Hot topic What unreleased demos and remixes do you think will be on Thriller 40 Disc 2?

“Can’t Get Outta the Rain” was technically recorded during the Thriller era, specifically as a B-side. Here are some contemporaneous newspaper clippings where Quincy is asked about it. Obviously the base song is from 1977-1978, but it was “redone” in 1982.

I still think it’s a terrible excuse for a song and shouldn’t be included. But if disc 2 is marketed as “Thriller era rarities,” and at least one admin on this very board had no idea it existed before this week, then its inclusion makes total sense.
Right. It was NEVER intended to be on the Thriller album.

Precisely. But it was recorded as a B-side, and the second disc of T40 has been advertised as featuring “Thriller-era bonus material including previously unreleased demos” since day one. So it’s not like it’s out of the ordinary.

It's a bit confusing for me. Was the entire song "you can't win" rerecorded of just the "can't get out of the game" part?
There are 2 versions of you can't win. One is on the Wizz soundtrack and is for me the superior version (funkier) and then there is the version on the ultimate collection. From what I understand the TUC version is the one recorded in 1982?

If you listen to you can't win from the ultimate collection, you hear it's one song actualy. In the WIZ the song was used together as one.

The TUC version is You Can't Win Part1&Part2 (aka 12" Mix)

Well if hot street is being saved for a future release then surely Chicago 1945 is too
they'd want album coheision, and considering the man that owns the song doesnt want it remixed by anyone but him, i doubt it will be released in that way.

So we are in a cul-de-sac…

- Hot Street & Chicago1945 won’t be on CD2 because they’ll safe it
- Starlight won’t be on it because it’s a Demo to an album song

- CGOTR & Carousel will be on it, cause the theory says so

What will be the last 2 tracks?

Couldn’t it be considered “remixed” if Pocaro went on and added finishing touches to it? As far as cohesion goes, no posthumous MJ album has been cohesive.

the big question is regarding the remaining songs: what fits visually above "the toy"?

any guesses?

Carousel is a beautiful song, who is the other co writer. Thought sembello was the sole writer

It is one of MJ's finest ever recordings, fantastic track!

I'm in the minority here surely but the 2nd disc is shaping up to be incredible. If I see it as a a "new" album it would rank very high on my fave MJ albums list, depending on the quality and completion of "the toy" and" "what a lovely way to go".
