I like his eyes in this one that you posted:

The first time I saw him without a lot of makeup was when I bought the TV Guide mag in 2001:

He really looked like he was sunburned in the picture I quoted earlier. Is that the effect of vitiligo? Given that he was in a hot place and all (I'm not really clear on what vitiligo further causes once the pigmentation in the skin has been destroyed)

Wasn't the eyeliner tattooed on? That's what I thought..

Also, I don't think he would have ever gone out at least without some makeup on... he would have at least needed some sort of foundation cream or something because he'd want to cover up the depigmentation caused by the vitiligo.

You hit the nail on the head. According to the autopsy report he had permanent make-up, i.e. tats on his lips, around his hairline and his eyes. He had to wear the pancake to even out his skin tone due to the vitiligo. He didn't have to wear as much as he did, but that was his choice. I hate that phrase, "when he was white" that another poster used, because it harkens back to the media/hater hype that he somehow wanted to change his heritage, his culture. Michael Jackson is, was and always will be a BLACK MAN, regardless of some skin disorder and he was never ashamed of being Black, nor did he want to change it.
