As per hitsdailydouble.com:

JACKSON STEPS OUT: Early reports show Sony Legacy's 25th anniversary re-release of Michael Jackson's deluxe Thriller is overperforming, with a first-week sales prognosis that could put it in the 80-90k range, which would seemingly be good enough for a Top 5 bow.

If Thriller 25 goes on to sale up to 90k the 1st week in the USA considering it's a re-release after 25 years and without any new videos or live performances, then i think that means MJ still has great sales potential with a brand new album.

If the music is hot and the brand new album leads off with a blockbuster single,i can still see MJ selling between 350-400k the 1st week in the USA and over 3 million total sales in the US. The key will be the lead single. It has to be hot and hopefully a soulful r&b style that relates to r&b and hip hop radio stations.

Right now, the "Thriller 25" album doesn't seem like a bad idea anymore...I'm really happy he proved the haters and some fans wrong. :)

Bring on the new album!

i agree this rerelease was a great idea, infact most news media who kept insulting him have been rather nice lately... even calling him by his full name rather than w........j.....

here is an indication in australia. Its been on sale on itunes for like 4 days.

Super Delux version - already at #5 on the Top Albums chart on iTunes.
Standard Delux version - #12 on the Top Albums chart
(remembering all digital and physical sales are combined into ONE total just called "Thriller" adding on to the original album tally)

Plus versions of Essential Michael Jackson are in the top albums chart at #85 and #94.

His albums are charting higher than the likes of Fergie and Chris Brown.

If he can do this with a re-release with no videos or performances, just imagine what he could do with a brand new album with a blockbuster lead single.

His sales would double what they are with Thriller 25

Michael's still hugely popular. I said this with "Invincible". Even with no promotion, that album out sold almost every top pop star out today, and it looks like that's going to happen again with an album that's been out for 25 years. When Michael releases a new album, and whichever label he's with actually gets behind it, it's going to sell 15 to 20 million +, I betcha. Just watch. Michael is still the man and he's still got massive appeal. He isn't like any music star out there, age doesn't really matter with someone like him because he truly is one of a kind.

So, for all those that think that the USA doesn't care about Michael's music anymore, this is for you!!!

It's only a matter of time untill people start wearing Thriller and Beat It jackets again

What the.. What's actually going on?! How is this even possible!?!

It IS possible! And it is happening.

And I and agree with WBSS......the new album is gonna sell between 15 and 20 mil.

why are people so surprised? Mike is the man! lol

It's only a matter of time untill people start wearing Thriller and Beat It jackets again

It wouldn't surprise me considering retro is kinda in at the moment lol

Come on.. Why surprised!? It's 25 YEARS OLD album. It is 25 YEARS OLD and even if it had 70 so called new tracks it wouldn't be new. Usually those re-releases are COMPILATIONS (like greatest hits). I wonder if anything like this ever happened before..
And, Thriller has never been advertised "retro".

I was talking about the jackets being retro not the cd lol (in response to someone saying that people are gonna start wearing them again)

I predict Thriller is gonna be the biggest selling rerelease of all time lol

Oh, ok. Of course people are wearing those jackets and gloves. They have always worn.. I don't think it matters if retro is "in"..

It's said for a long time that 80's is coming back. I just haven't seen it THAT much. So is this it now? So they needed Michael for this job? Michael Jackson = 80's

So, for all those that think that the USA doesn't care about Michael's music anymore, this is for you!!!

THANK YOU, BABY!!

These stats are PROOF that this man will ALWAYS be hot in the USA. I will never forget the stupid, ignorant and nasty comments during the trial when clowns were trying to write him off. Well what is happening here? Exactly, Mike is making it RAIN, BABY!! Make it rain, Mike! :D

Hopefully this will slow the roll on ppl underestimating Michael when he's on the J-O-B. Maybe now, instead of folks second-guessing him and/or having a million and one complaints, we can just go with the flow and let him do his thang! :D

This is more proof for me that you CAN NOT keep a good man down. And kickass music never dies or fades away. Sometimes all it needs is to be rediscovered...even if you have to pull from the current talent pool (regardless of how people itch and moan and disagree with your choices) to aid in that rediscovery. :flowers:

I'm ECSTATIC that this project stayed on track and wasn't altered or pulled. I know some folks were hoping for that from the moment this project was announced right down to Grammy night, but just look at what they would have prevented. IN-CRED-dible!

Go'on Michael! Keep doing YOUR thing! :punk:Don't listen to the poo-poo-ers.

Thanks for posting the stats, TSCM.

I went to Barnes and Noble today, and asked for the album...and low and behold, it was sold out! And I live in the US, too! :D Go Michael!

And it also proves that he needs a major record label backing him. Without the amazing promotion Sony is doing none of this would be possible.

Just imagine when we find out next week where the CD debuted at and the possibility that might be on the top of the charts!

on mjjr they say its going to be around 120.000. that means it will be top five but everyone one buys another one this week it will be number one.so everybody go buy another one for mj today.

This is amazing really.

To think after everything he's been through, not even 3 years later we are actually staring down the barrel at a potential #1 Album in the USA, that is a reissue, is staggering actually.

Makes me wonder if MJ knows how close he is to it being number one? I've heard sales are predicted at 120k and Jack Johnson is predicted at 135k, Winehouse 110k.

So 1 2 and 3 are up for grabs here. If MJ made an appearance between now and the cut off day for sales we would def see a number one. Now, who wants to email Ray ray and tell her to fix her weave and tell that skinny ass genius to walk out the d00r and start promoting.

Thanks for the stats TSCM. It's incredible really. Only Michael could make something like this happen. An album which is 25 years old, it has LESS new material on it then the Special Endition one from 2001, yet its going to come in at least in the top five and maybe even number one. Now all the fans that were moaning and whining have to eat it, lol. Michael's proving that he's just too gifted and too charasmatic to ever be ignored. When the new album drops, and it will, its going to be pandimonium and mania everywhere. People who thought Michael couldn't get a number one album in the USA again, their eating crow right about now. If Michael can get in the top five with this, he can easily get a number one with new material. No sweat at all. He did it with "Invincible" and that project was doomed by Sony from the start, but I never doubted he would be able to ahieve a number one in the US again. Everything that Michael's been through hardly matters, because there's nobody like Michael in this entire world, nobody that can do the things he can, and people, deep down, know it.
