Can we get Sony to tell us the current sales-figure?

I bet MJ has alot of sales there but a majority of it being pirate copys, seeing as its the pirate copys that are widely availble in pakistan from what I know, correct me if i'm wrong
That is a downright insult to the Pakistani population. Even if there were piracy, which I doubt, there are enough people still to give Mj a high % of genuine sales.
Anyway, I don't think there is anymore Piracy than what goes on in Usa, and they still have high sales there.

nope, trust me u go to pakistan most of their stuff is still pirate, from films to what not, u can get michael jackson dvds but there not the official ones from sony

and yep u could argue the population idea but alot of its population are still living in the countryside or villages, the place to get all the dvd movies and what not are from citys like Lahore or if ur lucky u might find something in the market places

hehe I wasnt exactly joking :p

dont get me wrong, he does have a fan base there, the scandals and what not are not really relevant over there either but I'm willing to bet that alot of them probably wouldnt see much of a difference between a pirate copy of a michael jackson album or a legit one

Have you ever been to the bronx in New York. They have to film before it reaches the cinema. I say if America can still sell when there is so much black market, so can Pakistan.

big difference between the two countries because I dont think they even have anti piracy laws in pakistan and if they do they dont enforce it and if they do then the people who sell and buy dont care for it

I'm sure he still may sell legit stuff there too but compared to the dodgey goods I'd say that for every 1 legit album he sells overe there there are probably 2 more who may of had bought a cd that has various songs of his from different albums burned onto them.

u would be amazed at the number of disney movies u can find there too :p

I'm sure you are right, but the point is that the population is so large in these countries that even if 1 in every thousand buy the real stuff, he would still sell a large quantity. Consider the Chinese population. One small fraction of the population love MJ, he will sell a lot. In Russia MJ was well loved before other arist got a foothold, so there were markets opened up to MJ that other artists can only dream about. So 100 million is nothing really.

yeah your right I suppose, Asia does have one  population number and considering he was the 1st westerm artist to be truly HUGE over there he could get that number

the RIAA certified it 27x platinum in the USA which is 27.000.000 copies there
no other figure is true until proven!

 But Timmy its not. There are 195 countries. Roughly he would have sold 533k copies per country. In 20 odd years its roughly works out 27k per year per country. So its not that bad taking into consideration that US sold 50mil+ on its own! :)

I agree that the figures have to be officially updated. But my point is that even if we take the 12mil figure its supports that the 104mil is possible. Simply Thriller had to sell only 533K copies in the whole of the last 20 years per country to get the 104mil.

When we have a single country like the US selling 27mil+ (when it only needed 533K for the whole 20 years), thats phenomenal! Of course some countries will sell more (like the US) than others so it evens out.

Again regardless of what the current figure for US is, the 27mil still is waaayyyyy beyond the required average of 533K needed. Same goes with other countries like Australia where its sold 800+K its over 533K etc etc
The total is therefore likely to be higher than 104mil not lower coz sales continue to increase at different rates in different countries etc etc.

China got one billion people too.
and so does india so that is 2 billion right there without counting in any other asian country, thats like what 1/3 of the worlds population right there

Exactly. He is absolutely HUGE in these asian countries. I think they respect him as an artist more than a pop-star. These people are very creative and love the arts, esp dancing. MJ's dancing is enthrined in asian dancing at the moment. So yes, any of these countries on their own could give MJ 104 mil. They are large enough population to do it. India has about 1 billion, and china has about 2 billion. 104 wouldn't be too hard to reach in these places.:p

could u imagine how much he would sell if he focused just on those 2 places with promotion campaigns and what not, I wonder why he doesnt do it?

I think he will be aiming for the asian market ssoon. Many of them are now just discovering him through the internet and china is now an even bigger market for MJ. He already has lots of fans there. I think this could be tremendous for him.

Dear Ladies & Gents,
I am a legal assistant for an agent that has been in the Music Industry for over 30 years. He is a member of the AFM (American Federation of Musicians of the United States & Canada), we have access to Polstar, Billboard etc.

What question would you like the answer to?

Sdiedjs: is Blood on the dance floor still the biggest selling remix album?

104 wouldn't be too hard to reach in these places.:p

The USA have 250+ mio. people, but Thriller "only" sould 27 mio. there (and some of them don't live anymore)

In China 99% of music CDs are illegal copies so their music market it totally disastrous.
