The Girl Is Mine 2008 has entered the UK chart at number 78 in its first week and is at 44 in its second week due to downloads alone.

This song received virtually no airplay in its first week of digital release, but it did start to gain ground in the second week.

I started a request thread a while ago but it wasn't very popular and it seems that not even the people here care enough to get it played, which is a shame.

REQUEST INFORMATION:

I'm going to list some information for requesting the song on UK radio stations.

Some stations have already played the single, but it has not made any more playlists (other than those listed above) as far as I know and so will not get too many spins. To increase the airplay we need to convince the stations that they should playlist the song. The only way to do that is to request, request, request.

Anybody from any country can request though, so give it a go.

If anybody wants to add more contact information to the thread I'll move it to the top when I see it.

That's actually really good for a 25-years old single with no promotions!

first of all it says entering at 78.... a single can't ever enter at number one for starters..... and second of all it will climb trust me!!

This is downloads alone, plus some download sites didnt even have it listed!!!! So it was basically iTUNES only
 
The only place that had this for downloads that i could find was iTUNES!!!! LOL

Wait for the proper single to come out, and buy that, by that time it should be available to download and buy everywhere

as tom said this isnt the proper release its just the single on its own available on a few download sites. the proper download and instore release is the 4th of feb.

Janet has had he sinlge out for a month and it even has a video, but still hasnt entered top 100 downloads yet. Just a comparison.

When this hits stores i think radio might boost up.
 
I think we all expected too much from the 1st week of sales

Anyone that thought it was gonna be in the top 10, alongsdie songs that are played on radio 1 and the major stations, songs that have videos, and songs by artists that are still active (i consider michael unactive at the moment as he isnt 'out there') and songs that have the singles in the shops too, and songs that are NEW... are dilussional
 
I agree!!

Michael has to promote this and Thriller 25, surely this must be some sort of a video to go with this release, also i see lots of promo for artists on say mtv and tmf vh1 , but as yet nothing for Michael, come on Sony dont do another Ultimate Collection on us or you definetly will not get a sniff of the new material or anything else new project wise.

I agree, but I am hopeful that it will climb over the coming weeks. It may not get top 20 but fingers crossed for top 30 at least
 
Just remember Visionary, i think (from memory) some of the singles got into the top 40, now again these got NO airplay on the major stations, they were not NEW, they were expensive, and only appealed to fans

Now TGIM08 will do better because it is KINDA new, it is cheaper AND you get TGIM Demo too all for abount £2.99 -£3.99 and its already doing well in the presales chart, and it is more appealing to everyday folk because it is 'new' to them and has Will.I.Am in

So im hopeful for top 40 atleast :)

WoW i just checked and all the songs from visionary in the Uk charted in the top 30

The highest was thriller at number 10, and these CD's (even with a video) cost about £5.99

So i mean.......i think top 20 for TGIM08

where did you get that from? Thriller was not eligible to chart. lol
billie jean was highest at 11.
but yeah, visionary did pretty well compared to this.... specially at the start

TGIM08 hasnt even had a proper release yet lol a but unfair to judge
 
Not everyone downloads you know. Its doing pretty well. It was like the 47th most downloaded thing on itunes yesterday.

Especially some of the younger generation that dont have debit cards etc

buying singles is still a big thing
 
^ I would love to download but, the downloading music from iTunes is not available in certain regions (like my area, for example)

So, him entering at 78 is not bad, especially when the some parts of the world can't download the single. I think, we just have to wait for the physical single is out, and expect more from it! :)

i agree am not download too and most of the people general... wait the release of thriller25 and tgim as single and then we will see...i believe in this song! in my opinion its much beter from you rock my world..or one more change...wait and michael himself to promote this and definetly it will hit top 10.

i may be deluded but i still think this will hit number 1..... 40 odd on i tunes with no air play and jus fans buying it... massive advertising campaign starts on feb 1st single out a few days later.... all the fans will buy the single again even if they did download it and when it gets airplay people will like it.

wow, personally i believe YRMW and OMC were far better tracks than TGIM 2008

still, i think its fantastic. the whole sound of it is like nothing else on radio. the thing is that WBSS is becoming the official single in alot of places. In Canada TGIM is on itunes, but WBSS has been the one in their countdowns. Very odd. Australia even had a change of plans and are reverting to the WBSS track as our single... So much for TGIM 08 being the worldwide single
 
You need to realise how the chart system in th UK works now.

Although many acts still debut at #1 or in the Top 10. Many spend a week or two in the bottom part of the Top 100 when only available in download form on I-Tunes.

Take Britney's latest, I can't remember the exact numbers but she went from about 78 to 37 to 9 to 2 in a matter of weeks.
 
That is true but she was getting airplay and free publicity through the media.
Mike is not really getting either in the UK at the moment.
Last week the fanbase bought the single becuase it was the first week of release and it managed to chart at 78. This week the song still isn't being played and the fanbase have already bought the single, so who exactly will be buying it this week? I won't. Therefore, I predict it will drop out of the top 100 unless WE work hard to request the track and get it played on radio. It is not happening so far, because hardly any fans seem to think there is a problem. they are happy with a no.78 entry with no further prospects. WtF?! This is Michael Jackson FFS! Why settle for a poor chart performance when we could do somethinng to get the song on the radio and into the public eye?
 
the problem is that WBSS is getting more airplay than TGIM and u cant get WBSS on itunes.. Sony was too unorganised with this. If the fans dont even know or cant find stuff on itunes how are the general public gonna?
