Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary- DVD / Blu Ray [available on iTunes Nov 19]

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

I don't think it was his choice to edit it for the US. He wouldn't have had a choice. The good thing is they got him to cut it down instead of butchering it themselves.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

Even if ABC gave it a 2 hour time slot, there still would have been stuff to cut out.

No major network would have given a doc like this 2 and a half hours (to include the whole program PLUS commercials).

But at least it came on at all.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

I watched it last night and it was fantastic!! i loved it :)

My fave parts were bad & just cant stop loving you

Agreed.
The network would have allocated a slot and told the MJ Estate that if they wanted it to be shown it would have to be shorter.
Either the MJ Estate would have to shorten it, or as you say NBC could have edited it down themselves, but because the MJ Estate know the way the media works I doubt they would want to give NBC the freedom to edit their documentary. Even a totally great piece of film can be butchered into something that's not so great for MJ if the network is given enough freedom. Look what happened with the Bashir documentary when Bashir/ITV had their chance.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

well I hope no online streams work. this is for the UK.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

don't mean to sound greedy or rude, but this is for the UK. Spike Lee gave us this in its entirety, it was his choice to edit it for the US. all I'm saying is that people should take what they're given.

That was decided by the TV house, Lee just did it for them.

well I hope no online streams work. this is for the UK.

I'm sorry, but what is that supposed to mean?!

I live in a small country and TV channels here probably can't even afford to purchase the screening of the documentary.. the internet allows us to see things that we could never see otherwise.

For example, I never saw Michael live because he never toured here... Thank god I still get to see the concerts, again, because of the internet. So if I 'took what I was given', in my example absolute ZERO, I would have never seen him perform.. It would be such a shame.

It's not about what we (as a country) do or what we don't deserve.. I'm sorry to disappoint you but it's mostly the matter of money.. UK can afford it and my country can't. Here they probably won't be even selling the DVD when it's released so I will again have to use internet and order it via amazon or ebay.

so please, STOP being so f* selfish, that isn't at all what Michael was about.

Michael wasnt about illegal downloads or copyright streaming either, for example this is it. he was doing it in the UK first right? thn rumour has it he was gonna tour in different countries month at a team. that's what I'm saying, the Blu-Ray is coming in Feb. just like this is it was gonna come a year later to different countries if Michael was still here.

What a bizarre argument.

No. This is for all Michael Jackson fans around the world. If it were the other way around you'd be watching a stream as well. I hope everyone enjoys the full documentary because I know they'll buy it when it is released anyway (if they are able to). The only reason we're getting the full documentary is because BBC doesn't show adverts so try being grateful, not selfish.

Stream: For those who are not in the UK, if you're awake tomorrow and want to watch the full documentary here is a live stream of BBC2: http://www.stream2watch.me/live-tv/bbc-2-live-stream

As many people as possible around the world (not just 'fans') need to see this. And then I hope they all go out and buy the DVD for the extras!

lol what is this?
What a completely bizarre thing to say.

And streams and downloads will be up. Theres nothing wrong with, especially, watching something that was on FREE TV channels to begin with. We're in a time where things are gonna go online right away.
And if you feel this way about a thing that was shown on tv for free in various countries, then you should just not ever look at youtube again, or not DL anything in 2000 Watts, or just anything with the internet.

Where "This Is It" was gonna take place is irrelevant. He could have done it in Germany and it would have still sold out.
Not sure what a concert has to do with a documentary airing on TV is about.

Looking at the populist UK press (I know, tabloid), the Daily Mail gives this a 4 star rating ( the maximum), and 'top billing' ('Pick of the Day') for the evening's viewing. (With a v nice photo of Michael from 'Liberian Girl').

The write-up starts off well, but declines as per expectation. However, for 'non fans', this should still (hopefully) encourage them to watch......and maybe learn more afterwards!

'Having aired on Thanksgiving night in the US, this very classy rockumentary by Spike Lee now arrives on BBC2. As well as being a must-see for Michael Jackson fans, it is also a beautifully crafted film, offering an intimate portrait of a gifted performer at the height of his powers. In the light of Jackson's subsequent sad decline, its easy to forget just how good he was 25 years ago when he made his last classic album, Bad. Lee's film includes rare and useen footage of the making of that album, along with the recollections of those Jackson worked with and confided in at that time, and of Martin Scorsese, who directed the 18 mnute short film for the single Bad.'

Classic, of course it was easy to forget if the msm spent the past decades completely assasinating everything about him. I'm glad it was top billing in the mail - their tv mag is really well laid out.

Everybody in the uk enjoy bad25 and everybody outside uk, hope you find a live streaming.
@ bobmoo - I'm sure you'll have a great time watching the I'm a celeb final! :D Thank goodness for recorders.

Good that it's generally positive, but I don't like how commentators always class Bad as his last great album. For me Dangerous is also a classic. It has even sold more than Bad worldwide.
