I don't like the outfit but I think black pants for sure would have been an improvement. I agree the vibe is OK but there's something that just doesn't quite work for me.

I wanted to post my all-time fave Michael photo which is him in this outfit but I was trying to restrain myself. I was already blowing up the thread, lol.

Remind me again why you prefer the gold leotard over the Bad outfit. Was it the gold leotard vs. the BWT silver top or was it DWT trousers vs. BWT trousers with all the bondage straps?

The gold bodysuit really really flatters his dancer's body, you can see all the dance movements, even the tiny movement of hips or abs. Don't get me talking about those abs! I will save that for a different thread. I think the gold colour suits him more than the silver. I prefer the clean belt free lines of both top and the trousers from DWT. There is a gif (can't find it now), from Human Nature, where Michael moves his hands to one side and then a tiny hip movement, the beauty of that movement cannot be seen in any other outfit.
I am not a big fan of all the belts and straps from BWT. They have their value of course, but sometimes it just feels too much. My order of preference would be DWT outfit, HWT outfit and then BWT.

Don't know if this is the one you mean but it illustrates your point perfectly and is one of my top faves so could not resist posting it. The movements here are so small and subtle and so elegant and graceful and full of so much shimmering beauty that it all could so easily get lost amongst all the bondage straps. His clarity of movement needs to be matched by an equal degree of clarity in his costume. I've said it many, many times. This is not a pop outfit, this is a dance costume. It is doing a different job compared to the bog-standard pop outfit.

Exactly so. I love the gold leotard for its own aesthetic appeal. I think it is one of the most exquisitely beautiful (dance) costumes I have ever seen. But it also does a great, practical job of flattering his bodylines and his movements.

I wasn't sure about this but have now come around. I still love the BWT outfit but DWT is better, imo. The clean, sharp outline of his trousers, unencumbered by all the bondage straps, is so effective, dramatic, beautiful and just enhances the overall look he's going for.

I do love the belts, ngl. And, actually, I do love the bondage straps along his arms. They look fabulous. The straps on his legs, they do work, imo, but I can also see the drawbacks.

This is what I'm appreciating more and more. All the straps look great (to me) but I'm glad he moved on from it. Of course, he always would have done. He was not one for repeating himself in his style. He was never gonna stand still. But the development from BWT to DWT is awesome.

Mine would be:

gold leotard DWT ❤️
DWT with the jacket (not the grey/silver one, the other one)
BWT 1987 Tokyo black top ❤️
DWT with pvc biker jacket as seen in @MacMandy90 's siggy :D
BWT 1987 silver top (both versions)
Motown 25 (I know this wasn't a tour outfit but I'm just throwing it in anyway!)

I'm not keen on the combination of gold leotard and SC jacket but this gif still illustrates Hiker's point. Here's another small, subtle movement which needs the clean lines of his DWT trousers. This move would not have nearly as much impact if it was fighting against the bondage straps. I don't mean the straps along his right leg. I mean, the big-ass ones he has. Lots of straps. It can be too much.

This move would look even better, imo, without the jacket. But it still looks awesome.

yes! That's the one :love:, I can look at that one tiny movement all day. You perfectly captured, this is a dancer's outfit, not a rock star's outfit, and I love Michael the dancer the most 🤩🤩!! I think the outfit definitely has an impact on kind of movements he performed on stage. I don't see him doing this sensitive sensual movement in either BWT or HWT costume.

I do also like the champagne - coloured BWT top. Afaik, he didn't wear it in a performance.

Um... it seems there is a misunderstanding here! 😅 While I do love the leotard, it's not actually my top fave. In fact, it was a bit of an acquired taste for me. It's really mostly Hiker's thing, not that I don't love it but it's not the same. I'm actually more of a buckle gal too! And hard agree about the Bad short film!!! 😍 🥰
