Maybe you couldn't see that you had the cross with you all along. You were scared because you had been put in this bad and frightening situation but you forgot that God was with you the whole time. When you looked up from the well, there you were with eyes unable to see the cross that you carried though it shone so bright, but you could see as yourself at the bottem of the well/grave that you were carrying it all along and just needed to remember to have faith. Perhaps.

Very interesting dream.

Absolutely, and sometimes we have to remind ourselves of that (as you did in your dream..you needed yourself to remind you that it would all be ok cause God was taking care of you even though you weren't aware of it)
