beating even #TheSuperMarioGalaxyMovie’s Eyeing a $6M-$8M 4-day opening in #Brazil alone, one of the biggest debuts Post-Covid for Hollywood

Jason Malachi has the power to honor Michael even more than Jaafar simply by speaking out and making sure the whole world knows what the Cascios did with those fake songs. We're just sitting here waiting for your time to shine, Jason. If you care at all about Michael, you won't silently sit there and watch while the Cascios say all those disgusting things about Michael, when you know who they truly are and you can make sure the whole world knows.

Ok, so I have just finished the movie and returned from Cinema. Jaffar did amazing job - I am pretty sure anyone would be just worse. For me he was like real Michael. The scenes during performing or from the clips - I will definitely keep watching in on YouTube.

However in overall it is really flat plot. Even boring but we are talking about Michael Jackson story. Too much animals story (it looks creepy/weird), too much father issues.

Nothing about his creativity in songwriting - no process of writing for any song is showed. How could that happen? No process od even demo recording. That is real mistake here. Recoding of album Thriller is much more interesting then they showed. Throw up the mixes, early versions like Starlight or even Billie Jean creation process! What is showed for Beat it was no sufficient.
Because of it probably I really like the John Branca scenes - it brings to the movie some good vibes. Unfortunately.

In my opinion they should at least show the Wizz and how he met Quincy. It would not take much long but it looks it is needed for plot.

Furthermore to quick transition from Victory tour to Bad Tour. It missing something and I think this is We are the World night. It would be interesting to people. I understand the . montage here but they could came up with something.

They could easily short little bit the performances and find some more time for what I mentioned.

Vitiligo as is it showed is fine for me.
No ATM catalog taking over, no Paul McCartney, no Diana Ross, only one sister...

Bohemian Rhapsody was much better.

I think I am not interested now to rewatch it again at the moment however I would love to see the second part with my must have scenes: Man in the Mirror performance, Smooth Criminal, Jam Opening on DWT, Back or white, Superbowl, Lisa Marie, History songs, Invincible, 2005 Trial and This is it.

I am afraid we will not get part 2, but if we will then people will not give it a second chance.
Based on what Easte is doing and production like this or videos like Human Nature official video on YT I see that we really can not count on nothing really worthy anymore.

The opening was nuts here, I'm still thinking about it. On my way back home from the cinema I saw a bunch of people in MJ costumes on the streets, it was honestly pretty crazy to see Billie Jean MJ getting inside an Uber lol

I think he's not saying anything because he's afraid of the Cashio family.
Just give yourself a chance, fight your circumstance, rise and do it again!

I have to disagree with one thing you said and it’s just my opinion of course. I tried to watch Bohemian Rhapsody last week and had to shut it off after 30 minutes.

Don't forget this weirdly put together collection of songs from the film is out today.

It's beyond me why they couldn't have used the "newer" mixes used in the film.

i saw the vinyl and cd at a record store today

Even Michael felt superficial with how he was portrayed as this flawless, bambi-like character who only wanted to create his own songs and unite people through music. I'm not saying they should've painted him in a sinister light but many people said he shared Joe's temper, and he could be greedy and take unwarranted credits for songs even back in the earlier eras so there should've been bits showing he did have his own set of flaws like everyone else, maybe the critics wouldn't have been so eager to call this movie a complete 'whitewash'.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. A biopic has to be balanced. Even better if it shows somebody as relatable and human.

I mourn what the movie was gonna be like before the rewrite, it was gonna be so hard-hitting.
Yeah, that's what I was looking forward to. A meaty film.

Could have been a great character study of one of history’s most enigmatic and complex genius’ instead it was a highlight reel strung together with some basic drama.
Yeah, that's the conclusion I came to about a month ago.

I enjoyed seeing Michael's art on the biggest stage possible, but at times it didn't feel we the audience were given time to breathe and take in the grand scale of the achievements
What do they do, an entire full-length song? Yeah, I'm struggling to see why they would need that. Just gets in the way and slows everything down.

I feel bad for the director, a movie which builds towards the third act which must be cut.
But it didn't have to be. All you gotta say is "the estate didn't authorize this" and you can say and depict anything you want.

As a Part I, this movie works. Of course we want it to be a bit better. To show a lot more that got left out (am I crazy or they did not include the Gammy wins at all?). However, if it actually is a first part, I am satisfied with it.
We need to stop judging this "as a part I". It's a movie. We have to judge it as a movie. We have no idea what might or might not happen 2 years from now. Nothing should be excused or given a pass just because of a vague hint on Twitter.

And for the second part, they CAN'T f*** it up at all. Do what they need to do about the allegations (sign new contracts, change names, mix both cases into a single one). It NEEDS to be in the next movie. A 'Michael: Part II' without allegations is almost like an admission of guilt.
Agreed. And the funny thing is, whatever the estate has said about the allegations in the first movie will always apply to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th movies.

The only thing I really didn't like, while I was watching it was how often they portray Michael as a helpless victim.
Basically this is being used as a 2-hour promo opportunity, and clearly the PR department have decided that victim status is what they need to be doing at the moment.

Of course if they back away it would mean they can't use MJ's music which would make the biopic quite pointless lol.
Why do people keep saying this?!

Pretty Woman wasn't produced by Roy Orbison or Roxette, but it still had their music in, lol.

Went yesterday, my two accompanying ppl liked the movie. I personally would have liked a more nuanced representation and more context, especially of the family, friendships and girls that were in his life, even though mj was lonely, and the contribution of many ppl, including Joe and the brothers, to his career.
But I think all the things that were left out and the others overly emphasized cannot be attributed to incompetence at this budget , but a conscious choice. My husband appreciated that the film has a clear story rather than a mere chronology of events. When thinking about which aspects were repeatedly covered it was Joe's abuse and exploitation, Katherine's, Bill's emotional support, friendship with pets, and music industry/ lawyers saying for him what he didn't dare to. And finally his care for sick kids giving him the drive to pull things through. Friends, fun and creative partnership with siblings, and collaborators were left out to keep this narrative very straight.

They chose to give people one clear message that the audience can feel, rather than loads of context that's hardly digestible in this sort time. This movie is a unique opportunity for many people giving you just two hours of their time. When they are emotionally engaged, they can look up more. I am sure Michael would have made that same choice (on this general direction I mean)

Oh, and I love the studio scenes where we get mjs vocal tracks solo without the music!

Hilariously the rags have pushed and pushed Dan Reed crying like the little egg he is, and now they're trotting the Cascios back out.

The sheer desperation to stop this film is honestly absolutely bizarre.
