I was just thinking.... and please before you read understand i have NO knowledge of how an album is put together, how it is done and its costs etc lol

Now Thriller 25 has already got to number 3 in the album charts in the UK, and 2 in Australia, and im sure its gonna be Top 5 everywhere.

Now this album is a re-release with a few added tracks, it has no NEW videos and there promo has been restricted to a few TV adverts and the wesbite.

So does this mean MJ/Sony are gonna make alot of money out of it because it hasnt cost alot to put together!? I mean getting in the top 5 means its sold alot of copies, and maybe 3-6 Million worldwide (just a guess)

I mean the other artists out there that are in the top 5, have all had music videos made, tours/concerts, appearances etc, which all cost money. Now MJ has has none or little of that, so it must be raking it in surely? $$

I think that there has been quite a lot of promotion for the album, considering that it is a re-release. However, because the basis of the album was already there, it wouldn't have taken much to create the remixes, and pay those involved. Unless Akon, Fergie and Will.I.Am will get a cut of the profits?

I am not sure that it would have sold 3-6 million copies yet, but that is probably a good final figure to give the album.. I would doubt that it has reached 1 million copies yet as it is only in its first week.

I take your point though that it will make Michael some money, but I don't think it is anywhere near as profitable as creating a completely new successful album.

:) Personally, I don't feel that a re-release could ever sell as much as a completely new album, even if it is Thriller, with remixes and a fancy cover.

With a new album you have Videos, Major promotion, Possible Tours and overall, it is completely new material.

With an artist such as Michael Jackson, he can sell massive numbers with a completely new album without much effort. Which is what we sort of saw with Invincible, which I believe has sold 12 million worldwide? There was no tour, close to no promotion and it still sold a tremendous amount.

I think this album, if Michael has learned his lessons from Invincible, the promotion tool of Thriller 25 paying off (which it has) and makes the right moves with his next album, we could see sales reaching that of HIStory maybe even bigger.

Very true, but also theres a great deal of effort to do a new album (years lol) and with this, it could have taken a few months in all honesty, so a quick turn around

But im sure its made him a great deal of money for very little work lol

If Mikes after money he needs to get his ass on stage! he would make a fortune!

Making this album was cheaper than most, simply because majority of the tracks were all ready done. U usually pay for studio time, equiptment, people... AHHHH so much more than I mention. But with THRILLER 25 they probably spent around 10% the amount the would a real album. So they could spend a little more on promotion, specialized C.D. cases etc.

SOMETIMES if an album does not sell well, it can be a LOSS of money. But when it sells well, than it means $$$$$$$$. NOW, since they probably spent very little MAKING the album, they have very little to lose even if it FLOPPED, but it's reaching in the top 10 everywhere. Meaning it has been selling great for an anniversary album. This means A LOT of money.. It is earning the same amount as a new album from todays artists.. (Not MJ new album standard) But it's doing well..

This is also good news for Sony and Michael in the retrospect that this money will most likely be put towards the creation of his NEW album.

Michael is getting his music to work for him, so he can bring in extra money. This means extra freedom and less limitations with his new album..

As far as it can be seen decent promotion is done for "Thriller", plus production remixes is not free; so it could not be said that the album should be somehow exceptionally profitable compared to others.

As of now, over 1 million copies already wholesold with probably another half million is being added in a week or two probably.

And yes, range 3-6 million of "T25" sales as final figure can be possible.

basically yes. thats why they are doing it. very little outgoings but alot of incoming ie money lol thats why labels put out ghts. the songs are already created so theres not the costs involved in creating a new album

Why not its all to Michaels benefit .. no over head
they are releasing x2 Invincible with OTW right now
2 for one - its raises his record sales - Invincible
fans will be subjected to OTW and OTW fans will
get a dose of Invincible .. brilliant marketing

This has nothing to do with MJ's New material
or his release of it ..

yes the things are as you say...thriller25 will be very profitable for sony and for michael too...and if it sells more than 6 million coppies which i believe it will happen is going to be huge success.

I know right !!

I would be taking a second mortgage on my house and following him around to see him live as many times as possible :punk::D

Yes, Thriller 25 is doing very well, and I'm sure it's making a lot of money for Sony.

I buy my thriller 25 cd and I listen it just one time, and I think that I will never listen it again... is just a collection... and musically have nothing new... akon and william are nothing for me. I dont need listen their voice.

^ What about?

For All Time
MJ's new vocals on WBBS w/ Akon
The demo vocals from The Girl is Mine

those are the reasons why I listen to it.

Well I think P.Y.T. remix is pretty good too. my P.Y.T. demo on ultimate collection skipped for a long time so I have not heard it in full for a long time, so in a way it's new to me too.. lol!

I think we may be missing the whole point of why Thriller was re-released. I think it was to measure the amount of popularity Mike still has after all that happened over the past few years. I think they just wanted to see how he was going to fare as far as sales were concerned. Maybe Sony wanted to test the waters to see if they should sign him again and if so, what type of contract would he be worthy of. It just so happens that Thriller was the biggest selling album of all time and it just happened to turn 25 years old this year. What an excellent measuring tool! I'm just guessing here but who knows? At the end of this year, once we get a better gage of how well Mike can sell a 25 year old best selling album of all time to a new generation (and again to some old generation fans) we will get some sort of idea how he will fare with a album of NEW material. Although, I think the world is so hungry for anything new Michael Jackson, that is why T25 is doing so well.

I agree. I think Sony are considering releasing his next album.

thriller 25 was gonna happen in one form or another regardless of what mjs situation is. its the 25th anniversary nothing more nothing less it wasnt suddenly decided that we are gonna release it to test the waters. its because its the 25 and a chance to make some money

When was THRILLER 25 first announced??

The recording Michael did was in November.. ONE in October of last year.

It appears that SONY began this Thriller 25 idea, Michael liked it and decided to make it bigger by participating and adding new things to it..

That's what I thought that's all it was anyway. :2cents:

It was first announced in November by Sony BMG France, in December, it was announced Akon, Fergie, Kanye and Will.I.Am were gonna "remix" some of the songs. The same month the album leaked. In January they planned this onslaught of tributes to the album including the Super Bowl commercial and the supposed Grammys thing that didn't happen. There was also supposed to be this big tribute at the NRJ Awards. Michael decided not to go but gave a taped thank-you message (the same message US reporters are saying that he put out just days before T25 came out here, lol). Then came the BET Honors and Mike was supposedly supposed to be honored (as it said on his site), then Michael supposedly decided not to show up there and Ne-Yo sung "Lady in My Life". Then there was the Grammy tribute and, uh, well we know what happened with that. Anything else is just speculation (the O2 Arena residence where he was supposed to sing all nine original "Thriller" tracks).

timeless Albums will always sell, but this happen to cause a major stir within Billboard and they ain't seen nothing like this since or before and everybody knows that a strong Michael Jackson Project is always good for business.
