I'm sorry quite a few of you in here didn't enjoy it but I just came from seeing it and I had a freaking blast! Jafaar was phenomenal. He really got MJ's voice, mannerisms and dancing (although not perfect but no one can do it like Mike) down.

I did think the pacing was a bit rushed and some things could have been delved into more but if you just take it for what it was, it's very enjoyable overall. I actually think the movie did a good job of showing the "human" side of Michael.

My theater was so fun! They sang along, danced and clapped.

I saw so many people dressed up as MJ.

I had a wonderful time. I'm seeing it again this weekend.

I love you Michael!

super happy it's finally out, it feels like we were waiting forever! however am i the only one a little confused as to why they acted like off the wall was his first ever solo release when he had 4 solo albums before that?

i get that it was his first huge solo success but the other albums shaped him into the incredible artist he became and the lack of control with those he had probably made him realise what he did and didn't like and that he was ready to do things his way. it just feels weird to me that they literally acted like they never existed

I think the movie was great when you accept it for what it was. I think it's huge that they included Bill bray and showed their relationship from the time Michael was a child because it adds context to his life and it mirrors how he befriended kids like Macaulay Culkin (who also had an abusive dad) and brett barnes and has life long friendships with them until he died. People need to see that. Most people didn't even know who Bill was before this movie. I heard someone in the theater remark that Bill always protected him and wouldn't let anything happen to him.

It's also great how they humanized Michael.

Thats what's most important. To finally see him portrayed as who he was and not some caricature was really therapeutic for me because I've spent more than half my life trying get people to see the real him and not the fictional version of him the media created.

And for that reason alone this movie will always be valuable.

It's the red carpet for "Michael 2" and the press are watching people walk the red carpet, and Jordan Chandler walks it - the press are absolutely stunned..

Basically ended up with Jordan coming forward with the second film for the true story to finally be told.

If Jordan were to show up, The press would probably think he was jaafar and it would go right over their heads.
 
Just got home from this, and I have thoughts.

Is it a good movie? Not particularly. The production values are unbelievable, but the script is very mediocre. Part of that is due to the inevitability of trying to make a two hour movie about an artist who not only was famous since he was 10 (whereas most other biopics center on artists who hit the big time in their 20s, which makes the whole “let’s jump over their youth” angle far more justifiable), but who also has more iconic moments in his first two decades alive than most other artists can accumulate over their entire careers. It’s just not possible to fully tell the story.

But even then, it was still a below par script. Too many lines about MJ being “special” and “different from anybody else,” the brothers having maybe three lines between the five of them, strange chronological discrepancies, and a depiction of MJ that made him feel like a caricature of himself. The ending is also RIDICULOUSLY anti-climactic. I don’t think it was as bad as the critics say, but it absolutely wasn’t a strong screenplay.

Is it a good experience? Good god, yes.

I saw it in a packed theater ranging from 10-12 year olds in MJ shirts to elderly men and women, and everyone was screaming and clapping like it was an Avengers movie. There was a moment where half the crowd genuinely gasped, and you could feel the air suck out of the room. As someone who wasn’t able to witness MJ at his peak, the performance and short film recreations took my breath away—even after seeing the real deal countless times on my phone and TV, it felt like watching it for the first time. The three people I went with, all of whom are very casual MJ fans, all absolutely loved it.

Jafaar was incredible—at multiple points in the final third of the movie, I had to remind myself I wasn’t actually watching MJ. Coleman Domingo is positively frightening. Young Michael is the best child actor I’ve seen in quite a while. The stages, the sets, the costumes, the vibes—it was just unbelievable. I was grinning the whole time. (And for those curious: Branca is in 3-4 scenes, and his inclusion was tasteful and made sense.)

And you know what? Walking in, I was feeling exhausted of all the negativity, the new allegations, the online hate train that kicks in with every new release. Walking out, I was smiling and looking forward to listening to his songs again. And for me, that’s all that matters. Of course I wish the script was better, but at the end of the day, I had a damn wonderful time.

6.5/10 movie. 10/10 experience.

Do we know which scenes are from the reshoots? To me it feels like they didn't really replace the third act with anything.

Its impossible for me to tell because.... theres not much substance to the plot really.

The amount of "What If?"s that will hang over this film will be forever huge. More stuff will come out over the next few weeks and hopefully an original screenplay or script will leak.
 
Saw it yesterday. Was expecting it to be bad and thought it was. They skipped over so much. Storyline was very thin.
Mention vitiligo once, mention painkillers once. I don't know, would've liked to have them go into depth a lot more. Everyone knows the artist Michael, but what drove him to want to be the greatest (yeah, Joe with the belt, but come on).
And annoying that they keep showing the Peter Pan/Neverland book, but you never get to see Neverland.
Could've used more songs from Bad and Off The Wall.
They making him say he want to shine his light on the world. Where was Man In The Mirror?
Another Part of Me, iconic concert video, why go and use "Bad" at the end.

Jafaar did great, but thought it was annoying he looked like MJ more in some parts of the movie than others (think he looked almost spot on around the Pepsi incident).

Saw MJ in concert twice (Bad & History). Saw Cirque 3 times (2x Las Vegas, Immortal World Tour Cologne). Saw the MJ Musical in New York. And I liked all of those much better than this movie.

It did humanize him. You ought to watch the movie before making a statement like this.

So.. watched the Biopic last night and I have some mixed feelings about it! I went in with huge expectations given the hype that the movie has generated, so I was braced for absolute perfection. Sadly, it fell quite short of those expectations.

Positives: It’s an absolute celebration and that appears to be the main objective. I was bursting with pride and the embarrassment that is often affiliated with being an MJ fan right now slowly subsided when sitting in a sold out auditorium. I can’t tell you how proud I was to be an MJ fan in that moment!

The movie is extremely fast paced so the 2hours literally fly past. It travels at break neck speed leaving you trying to catch your breath.

Jaffar does a stellar job at portraying Michael without it looking/feeling corny. I bought into the believability that he was Michael very quickly!

Domingo similarly does an incredible job at portraying Joe and allows you to feel the threat that the Jackson family were subjected to.

The recreations of videos/performances were electrifying and gave you a sense of the buzz you’d feel at an MJ concert.

Negatives: it genuinely felt like a non stop music video where there were very little moments to let the movie breathe. I started to become quite frustrated early on that dialogue was very sporadic.

The script is lacking massively in depth! So many missed opportunities to develop character and relationship amount the family! Little to no interaction between the siblings which I think does them a massively disservice. They were like non speaking extras.

The characterisation of Michael was hugely cliched and left me cringing in some parts. While they tried to humanise him they really pandered to the Peterpan image that the public perceive him as. There was some moments of grit and determination from him but they were fleeting and somewhat displaced. It didn’t leave me feeling connected with Michael as a person.

The is definitely a biopic for the masses. It scratches the surface in every sense of the phrase. I intend on going back to see it to enjoy it for what it is, rather than expecting it to be something that it’s not. In a sense, I can understand why the critics have scored it so lowly, but it’s definitely not deserving of such a low score. It’s a 6/10 at worst (which I think is disappointing for a Michael project).
