Of course, various music styles/genres can be found amongst all the songs he made. But are there ones you are missing completely or ones he should have done more of?

I wish he had done more (hard) rock songs like Morphine. I am a big rock/punk-fan, I love his voice there, all the power and raspiness is just mind-blowing. I also wish there were some really, really simple songs, where he's just accompanied by an acoustic guitar. I love acapella versions, so this surely would be ear-candy, too. And maybe some jazz?

I have thought about this several times, so I wonder what you guys think 😊.

I wish he would've released those sounds he was working on in 2006 with Will.I.am - there were some unique sounds being conceived in that studio, maybe would've been released after This is It.

oh my gosh yesssss this is gonna be long imma turn off my colors
I woulda loved to hear more hard rock (come together is also done in that style correct?) He easily had the looks to pull it off and he was just good at doing that style. I think I remember an acoustic version of A Place With No Name which I agree would be fun to hear more.
something I would die to hear is some like, southern gospel music ya know? I remember hearing the live version of Papa Was A Rolling Stone and I love how he sings it. You can hear the soul in his portion and it makes ya wanna go to church. Keep the Faith also has a gospel vibe, I would just love to hear him sing some church music like that it would be gorgeous.
I’m not really good at genre names but I would like to have seen more stuff like Butterflies and Speechless
And what genre would the song All the Lost Children be? I’d want to hear more like that.
You had said jazz and I think that would be so kool to hear from him, I love the soul that jazz has and I think he would be able to do well on something in that style.
More things like Invincible and Unbreakable, that’s got some sick background stuff going on that I like
And what genre is Blue Gangster cuz I would love to have had more in that style

sorry that was long lol
Basically more of everything is what I said, didn’t I? 😅😅😅

More duets with Akon! (Joking.)

Now the most obvious: "Orchestral ballads" (or I don't know how that should be called) such as Childhood and Seeing Voices. Or just more ballads, MJ's voice's just fantastic in ballads.
Though I would take the "more rock" suggestion form previous post too. Curious how he would have done on faster rock styles, not sure of the result though.

I would say the original version is his closest take at sounding like some kind of (electronic) tango, not a very good one, though excellent as a pop song.

I agree. He definitely should have made more rock songs. But many established rock bands probably admire him for the songs he has made.

Yeah, really hard rock would have been great 🥲. I love his voice in Morphine, Scream, Give In To Me, etc.

Maybe little off topic, because it's not a genre but the first time I heard that song I thought it would have been PERFECT for Michael 🥹:

Or also stuff like "Monkey Business" - which genre would that be? I only know the basics 😅

I'll always regret that he never did Jazz or Soul same if it's cliche 💔

I go with that. Some minimalistic, a capella or unplugged songs, but beyond love ballads, including melancholy and anger

Oh yes and that. Or both combined, minimalistic gospel songs.
Besides liking to hear this, I think it would have been good to bring focus on his vocal expression as kinda the inner core of his artistry.
Although what's really the core of it I'm not sure, his genius was probably the combination of songwriting, vocal, performance, media and all

I was listening to You Are My Life on my playlist and there is the one part in it at…..1:30 and it always, and I mean always makes me think of Carrie Underwood. It’s something that she does often and I absolutely adore hearing him do that. If would die if I could hear more of that 🫠

I thought of two genres he never really ventured into:

1. Adult Contemporary - it's a genre mix of Easy Listening and Soft Rock. Not really youth-orientated (which is what Michael's music is). I thought it would be interesting if Michael did Adult Contemporary songs. He showed hints of it in his 90s work ("You Are Not Alone", "In The Back", etc).

2. Electronic Dance - I know Electronic Dance (aka EDM) is very fast-paced and relies heavily on electronic synth sounds and voice vocoders. The remix of HIStory (Tony Moran's HIStory Lesson) demonstrates that Michael's voice can correlate with fast electronic beats and synths.

and also Tricky Stewart's remix of Slave To The Rhythm

There was The Stripped Mixes...

I agree it would have been nice to get a studio album or even a live album of this stuff.

Well, between all the B-sides for Dangerous, HIStory and The Remix Suite, there's gotta be at least 50 or 60 officially-released dance remixes.

Collaborations. More with Janet, with Prince, with Madonna, with Whitney, with George Michael

Yesssss
I woulda LOVED to see him work with Prince! Especially with guitar solos, Slash was awesome but imagine hearing a Prince guitar solo with Michael’s voice! Them two woulda sounded fabulous together 🫠🫠🫠

Sounds kinda cheap imo 🙊

I love the remix, imo it's better than the original...well maybe not better but it turns it into a song. The original HIStory doesn't really feel like a song to me because of all the quotes.

More experimential stuff. Stuff like Ethereal/Dream Pop and Alternative Rock. Collaborations with David Bowie and Kraftwerk.

MJ was 50 years old so I’m guessing he would be working on more mature music. Pop stars generally fizzle out around 40ish years old. So something different would certainly be expected since he hadn’t released anything since Invincible.

Then you'll love to read this column, about Dirty Diana:

The Number Ones: Michael Jackson’s “Dirty Diana”

Just a tiny bit from it:
'Jackson's vocal performance is just masterful -- a wounded and tremulous yelp that turns into a horrified scream. The song's chorus is really just the title repeated again and again, but Jackson wails it out like he's naming that which he fears the most. "Dirty Diana" may be, essentially, a glam metal song, but Jackson does things on it that almost no glam metal singers could do. It's the most intense vocal performance on Bad, and it's weirdly one of the most soulful, too.'

tbh Dirty Diana is not one of my fav songs but I like that description 😁

Like Madonna’s Ray Of Life album - that album mixed ethereal/ dreamy sounds with a fast-tempo, trance beat with vague nods to Alternative Rock. I’m not sure what Michael personally thought about EDM (Electronic Dance Music), though.

In my opinion, he should have done more rock song. It suits very well with his voice.
Agreed 100%. We need more angry voice ;)

My main music genre is metal and adjacent genres. I love Dirty Diana and Give Into Me (also the Black or White outro in TII), so obviously I would love to have more hardrock MJ :)
Morphine is nice, but too industrial for my taste. I prefer guitar driven, "organic" songs
