Tribute 2009 - Jermaine Jackson and World Awards Media [merged]

If this is a genuine tribute for charity then why not make it free with a lottery system for tickets as they did for the Diana concert and Live 8?
They could cover their operational costs and make money for charity through sponsorship and merchandise.
Please don't buy into the theory that by missing this concert you won't be able to pay tribute. This is not a tribute, it's simply a commercial venture. We can all pay tribute in our own ways and at free fan gatherings.
Thats it!:cheeky:

I have gone to "fan events" that cost more then this. If you can afford to go I urge you to go, if not then don't but stop bringing all the negativety.
Please stop talking so ignorante!:cheeky:

Do not call me ignorant. You have your opinion and I have mine. So don't go and don't watch it but don't tell others what they should/shouldn't do. If you feel it is a rip off then thats fine. But I don't. And I hope it is a huge success.

As for the post with the list of why you shouldn't buy tickets......when I go to the tribute site it is the exact same as it was before with Michaels picture in the same place. And I don't believe that Miichael would be upset that it isnt going to his charities, as long as money goes to charity and to people who need it thats what matters. As far as all the money not going to charity well that makes sense this won't be cheap to put on so the costs would have to be off set first.

Why are they putting tickets on sale before the line up is announced? Quite simply I believe they do not have many, if any, big names and are drip feeding 'rumours' about U2 & Madonna to the media so people buy tickets (because they know they won't once they learn who's attending). They'll then use the ticket sale numbers to tempt artists to perform. Awful chicken & egg situation which shows just what an amateur and rushed job this is.

Agreed.
I won't go to this.
IF this had been run in conjunction with the Michael Jackson estate I would make the effort. I'm sure they would have employed somebody capable of doing this show rather than allowing Jermaine to do it and making a mess of it. The only charity to be paid from this will be the "Jermaine self-preservation society".
I'm still hopeful that the MJ estate will arrange something official in the future.

Couldn't agree more. Also has the validity of Jermaine's charity been confirmed? I know there was doubt once about it. If the money does go to charity that is great and I can't criticise that part at all. I just don't think its been done in the best way, I can't imagine Michael would want it done that way. That is just my opinion though.

These prices are ridicolous!!!!!!!! i didnt know i should laugh or cry when i saw them....and where is that seat for 85 eur??? sorry..but who Jermaine thinks he is??? No ..nobody can compares to Michael. Sorry but i have a feeling this is all about fame and money. Personaly me and my all of my friends wont attend even though we live close
And i dont want to hear Michael's song from anybody else, because it would be demaged. No one can sing them better

yeah a joke, isn`t it?

i see they at least changed the webpage so it no longer just has one huge picture of jermaine

I didnt know whether to laugh or cry when i saw it.. i ended up laughing till i cried...

doesnt seem like the fitting tribute i was hoping for.. i hope theres going to be one like freddie mercury had. I'm hoping this show drops under the media radar cos its embarassing for MJ to be associated with it

I agree with you! It's ridiculous! I'm actually quite sad Michael has to be associated with this crap. I just hope people will see it for what it really is.
Anyone really think MJ would have been ok with these prices? Or the event altogether? No friggin way.

Can anyone tell me where on the site it mentions about any proceeds going to charity. I can't seem to find it anywhere?

On the bottom of the site it says this:
substantial portion of the proceeds attained by The Tribute will be donated to important charities – in keeping with Michael Jackson’s humanitarian legacy. Jermaine Jackson has announced the first three beneficiaries of The Tribute: Larry Jones’ Feed The Children (photos: Jermaine with Mr. Jones in Nairobi, Kenya), an international, nonprofit relief organization that delivers food, medicine, clothing and other necessities to individuals, children and families who lack these essentials due to famine, war, poverty, or natural disaster. The Larry King Cardiac Foundation, which provides funding for life-saving cardiac procedures for individuals who, due to limited means and lack of health insurance, would otherwise be unable to receive life-saving treatment, as well as Jermaine’s own EARTH CARE FOUNDATION whose goal is to ease, as well as hopefully eliminate, the suffering of children around the world

How weird. The site just changed. The Mission section was completely different 15 mins ago. I can see now it says about the charities. I think I'll investigate further to ascertain exactly how much is going to charity. It's the least we can do.

lol maybe they have read here about our questions about the charities so they added more info?:cheeky:

this sounds like a disaster...no ones even talking about it

actually on another board alot of people are going. I dont think it will be a disaster at all

Lisa, do you have any involvement in this project at all? I know you've been involved in charity projects for other artists previously. You seem very keen to defend and promote it (which is of course very admirable when all others are criticising it).

The Mission page has changed back AGAIN!!
When I questioned it on the forum yesterday, about 15 mins later the page changed to include a section about significant amount of proceeds going to charity. Now it's back to as it was before - with NO mention of money going to charity.
I'm seriously starting to smell a rat. Can we investigate further any way?

Now, all it says is:
MICHAEL JACKSON not only made his mark in popular music, but also inspired and helped millions of people with his dedicated passion for humanitarian causes. Throughout his life, Michael was a strong advocate for peace, tolerance and preserving our fragile Earth, supporting more than 30 different charities. He helped raise millions of dollars for worthwhile causes through his Heal The World Foundation as well as personally donating large sums of money to organizations and people in need of help. The Tribute is dedicated to Michael’s social and humanitarian engagements, his legacy and mission as well as his personal commitment to environmental causes over the course of his lifetime. Although Michael is no longer with us his outstanding musical and humanitarian legacy lives on. We are proud to pay tribute to the exceptional achievements of this supremely talented man and his groundbreaking music. The Tribute will be a special evening for his many fans to join hands and remember the legend who helped make the world a better place.

This is seriously dodgy. If there's something dodgy going on with the charity money that's effed up. I wonder why they keep changing it.

I think that's why Shawn King did no longer want to be associated with this tribute , she might have very well discovered that no money or little was going to charity after all .

Oh yeah, that would make sense. The plot thickens..

The whole time when I went it said the part of it going to charity on the bottom of the main page.

(I decided not to post this in the TMZ report thread. Hope its okay to post it here.)

TMZ has learned Michael Jackson's former manager Ron Weisner has been asked by Jermaine and Katherine Jackson to produce "Michael Jackson: The Tribute" in Vienna Austria on September 26.

Weisner tells TMZ he expects 100,000 people to attend. It will become a TV show. Weisner says he's reached out to some of the biggest stars in the world to perform ... no word yet on who's doing it.

It looked like the show wasn't happening because of a split in the Jackson family, but Weisner says Katherine is now on board and the show will go on.

Katherine released a statement about the tribute show

Katherine's statement:

Los Angeles, August 21, 2009
I am overwhelmed by the worldwide sympathy that my beloved son Michael
has received over the past month. It is a difficult time for my family and I, as
you probably understand.

When Jermaine told me about the Save The World Awards in Austria, at
which he received a special honor on behalf of Michael, and about his plan to
hold a tribute on September 26th for his brother in Vienna, I immediately
found this a wonderful idea because of Michael’s influence and impact
around the world. An event of this dimension not only keeps Michael’s spirit
alive, more than that: It gives millions of fans the opportunity to experience
his music and celebrate the life of my son. I am sure Michael would love it.

It makes me very happy to know that this special event will be seen around
the world and give all his fans a chance to be with Michael and his timeless
music once again. I fully support Jermaine’s endeavors to spread Michael’s
important message of making a better world for us all.

MJ would NEVER have agreed to the prices they are charging. Most will probably be well off people at it, who don't even have Thriller at home.
