Official Charts Thread For ''Michael''

Okay... To those saying that it was because of "lack of promotion".. Why didn't MJ hit #1 on iTunes? It had terrific promotion there yet it still fell a bit short.

I really don't understand this.

I barely saw much promotion on itunes for the longest time. Nothing big and when the album came out then I saw more.

well am just sad,if MJ the experience ;wii could sell 222,222 copies at a cost of $40 dollars per copy then ''Michael'' should have sold at least twice the number of the game.It cost just $10 and even a little below that in some shops.

It'a very dissapointing result irrespective of the lack of promo or hits. This is it was a greatest hits collection and sold 373,000.It's as if Sony/estate used the ''how not to release a posthumous album'' in regards to this album.Michael didnt deserve this.

The fact that An Album was released without michael's final touches to it, no promotion and very little knew about it im happy with it

me too.. a quarter of a million copies ain't shabby at all. Some old school musicians who've been in the business for 40 years would kill to have sales like that and they are living

Yeah sorry for not making myself clear. The "fantastic" part is about the promotion AFTER release. I do agree with you there was nothing pre release, but it finally got the reveal it needed but it still wasn't enough?

The game sold that much? Is that considered good for games? I have been wondering about that and the how well the vision dvd did. This is it had the movie and lots of promotion behind it. A lot of people in the business would love to sell that many nowadays.

Thank You...How many of MJ's peers are doing numbers like these (on a consistent basis meaning, just ONE year after doing 373,000 with ‘this is it’)? This is NOT a bad thing...

It's "okay" I guess. Nothing to brag about though.

I do think it has to do with the holiday season. Susan has a Christmas album. All I hear on the radio is Christmas music non stop. But it was close and I am hoping the overall sales world wide will be good. Taylor is young and all this promotion all the time. He still did better than Black Eyed Peas for example.

Hold My Hand should have been playing on the radio leading up to the release.More than that it did. I haven't heard it at all. I just saw the video for the first time today on tv. Radio and video play helps too.

"Michael" sold nearly as many as Taylor and Boyle in less than one week :wild: as they did in two, :timer: with low promo AND he's not here to promote it himself.

How is that a bad thing???

I am glad Taylor Swift will be #1 and not Boyle because I like Swift much more.

Ok, I know this is hard to face, no matter what our opinions about the album are, but I will say again what many of us have been saying: Michael Jackson is much, much, muuuuuuuuuuuchhh more than this album and his legacy was built by the man himself in life. And still, it's a huge number given the not quite positive circumstances and the many problems since the day that it all began with BN, etc. :mello:

I hope the Estate has learned the lesson.

Yeah the game has sold 502049 copies in [america] and total of 786,925 worldwide in 3 weeks. This is very good for a personality driven game.

you can compare it to the beatles rockband,MJ wii has sold more copies in 3 weeks than the beatles wii sold in their 1st ten weeks.

Exactly and it shows that Michael is capable of topping the artists now.

Thank you. That's good. I wish I could get it but I don't have wii or playstation like that.:(

OMG, the hold my hand video is on tv again!!! for me!

Could it be if so many buy a game for 40 dollars doesn't primarly have a budget for the new album..?

He COULD HAVE been #1 and that is a shame. I feel like he is being let down, as always. Without the haters and some fricking promotion he would have killed any competition. SHAME. He is way better that this!

The good side of things is that Michael Jackson will have #1 albums for 5 decades in top r&b chart Us.(it is hard to believe that"Off the wall "wasnt number 1 in the bilboard 200).

I wonder why sony was projecting 400,000 copies in the 1st week when they were just planning little promotion. In the entertainment industry ,perception is everything and it's always better to overperform than underperform.

That is counted? I mean people look at more than chart? I didn't know that about Off the Wall and people love that album.

Some Positivety...Its all in how you look at it...

It’s official: Ciara has bombed. The ‘Gimme Dat’ performers new album, ‘Basic Instinct’, will debut on the Billboard 200 this week with a lowly 37,940 units sold, entering the lineup at #43. This will be Ciara’s lowest debut in her career to date.
On the other hand, Michael Jackson’s ‘Michael’ LP will nab the #3 spot with 224,910 copies sold. While it is not enough to outsell Susan Boyle or Taylor Swift, the record will have have the highest entry of any Urban release this week.
Diddy-Dirty Money also received a special gift from Santa Claus. The trio’s ‘Last Train To Paris’ will enter the Billboard 200 at #10 with 87,380 units, exceeding all expectations, thanks to massive promotion in the last 7 days. The record did not outsell R. Kelly’s ‘Love Letter’, however, as the R&B King’s album will grab the #6 spot with 150,405 in sales.
On the contrary, Tank was not so lucky as his album will debut at #38 with 41,181 units sold. Still, the R&B crooner has managed to outsell both Ciara and Kandi, the latter of whom has missed the top 50 completely with her ‘Kandi Koated’ release. Ho ho no.

Sales Figures: Ciara Fails But Michael Jackson Reigns | ..::That Grape Juice // ThatGrapeJuice.net:: .. || Thirsty?

Then Sony needs to learn from this. I remember I had to tell people about the album. Nobody knew about it.

Thanks for this.

Yes normally it is counted.
I love a lot too "Off the Wall",it is a masterpiece, it is why i am surprising that it wasn't number 1 on the Bilboard 200.His peak was #3.

That's good then. How many people can say they had #1 album in 5 decades? Off the Wall was #3 too? Then came Thriller. People are discovering Michael again especially young people and that's good too. I am hoping that another single or two get released to support the album.

Then Sony needs to learn from this. I remember I had to tell people about the album. Nobody knew about it.

Yeah,I hope they learn and I hope the album's gonna have legs
Debut sales is not the be all of an album's success, the only problem is that people are too impatient these days and are quick to label an album a flop or success based on 1st week sales or in the case of movies based on weekend debut earnings

 I think it will :)

So is it likely/possible to get #1 next week?

Exactly & me too!
