I agree. We all know the technical reasons why the kids names are in this case. A caring grandma is filing on behalf of her minor grandchildren. Their guardians did not think about the impact this greedy case would have on the children, because the case essentially is not about getting anything for the children, but for Katherine to get money to give to you know who. My only solace is that the lawyers for AEG know these are minors and will deal with them kindly and appropriately.

Sometimes I wonder what stories the family told the children about AEG's role in Michael's death--makes me cringe.

I dont think it will as it hasnt gotten that much media attention as the murray case did but i guess we will have to wait n see

Yes it will get worse, but for them. A lot of their motivations, habits and behaviors are going to come out.

Are these lawyers getting paid if they win the case, because 7 lawyers is going to be very expensive. Didn't the estate give Katherine some money the last time to pay off the Koreans? Who is paying for the little time the 7 lawyers are devoting to this case. I say little time because if they cannot put their documents together withing a 2-yr time frame, they can't be spending much time on this case.

cilvil cases tmk dont have cameras in the court room. thats a criminal justice thing about justice been seen to be done. i think ivy said they only expect the trial to last a week or so

i guess she has all these lawyers cause they are hoping for a big pay day as part of a settlement and are poss doing it no win no fee. it shows how daft the family are having seven lawyers. who needs that amount its hardly a complex case. dont they realise any win is gonna have to be split seven ways even before the family get their hands on it

All the lawyer's in this case (Jackson side) have specialised in big settlements and medical malpractice. Brian Panish once won one of if not the biggest case (4.9 BILLION). If they can get at least 1/4 of that, there is plenty of money to share between all parties.
The only problem is that they need to win:)

I remember one time Katherine went on tabloids to call estate being greedy.
"In a recent interview from the Michael Jackson Secret Vault, Katherine says, "All these lawyers that are involved in Michael's business since he passed -- there's a lot of them -- I think they're trying to create different lawsuits and things because they're greedy and they want to get paid.""

I wonder if she thinks the same of her own lawyers, all 7 of them?
Btw, that statement from Katherine shows that she knows nothing about MJ's businesses.
Does she still thinks after a few years that those lawsuits were not needed? What estate lawyers were supposed to do, give money to everyone who asks?

Virginia I remember when Katherine made those comments about Michael being physically shaken, disoriented and incoherent when the family was filing the case. Of course right after his death she claimed that he was OK when she spoke to him. The possibility of money makes people change their minds.

I haven't seen a civil case to be televised before so I wouldn't wait for that to happen. I believe they said several weeks for this case.

And a little update

Judge has given 20 days to Katherine to submit her responses to AEG's requests.

The thing is all these lawyers seem to specialized in 'settlements'. Meaning, putting enough public pressure, along with public humiliation, on the table to compel a company to settle instead of fight. This is not happening here. AEG has no intention in settling anything and is willing to lay it all out in the court of law. So far the only people who will be publicly humiliated are the Jacksons.

Also, as Murray's lawyers has shown us, you can be good in your field, but you can only do so much if all the facts are against you. From what we seen and heard, all they have is hearsay.

Good grief, can it be any more embarrassing! When has a Judge EVER had to compel a person to "participate" in their OWN lawsuit?

Did they really think that "what Karen Faye told Randy Jackson" would be enough to keep this lawsuit afloat and that AEG wouldn't fight back, especially now, as it would appear Mrs. Jackson has nothing to back-up her claims..

It's like, dang near, EVERYTHING they "try" to do turns into an Epic Fail.

Ivy, will any of docs made available later, same as Murray's court docs?
I know they can file docs as confidential, but does it mean all of the docs?

I really don't want to rely on papers for reporting the truth.

This must be the first time:) You cannot blame them, they were waiting AEG to provide all the evidence, so they can proceed with this case.

I was reading about legal definition for Summary judgement that Ive mentioned earlier. It says:
The moving party has the initial burden to show that summary judgment is proper even if the moving party would not have the Burden of Proof at trial. The court generally examines the evidence presented with the motion in the light most favorable to the opposing party. Where the opposing party will bear the burden of proof at trial, the moving party may obtain summary judgment by showing that the opposing party has no evidence or that its evidence is insufficient to meet its burden at trial.

We'll see, the way they have been carrying on, I think Katherine and her team hasn't got much evidence.

Yes they can file all documents confidential. So I can't tell you what will be available and what won't.

Trial testimony is transcripts. That's a separate thing that you need to buy.

We need to start some sort of separate money collection for trial transcripts so you don't have to pay all of it by yourself.
I feel guilty that you put money and time to bring all the updates for us, and we give nothing except thumbs up:-(

Like I said before, the Jacksons seem to get all their advise, both legal and career wise, from the gumball machine. Even when they seem to hire people who should know what they are doing they somehow managed to muck it up. It takes a special talent to screw up this badly.

I can only surmise that they honestly thought they could shame AEG into a settlement with their claims and didn't think they would had to bother to back up their claim. They may of also believe that Murray's trial would had helped them in some way instead of doing the opposite. Really, I don't know what goes through this family's minds.

Lawyers are expecting to set a trial date on January 31 for the children’s own separate lawsuit against promoters AEG Live.

The Jackson family’s lawyer Brian Oxman told me if they win, the damages could eventually reach up to $1 billion.

He says AEG employed Dr Conrad Murray — a claim it denies — and that this astronomical sum is based on what Jackson could have earned had he lived.

‘The children are the youngest plaintiffs for the largest amount of money in our memory,’ Mr Oxman said.
‘I don’t think there is anywhere that could rival the size of this legal claim.’

I think lawyers just filled the family's heads up with all the money they could get. Judging by the bizarre lawsuits launched against mj, there seems to be no shortage of lawyers willing to file all sorts of claims and the jacksons have unfortunately proved countless times they have really poor judgement and are sitting ducks when people come to them waving promises of money.

Ivy - yes count me in for any transcript buying collection - even if the media are reporting on it, you know they're just going to print the stuff which is anti-mj.

Yeah, but the lawyers that they have now, at least one of them, do seem to have some merit and common sense. You don't win a multi-billion lawsuit by luck. Which is why I am surprise by how this group of lawyers are acting. I expected more, but then again I remember Murray's lawyers. They look good on paper and had some impressive wins, but they seem to utterly sucked defending Murray.

But I do agree, it's all about money at the end and the Jacksons' greed has no limits or shame.

My thoughts exactly! If they lose this case, the media is not going to post much about the lawyers, but they definitely fill the papers with Katherine and other family members "misfortune".

20 days is a lot of time. This judge is really working with her, so let's see if she can produce this information within 20 days that she could not produce in 2 years.
