Well, in the English language, studying means using your brain to acquire knowledge. :p It doesn't matter if you teach yourself or you learn it in an organized institution, it's still studying. :p

Yeah, .. you're right..... when I read study I right away think of university... I realized to late that it also means learning in english. :p

We learn physics, just not quantum physics. :p I'm studying thermodynamics at school right now. But I have taught myself a little bit of quantum physics. :p
