TV ALERT: BET Honors; Friday, Feb 22; 8/7 PM central time

VERY TRUE!!! If it were other re-release, it would have sold @ least 70,000 albums. HOWEVER, MICHAEL SOLD 400,000 GLOBAL AND 166,000 ALBUMS IN USA ALONE. SO WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU???

FROM NOW ON, I DONT THINK ANY OF US FANS SHOUD JUDGE WHAT MICHAEL IS DOING, UNTIL HE IS DONE AND READY TO SHEAR WITH US. I KNOW SOME OF US HAVE OPINIONS BUT SERIOUSLY, SOME OF US SAID HIS ALBUM WONT SELL THAT WELL 'CAUSE HE WASNT @ THE GRAMMYS, WE'RE JUST PRIDICTING WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT REALLY IS GOING ON!!! MICHAEL HAS BEEN IN THIS BISNESS 4 OVER 40 YEARS. SO IN THE FUTURE, WE SHOULD JUST WAIT 4 THE MASTER AT WORK TO FINISH WHATEVER HE'S DOING...:)

Thank you  :flowers:

Yes it's the Thriller Tribute, and no Michael didn't show up.

Ok, I knew Michael didn't show up. But there was a tribute then, huh?

OKAAAAAAY, that girl said that Ne-yo was good, so if he sucks....that would suck...

hmmm......I dont think anyone could ever sing LIML better than MJ, so I hope I'm not biased when he performs.........

soooooo, I'm getting that MJ was not honored, but just that Ne-yo was performed ????

well, guess Ill watch (and tape!!!)

Pleeease tape it for us who can't watch it! :D

Hope it doesn't suck. I will be really mad if Ne-Yo ruins one of my fave MJ songs lol.

If the Grammy's pulled through with MJ dedication I wonder how much it would have bumped sales..

well it did well without it. But this weekend this will come on, help second week sales a bit.. :)

Who cares about The Grammy's really? It was the third lowest rated Grammy's ever and no matter how much T25 sold, it still would not have been eligible to make it onto the Billboard top 200 album charts, so it's no great loss really.

In the end, Michael made the right decision by deciding not to appear.

I've been saying the same thing Cinnamon people need to let the Grammys go, i mean I love Amy Whinehouse and she was the biggest winner at the Grammys and T25 outsold her album this past week here in the states so the Grammys don't equate in the long run period.

her Back To Black album was released way back in October 2006 :) T25 is doing more than great, but it won't reach the potential of Winehouse's 1.5 year chart-topper.

and i agree we need to let the Grammys thing go, but when you say "third lowest watched", you need to take into account that 18million people still watched it...

BET shoulda done a Grammy's and Xed the tribute. How you gonna tribute someone that doesn't bother to come. Now that's unheard of!!

They could have waited until next year for the tribute- when Mr. Jackson was available.

The thing is, THEY can do what ever they want, who are we to judge???? I mean, If MICHAEL didnt got to the Grammys or to BET, HE has A VERY GOOD REASON, Wait... HE DOESNT EVEN HAVE TO HAVE A REASON 4 WHAT HE DOES. AND IF THEY WANT TO DO A TRIBUTE TO MICHAEL, AND MIKE IS NOT EVEN THERE, I THINK THATS A HUGE RESPECT ON THEIR PART!!!:)

..sounds like they are desperate

doing what, tributing the biggest-selling album by one of the most influential black amercians? i don't understand why they would be desperate..

you'd think the Grammys would be more desperate than them, and yet look at the outcome.

think about the last time you watched an award show that gave TRIBUTE to someone ALIVE who didn't bother to show up.

tribute: something given or contributed voluntarily as due or deserved; especially : a gift or service showing respect, gratitude, or affection b: something (as material evidence or a formal attestation) that indicates the worth, virtue, or effectiveness of the one in question

-being awarded something is quite different for me- there are hundreds of awards given every year- but Tributes usually come after death-

they should not be taken lightly by Michael or BET-

tributes in no way should be thought of as posthumous - where's the logic in that? and it's not like they're going all out to dedicate a massive portion of the show - it's just one performance! it's ridiculous that even this is being shunned by fans..

no doubt that if Black Entertainment Television didn't somehow acknowledge Thriller in the midst of a re-release hype, fans would be equally cynical.

at the end of the day, it's all about marketing. Michael will be undoubtedly pleased to have a tribute made on national television for this.

I agree-

My beef is more or less with MJ and his not showing up and then subsequently with BET for looking crazy and desperate. They could have given Thriller an honorable mention without giving a "no show" a Tribute

- don't get me wrong- i'm solid in my fandom- just sick of the BS

^ i think with the Grammys, if they did go through the tribute they had planned then it would have looked silly without Michael at least in the crowds.

but with a mention and one tune covered by an avid celebrity MJ fan, i don't foresee any ridicule. i'm a Ne-Yo fan and looking forward to his performance, too.

Michael never said he was going to be ANYWHERE..

It's the award shows that keep jumping the gun and announcing things before things are finalized. I don't know why it's so hard to understand.

Michael NEXT performance could very well be his MOST important performance EVER. His first performance after the trial. He would not just throw a performance together for a tribute to thriller. He will perform when the time is right, for his NEW album.

Everyone talks about the 1995 MTV performance like it's his best performance.. WHY was it extra great? Because it was his first performance since the 1993/1994 allegations. He knew the world would be watching his every move. This means extra rehearsal, extra special, extra great.. This next one would be more important than any other performance he's done.

well I think Michael will burn a lot of bridges by consistently not showing up to awards shows. If he keeps refusing, when he actually wants to go or perform folks won't even ask him

How do we know what his reasons are for refusing? They may have been real and valid reasons...sometimes understood between all parties and sometimes not. Oh well. We didn't hear BET throwing any tantrums becuz MJ didn't show up, so obviously all is cool there....or at least they have enuf respect for him to NOT itch about it publicly. And yeah, it's probably time to let the Grammy's thing go. LOL. We can think about what it coulda woulda shoulda done for him in terms of sales, but since it's a done deal we can easily put it all in perspective and see what it didn't do to him in terms of sales. He obviously didn't suffer as a result. And we have no idea how that night would have turned out anyway. It could have been a last minute bungled appearance that COULD have cost him and brought out all the sharks. Also, I'm starting to think Michael should probably stick to those who have shown him respect in the past and who have shown to be vested in his well-being as a person and an artist. He has a history with Ebony and Jet and they came thru for him with the interview. I think it might be in his best interest, IF it was something he wanted to do, to work with the AMA's...the Grammys main competitor. Dick Clark has shown nothing but respect to Michael and his career as far as I've seen. They go way back, so to speak, like Ebony and Jet. :)

As for BET, we shall see what they do tonight. They could cut Neyo's bit to scrap the entire MJ reference, OR they could run it....OR they could edit something in. I wouldn't be upset either way becuz thus far they haven't advertised anything MJ-related in any way. So they're technically not due any criticism IMHO, if they decide to cut it. Now, I looked at that video posted in this thread and you have to wonder WHAT is all the secrecy about the Michael bits of the show. Those girls mentioned Neyo's performance but then quickly said they couldn't or wouldn't say more about it. It makes you wonder IF there was more....EVEN THO Michael didn't show up? Hmmm. I hope BET keeps the Neyo part in, at least, but I wouldn't be mad if they didn't. It should be a good show either way. It's Black History Month and seeing people of color being honored and recognized for their achievements is always refreshing. :flowers:

Furthermore, there has never been confirmation of MJ showing up for anything. We spend a lot of time with a lot of wishful thinking that in our minds, this would be the perfect event for MJ to do _________. To my knowledge, MJ has never been big on showing up for anything, and when he does, we tend to know about it well in advance. We never have to guess about it and we are seldom surprised by it. In this day and age, it would be virtually impossible for MJ to keep something like that a secret, anyway.

We can be frustrated all we want, but at the end of the day, MJ is going to do what he wants when he wants to.

Michael is simply doing what he always does before a release of an album.. He tries to make himself as mysterious as possible.. Just send out little messages to keep the talk in the air but not too much for people to get what's going on.. Gets people waiting. Gets people guessing. Get's people talking.. then BAM.. he'll come back BIG..

I know I'm not the onlyone that sees the pattern he does

(P.S. he cannot 'Not show up' to a place he was not planned to be at in the first place)

I agree...which makes it baffling why some fans complain and get so frustrated over these things. And I think he can pull off a surprise if and when it's done properly. Showing up for James Brown's BET tribute was definitely unexpected and he pulled it off.

I agree Wendy

Just a warning.. Don't expect MICHAEL to be at th BET honors.. Don't get mad at him when he does not show up.. He's not planned to be there, so don't get mad when he is not.
