Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

Even IF it's stretched back to 4:3, the quality won't be much better.

Example:

4:3

Stretched to 16:9

I see what you mean. But in the photos you provided, the photo was stretched. The top and bottom stayed in the same position, while the left and right edges were stretched to meet the 16:9 standards (if this makes sense to everyone?). The way I saw the Daybreak clip, the VHS was zoomed in so that the left and right edges would meet the 16:9 screen.

I really hope that made sense... I'm having a hard time describing what I mean...

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

Knowing michael, he probably hid it somewhere (sounds like the making of an awesome nic cage film, no?) So what do they do instead? They release whatever they have because they know they're going to make money off of it anyway because we're a totally rabid fanbase. Hence, fake songs, poor quality recordings, whatever.

There's a big difference between fake songs and a 110% real concert performance. Every company releases what they have to make money. I guarantee that after John Lennon and Elvis's deaths, their record companies/estates didn't care about pleasing the fans. They cared about making money. The only people who really could pay tribute to the artists are their families. I'd love to see an album of unreleased material in which Michael's kids picked the tracklisting.

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

it definitely relates to the cascio situation. I think we're getting a clear picture of what's going on here: They don't have access to any of the good stuff.

A lot of people have been saying it's "better than nothing." i don't agree. i CERTAINLY don't agree, when it comes to fake songs, that's completely unacceptable in any circumstance. But i also don't agree on poor quality. I would definitely like to watch mj wembley in any quality, but it's NOT ok for a public release by the estate. If they have this and want to give it to us, i think that's great, but to sell it as a dvd? where other, non-fans will see it? it's embarrassing. it's also horrible PR on their part and they're ruining their already damaged relatonship with the fan base.

And they were clever enough making it a package deal! And for the price of $40!!! I said if the quality is good that would be good price. But for this quality the price should be $20 + free DVD.

sorry applehead, i'm losing fate with every day. its been one week since the statement.
i change my mind everyday, but for now i belive this is what we'll get.
only if real snippets from the estate are shown.
and this project have been planed and worked for almost a year. is this all they could do about it? did they got the tape last week?

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

You can? I know I can't even see Michael's face..

Orly? Then where's the blu-ray. They didn't look hard enough for better source I guess. Cause there COULD be blu-ray.

Wow, really? Are you really going to pick at things like this?

Ah yes, sorry. I didn't know you meant zoomed as well. I'm not sure how to zoom using VLC (didn't work).

But then again, the promo on the official MJ Youtube channel isn't stretched. And it looks even worse than this "new footage" - maybe because it's on youtube. But if that was shown on the TV channel, it would look pretty much the same as the "new footage".

I would absolutely not want to see that. His own daughter doesn't even know his voice. She thinks that HT is fake!

It's all good :) And I have to admit, that looks PRETTY bad... But then again, we can only hope that it can get better.

Let's be realistic. Take your VCR, put a video cassette in it and plug it into the large screen. See what happens. You can scale it anyway you want, but the non-existing details cannot be added.

Here, in comparison, take for example a song that is in MP3 format with a size of 4Mb, you will never be able to obtain out of that song a quality of 8Mb if its initial size iz 4Mb.

VHS technology is analogical technology whereas DVD is digital. Analogical means that when you copy from the original source to the VHS cassette, there are irreversible video (and sound) losses, noise, interferrences and many other little things which makes the VHS copy an imperfect copy.

With (CD, DVD, Blu-Ray) digital technology we don't have the same problem because when the original source is copied it is in reality completely cloned (the same way if you see someone who uploads a song that is 8Mb quality, you can download it without any interferrence or loss, you'll have exactly 8Mb on your computer).

Mixing the two technology this is what we will get:

source VHS -> digitally transferred to DVD = clone of the VHS quality on a DVD support. Can it be enhanced and remastered? Of course, but what exactly? Well, if there are two many white ro gray spots or scratches on VHS source they could be restored up to a certain point, but the details themselves (colors) wil be so stretched on DVD that they will appear unfortunatelly blurry and not sharp.

However, as they do have the original sound that is a multitrack one, then thanks to the digital technology they'll be able to "clone" it on the DVD exactly the way it has been recorded.

To sum up, we'll get a low quality video, but a high quality sound. This leads me to believe that after all it'll be better than the bootleg DVDs or VCDs.

Ya know, Bumper, you seriously blow my mind sometimes :p But I'm just hoping that it can be restored so it's better than the Victory Tour leaks/Bad Tour in Tokyo. Hell, I would gladly accept Wembley if it was in the same quality as the Buenos Aires Dangerous concert.

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

There is no point of complaining in here. If you feel strongly about this, you should flock to mj's website, facebook, twitter and pressure them to address this quality issue before it's too late.

I have done it and will continue on Twitter. But know that they also read this forum.

It will look like other Wembley snippets we have:

Quality looks just like this in that new snippet

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

Ivy, I know you've done so already, but is it possible to contact the Estate/Online Team and say that people are INCREDIBLY concerned over the quality; that bootlegs so far have exhibited better quality etc. and see if we can get a statement quicker? All of this is beginning to concern me now, too.

For the sound don't be concerned, it'll be better than the bootleg's. ;)

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

What`s the point of this discussion? It`s the same clip over and over again and the same discussion over and over again. We have a info from Ivy. Is it not possible to wait some days or weeks until the Estate adress this theme?

I think that it's not good to just wait and see what will happen and what they'll say (if they say). We have enough time before they release it. We have to react and tell them that this quality is unacceptable. They have enough time & money (they earned well in last few years and now Immortal Tour is biggest grossing tour in the US) to find and buy the rights or the whole films from whoever has them. They'll keep releasing shit if we don't do something. I've been tweeting @MJonlineteam about this. I think everyone should.

I will repeat it here

1. They are AWARE of the concerns in regards to quality.
2. Not only I talked to Online team who talked to the Estate but the Estate sent a REPLY back.
3. So once again they are AWARE and RESPONSIVE to the concerns in regards to quality.

4. Yesterday I have learned from another source that Sony is also contacted and aware of the concerns.

Both Estate and Sony has said to wait for a while and the concerns will be addressed.

I don't know how long the wait will be or I don't know whether the answer will be satisfactory or not but I guess we can wait to get more information before we come to conclusions.

As I said I already mentioned all of the quality concerns and they have already responded with "wait a little while and we'll address it". I don't know what they are waiting for or how long we will be required to wait but perhaps - just perhaps - the enhancement process is still ongoing and they need to wait for it to be finished before they can talk about / show the quality of the final product.

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

If only they could find the films of all the concerts and press them on Blu-Rays that'd be my dream come true! Can you imagine, Triumph, Victory, Bad, Dangerous, History on blu-rays with bonuses such as Ghosts, Captain EO and all MJ music videos :)

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

I don't understand why this even had to come to the point where Sony gets "aware of our concerns" regarding the quality of a video.

I mean, didn't they expect that when releasing these promos in that quality? Mnks.

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

Having read EVERYTHING in these threads and thinking about this, I am now too begining to feel a little concerned. Yes I want this release more than anything, but I now have doubts about the visual quality. I know the Estate is aware of peoples concerns, I'm just voicing my own concern. I know were waiting for the Estate to address this.

They couldn't care less.

if you want an honest response, MJ fans are the only group of people that loves to rush to conclusions. We are the ones that believe Perez Hilton's tabloid story of Glee, hate remixes before even hearing them and look to a a few second promo to start speculating about DVD. In most instances people actually wait to see / learn more before rushing to premature conclusions.

Furthermore there's 4 months to the release and the work on the release can still be ongoing. For example Spike Lee is still shooting his documentary. Similarly the work on the DVD can be still ongoing and they might have released pre-enhancement promos. There's still time.

I think it has more to do with going by their track record.

That's actually NOT terrible. If the quality is like this (for the most part, Michael's facial features are visible), it would look even BETTER remastered.

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

No it's the fans and our "can't wait" attitude.

It was the fans who discovered the Bad 25 logo from trademark registrations. Immediately people rushed to conclusions that all black logo did not look nice, they didn't even paid attention that the registration did not cover colors.

When the actual color logo was sent , immediately some people again started to hate it. "wait and see it on where it's used" comments was even rejected.

Today you can see that such negativity has passed and the colors are changed to fit the background. The gray border was to make it fit with the Pepsi cans. This demonstrates that if we wait for more information we get more satisfaction. In some instances our speculations and negativity is premature and quite frankly not needed.

I'm all for stating our concerns and ask the questions - and like I said for several times now - it has been already done with Estate and Sony. They both have said they'll respond to it over time. I think we can wait to see what they'll say before we attach another negativity to a such important and waited release for us all.
