The Official 'Michael' Bio-Pic Thread

Many non-fans I spoke to who watched the film said they wanted to see more of Michael's creativity, for example, how exactly he wrote the song or how he had control of the recording studio, and that all of that was missing.

Completely overlooked that you said this way before me, haha. Yes, definitely enjoy the decision.
Haha, no worries at all. I actually see it as a nice confirmation that we picked up on the same detail. Always cool when someone else catches and appreciates those little details too.

Hey @Arklove , what did you think of the biopic?
Hey girl! I've seen it twice now and I thought it was phenomenal! Blown away by Jaafar, his mannerisms and everything else were spot on. I thought the plot was a little weak and I wish they would have elaborated on a lot of moments but otherwise I thought it was fantastic and I really enjoyed it. How about you?

Honestly the mannerisms and even the wee laugh...just spot on. At times you'd certainly think it was Michael. I get you about the plot, it definitely was a bit lack-luster. But to see the story on the big screen in high defo was amazing. I felt so emosh watching.

Ps... Jaafar as mj...hello 😉 lol

That's for sure 🥵

@Themidwestcowboy great review I completely agree

I think they did a good job humanising Michael, given the extensive rewrites and thin plot.

Seeing him beaten by Joseph so brutally and hearing Michael crying during and afterward, got a reaction from everyone in my viewing on Friday. That along with his little hug he gave Berry Gordy.

A small moment that I was surprised caught a few people emotionally, was when Michael brought the game of Twister home and all the brothers were too busy.

Initially I think the audience thought it was meant to be funny but the micro expression from Jaafar was great before he said "you guys are no fun anymore" behind a little false smile. You could feel his loneliness. A woman sat behind my girlfriend audibly said "aww poor guy"

The movie bypassed too many details to me and that 4 year jump was wild.
Luckily Taj Jacksons 11 part series wont skip the details and he also is applying the Michael Jacksons perfection only before releasing anything  I thought you of all people would take that to heart and feel better when you bitch about the Michael movie 🙏 🫶

Have I missed something. Why is the movie only screening until 30th April in UK cinemas? I tried to book next week with some friends but my local cinema (Odeon) says the last day to book in the 30th April???

Let's block you.

Let's block you.
Michael Jackson would have blocked you or banned you from being a fan he known about your despicable treatment of Taj. You should be ashamed of yourself, you are an embarrassment to the fan community and going directly against Michael Jacksons values.

I´d take a block standing up to a bully like you as a feather in the hat. some body has to call you out on your BS!

Usually the cinemas show a schedule for the next weekend on Wednesday or even Thursday. Especially when there are 2 big movies at the same time (The Devil Wears Prada 2). The next weekend is crucial to understand which box office will be achieved at the end. If Michael drops less than 45-50% it'll almost definitely get 1 billion.

Anyway if there is a part 2 and Paris is against this Project: are they even allowed to portray her without her agreement? If not maybe they will end before her birth? Not talking about his kids or only Prince and Blanket would be impossible.

Anyone?

It's crazy how much they filmed and how much of the film they've cut out.

I'll be honest that picture of Jaafar in the Green shirt at Neverland isn't the best, I don't think he looks much like Mike there

I wondered about that, too! Maybe they hope to convince her with part one, to be able to ortray Paris. Wonder if she cares about the film's success at all.

I also wondered what her criticism of the script could refer to and what it even means, when the current movie is about the time before her birth. If course she is an insider, but not a first hand witness.

Paris is absolutely within her rights not to want to be a part of this, especially after how hollow the first movie was. Yet the actors keep promoting this film as a behind the scenes look of the real Michael Jackson. It fascinates me that some real interviews with MJ give us far more insight than all the dramatic sequences in this movie.

I don’t see why they can’t reuse and recontextualise the cut scenes, like the raid and strip search, to a more generalised allegation rather than the specifics of the Chandler case. Hopefully they can figure out how to seamlessly blend old and new footage for Part 2 in order to use everything that was cut

I said it in the other thread, but they can also take advantage of Juliano’s real-life development to portray a teenage Michael going through puberty - to me this period needs to be covered in some fashion, perhaps with flashbacks

If all the scenes involving the allegations make it into the second movie, there will be a huge tonal shift between the two. Yes, the first film ends in the late 80s, when no sexual abuse accusations had been made, but it clearly sugarcoats Michael’s life up to that point. Even his relationship with Joseph is softened.

Watching Michael talk about his father in Living with Michael makes this clear: Joseph Jackson was a monster who controlled his children in multiple ways, most of them physical. In the film, we see mostly psychological pressure and Michael’s inability to say “no,” rather than the consistent physical abuse that took place in Gary.

There were many accounts—even from Michael himself—that could have been used to recreate the environment in that house, but the film keeps it generic and forced. For example, after beating Michael, Joe calls him “big nose.” That moment feels included only so the producers can claim that abuse related to his appearance is addressed, when in reality it isn’t. We don’t feel the weight of those words on Michael’s self-image, and we’re later told he wanted to change because of Peter Pan—which may be partly true—but it also ties into body dysmorphic issues shaped by his father’s constant criticism.
