Why was "Shout" replaced on Invincible?

He never did though.

Technically, the question was "If you could only perform one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?", and he obviously never performed "You Are My Life", but you get the point. It was a song that meant a lot to him at the time of the album's release. If promo for the album wasn't squashed, he might have performed it at some point.

I think Michael sometimes gave answers with a bit of strategy in his head. He gets the question "What is your favorite song?".
He said many times before Smile by Charlie Chaplin is one of his favorites. He even covered it on HIStory. But marketing wise, it's better to name a song from his new album. Something from Invincible. He already mentioned Speechless quite a few times as a song he is really proud of. So he thinks: let's say something different this time, just to keep it interesting. Let's answer You Are My Life.
