Jackson Considers Selling Neverland

By JOHN ROGERS – 1 hour ago
LOS ANGELES (AP) — There could be a new owner riding the merry-go-round at Michael Jackson's fabled Neverland Ranch this summer.
A public auction of the 2,500-acre spread in central California's wine country had been scheduled for next week after Jackson went into default on the $24.5 million he owes on the property. However, the auction was postponed until May 14 by "mutual agreement" of Jackson and his creditors, said Julie Wagner of Financial Title Co. of San Francisco, the firm that filed the default papers.
"That allows us to refinance or sell the property," Jackson's attorney, L. Londell McMillan, told The Associated on Friday. He added that Jackson is looking at both options.
"We expect to have this matter resolved well before May 14," McMillan said. The extended date was first reported on Foxnews.com.
Jackson, who moved out of Neverland more than two years ago, bought the property in the bucolic rolling hills of Los Olivos, 150 miles north of Los Angeles, from real estate baron William Bone in 1988 and turned it into his personal playground. He brought in more than a dozen amusement park rides, including a merry-go-round, Ferris wheel and roller coaster and installed a zoo complete with flamingos, giraffes, elephants and orangutans.
At the height of his popularity in the late 1980s and '90s, he invited children by the thousands onto the grounds, where they would spend the day playing and feasting on cotton candy and popcorn.
Once hailed as the "king of pop," Jackson saw his financial empire begin to crumble as his record sales plummeted in recent years. His image took a further hit when he was arrested in 2003, accused of molesting a 13-year-old visitor to Neverland.
He left Neverland after a jury acquitted him of the molestation charges in 2005 and is said to be living overseas.

Notes from the mediascape: Dance with Thriller's dead

by Jesse Kohl
thriller.jpg

Sony BMG and Epic/Legacy Recordings have designed an innovative promo that lets fans of Michael Jackson's Thriller upload photos of themselves to appear as zombies within the original music video. The microsite, supported by Google ads, invites users to upload three pics of themselves at www.michaeljackson.com/mythrillervideo to get dancing with the dead.
We're not talking about just another 2-D pasted-head microsite. The Thriller promo transforms participants into something more like 3-D avatars.
The anniversary celebration's also got some other Web 2.0 and multiplatform perks tied in. Users who participate in the promo will see their videos automatically uploaded to YouTube for easy sharing on blogs and Facebook pages. There's also a feature that lets users send texts to Michael Jackson and purchase the King of Pop's tunes as ringtones for cell phones.
As one might expect, the music video has already inspired user-generated videos on YouTube - including one of prison inmates performing the dance... for more than 12 million viewers at last count.

Michael Jackson Mentionings for March 14, 2008:

"I'm turning 75, and I'll tell you this," says Quincy Jones with a warm, easy laugh. "The one great thing about getting older is that you get to see how everything turns out. It's astounding."
Things have certainly turned out well for Jones, who celebrates his diamond anniversary on Friday. His prodigious talents have left a unique and indelible impression in every field he's pursued. From his work as a bebop bandleader to his groundbreaking scores for such films as 1964's "The Pawnbroker" and 1967's "In Cold Blood," or as the phenomenally successful record producer behind Michael Jackson's "Thriller" (1982) and the guiding force behind 1985's "We Are the World," Jones has been an inspiration, a trailblazer, an educator and, above all, a singular embodiment of artistic integrity.

It was funny, actually, to hear Urban's party-starter DJ Debonair spin Brooks & Dunn's "Play Something Country" in between sets – when nary another country tune ever made its way to his turntable, trumped by the likes of Skynyrd, Mellencamp, Queen and Led Zeppelin, then spiced up with dashes of Michael Jackson, Prince and Fergie. Likewise, note the riff medley Urban broke into just after "Days Go By" – first a bit of Joe Walsh's "Life's Been Good," then "Sweet Home Alabama," "You Shook Me All Night Long," "Smoke on the Water," "Stairway to Heaven" and "Walk This Way."

Songwriter Rod Temperton first worked with Jones when he wrote "Rock With You" for Michael Jackson's Jones-produced "Off the Wall" album in 1979. Temperton has subsequently been a key part of such Jones projects as the 1982 "Thriller" album and the soundtrack to "The Color Purple" in 1985. He most recently witnessed Jones' charms and talents during a recording session for last year's "We All Love Ennio Morricone" tribute album. "Quincy wanted to record 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,'

Why didn't the writer quote the portion of the statement? It seems strange to me that he did not quote Londell here.

"We expect to have this matter resolved well before May 14," McMillan said. The extended date was first reported on Foxnews.com.

So a buyer is supposed to come out of nowheres in just two months? I doubt it.

I'll tell ya...it is in Fortress' best interest to have the property bought rather than auctioned....they will not get what the property is worth through an auction. They would rather Michael pay the debt.

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The parent company of an Oregon railroad operation that shut down a line through the Coast Range has put up $24 million to help pop singer Michael Jackson keep his Neverland Ranch.

The amount is just a little more than the estimated cost of repairs to the Central Oregon & Pacific Railroad's line between Coquille and Eugene.

The line is owned by RailAmerica, whose parent company, Fortress Investment Group, signed a "confidential" agreement that allows Jackson to retain ownership of his property.

RailAmerica has asked for state help with the Oregon line, but Gov. Ted Kulongoski has said that any public-private repair effort can come only after the route is reopened

That is just Fortress and it didn't fall through.

How do you know it didn't fall through? Londell said the agreement was confidential. What? Were you a fly on the wall?

McMillan stated it as a done deal. He originally did not give as much detail. The second time he spoke to the paper he let it be known that it was for two months. I would find it highly unlikely he would have said what he did if he didn't know for sure.

Re: Weekend News Bytes for March 14-16, 2008 (updated on post#1)

Londell never stated anything as a done deal. All he said was that Michael and Neverland are fine. Then he came back later and gave a little more information by saying that a confidential agreement had been made that would allow Michael time to refinance or sell Neverland.

He never once said that refinancing had been obtained or that the $24 mil had been paid. RF was the one who attempted to call Londell out as a liar because he has this obsesssive need to stay on top of anything that relates to Michael.

And if you look at the reporting time on this Oregon article, this news is being reported AFTER the Londell articles had already been reported. It came late today. So it has nothing to do with the Londell statements. So that is why I am asking you how do you know it fell through? It was just reported and we don't even know if Michael has even excepted the help from the rail road company. The article only tells us that the help has been offered.

Re: Weekend News Bytes for March 14-16, 2008 (updated on post#1)

Refinancing the property means to be able to buy the debt via some assistance and keep the place!!!

Re: Weekend News Bytes for March 14-16, 2008 (updated on post#1)

so what is it? either they have sorted out refinancing or they havnt.i guess the original statement was just P.R and no deal was done. took all of 3 seconds for that info to be leaked to to friedman .londell is just sating the obvious options mj has doesnt mean anything one way or the other. its hardly the time to sell such a property with the markets being as they are

he might be selling it as well ? and i dont get what "refinance the property" means in this case. could someone enlighten me plz ?

bascially means getting a new loan to pay it off. ppl refiance in order toget better deals ie a lower intrest rate. mj defaulted so he has to find a company that willgive him a loan otehrwise it goes to auction

Re: Weekend News Bytes for March 14-16, 2008 (updated on post#1)

Just a little mentioning:

This morning, on one of the local radio stations, they played Fall Out Boy's cover of "Beat It" and to me it sounded pretty good and quite faithful to the original. I was dancing and singing along to it while I was cleaning my room lol and I liked how the DJ mentioned that it was an MJ song and kept it positive. No nasty jokes or anything. :D

Re: Weekend News Bytes for March 14-16, 2008 (updated on post#1)

Thanks for the news. I think even in the original statement he or a source said it was not clear weather or not MJ would keep Neverland but they had done a deal and he didn´t give so much detail. Anyway I just have to add (again) how much I despise people like RF. I don´t get how they can live with themself. Like with Janet for example. I don´t think he ever cared about her. He is just using her somethimes to trash MJ. How can you have that as a job if you have any kind of dignity.

Fortress owns the Rail Line. Instead of using money they had to help the rail line keep running they used it to extend Michael's $24,000,000 on the ranch. The rail line is saying their need should have come first since Fortress is their parent company.

What is not said is why Fortress didn't choose to support the rail line. It is business so they must have felt it was not profitable to use the money on the rail line at this time... or at least not as profitable as extending Michael's loan.

I was not the person(s) reading more into McMillan's statement than was there.

This is why I usually don't participate in these discussions. People don't read, they don't think, and then they get insulting. What the frick was it with the fly on the wall comment? McMillan's comment lets you know it had been taken care of but not for how long until he makes a second statement. My information comes from that. I don't need to be a 'fly on the wall' to read.

Fortress is the parent company of the rail line. The rail line wanted the $24M and didn't get it. They feel miffed because they saw Fortress use $24M to 'help' Michael. I don't understand how in heavens name people here translate that into a deal falling through for Michael. People here just picked up Cherubim's incorrect interpretation and ran with it without reading the article.

*runs out of thread screaming*

I still have never heard any of the new songs from Thriller 25 on that station. Does anyone know what is up with that. The woman MC on that station (Andrea Williams I think) did give a heads up to Thriller 25 and the aniversary but I have never heard it played. The comment came after I called her and left a message the evening before about Thriller 25 having sold out in our area and asking for them to play it. I have no idea if that is why they mentioned it but regardless as far as I know they didn't play my request and they didn't reply to my call.

I suppose if the $24 mill was paid back they could use it for the railway but we have no idea if they had ever planned to put money into it in the first place. That is just the railway's take on it. Fortress may want to get rid of the railway because it is a bad investment for them.

Apparently it has even less to do with it than the original article implies (and that wasn't much in the first place).

CORP puts up $24 million to save Neverland

Font Size:
From Staff and AP reports | Saturday, March 15, 2008 | No comments posted.

The parent company of an Oregon railroad operation that shut down the rail line from Eugene to Coquille has paid $24 million to help pop singer Michael Jackson keep his Neverland Ranch, The Associated Press reported Friday.

That’s $1 million more than the estimated cost of repairs to the Central Oregon & Pacific Railroad’s line — and $19 million more than the company has offered to pay to fix it.

The rail line is owned by RailAmerica, whose parent company, Fortress Investment Group LLC, signed a “confidential” agreement that allows Jackson to retain ownership of his property, AP reported.

Jackson had gone into default on the 2,500-acre ranch in Central California, and it was being put on the auction block until he signed the refinancing plan with Fortress.

In late September, RailAmerica closed the railroad that shuttled lumber, propane, steel and other materials on the tracks. Company officials initially blamed the decision on three unsafe tunnels. Within weeks, however, they said there wasn’t enough revenue to keep the line in good condition — and it was losing the company money annually.

By November, the company came up with a plan to fix and re-open the railroad. It asked for $4.66 million each from rail line users and public agencies in Oregon. Those payers would be CORP, the Union Pacific railroad, the Oregon Department of Transportation, the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay and the shippers.

Companies such as Southport Forest Products, American Bridge, Georgia-Pacific and Roseburg Forest Products would pay $204 more per carload with a guarantee they would send out at least 5,700 carloads annually. The company also asked the state to come up with operating money to run the railroad.

That proposal still is floating out there.

But the governor has flatly said no — unless CORP starts running trains again on the South Coast.

All the while, the Port of Coos Bay has filed an application with the U.S. Surface Transportation Board to try to force the CORP to sell.

Re: Weekend News Bytes for March 14-16, 2008 (updated on post#1)

I've finally met a Michael Jackson fan in flesh! First time in my life.

It was random. He came to my office as a client but I wasn't there. He was about to leave the office when I returned. I saw him holding a Tower Records plastic bag and spontaneously I asked him "Mate, any chance you saw Michael Jackson advertisement in Tower Records?" He stared at me for several minutes and broke into a smile. "You love Michael Jackson?"

So we sat outside the office chit chatting about Michael Jackson for an hour and a half. I let him listened to my Ipod containing unreleased songs from Michael as well as remixes from T25.

It was fun.

Now we are very good friends. Both are hardcore fans. I'm sharing all of my Michael Jackson collection with him now (since he's begging lol).

:D

We also watched a bit of History in Munich. Later was joined by a colleague of mine from Myanmar. My friend from Myanmar is also musician for a church. But anyway he told me "Entertainer like Michael Jackson only appears once in a century".

What a nice day.
