Thriller in the US 40 million | worldwide about 20 million
Since 1984, Thriller has been known to sell about or just over 1 million each year.
That would make 25 million copies over the last 20 to 25 years.
On top of that, each time Michael would release a new album that would sell 20 million or more, Thriller sales would also go up all over the world.
Thriller sales would increase in those 1 or 2 years of the new album promotion and tour.
What you are left with is the 60million he sold at the start, 25 million over the last 20 - 25 years, and the spike in sales during a new album release.
104 minus (60million + 25million) leaves a 19 million difference.
That 19 million is moreless easily covered by the spike in sales during Bad, Dangerous, History, BOTDF, releases.
Now, when someone tries to make out that after sales of 40million (US alone) in 1984, Michael has only sold 15 million more copies of Thriller in the last over 20 years around the world, that just doesn't add up.
But there's also music politics, that tries to control the true figure being known.
