Welcome Karom :) please read and sign the confidentiality agreement I mentioned

http://www.mjjcommunity.com/forum/threads/59777-Electronic-Confidentiality-Agreement

Then make yourself comfortable and browse around the Staff forums.
Feel free to ask any questions that come to mind. We are here to help.

You'll need to be trained on how to do basic moderator task like soft delete post and threads, merging threads, changing thread titles, open, close threads etc.. but its not hard. Plus we have other duties that we need help with. Take a couple days to browse through the staff forums and the tutorial below and then I will help you perform a few task with a training thread, I will make for you. Plus I'll post some helpful tips below once you get in and everyone has a chance to say hi.

The Easy How To Tutorial For Mods is Stickied in the Moderation Training Room forum

Welcome to our motley crew - Team MJJC :)

Hello everyone. I'm happy to be here. :D

Qubee, the Agreement link doesn't seem to work. It gives me an "Internal server error". But thank you for the tutorial, I will check it out. :)

EDIT: It also seems I can't access the tutorials. I have access to the Tutorial thread but once I click on the links, it says my account doesn't have access.

EDIT 2: I managed to get into the agreement thread. Your link doesn't work but I clicked on the thread and it did.

I see the problem there were 2 Electronic agreements. One was in the Training forum and one here in Staff forum. That can be confusing, so I just merged them into one thread in here. So we are all are on same page.

It seem you don't have access to the moderation or training forums. We will have Gaz look into that and give you access so you can read the Tutorials and see the sub forums in there. I'm glad you are making yourself at home and joining the discussions.

I seem to be able to access the Moderation forum and all its threads, including the moderation training rooms, all but the tutorials. Anyway, I think I've figured out how to merge, edit, delete posts/threads. It's not really that difficult. I still have to go through the moderation guides, but I'll get to it and if I have any further questions, I'll post them here.

Thank you. I hope I'm not being too nosy. It's a problem with me.

Ok I misunderstood. I thought you didn't have access to the forums. I will check the tutorials to see what the prob is

Be nosey .. thats the best way to learn .. :)

Some things I can suggest while you wait that is very important is to read the rules carefully.
So you understand what situations you might need to moderate. READ OUR FORUM RULES

Another thing you can do is read through the reports and that can give you an idea of different
situations reported and how we moderate them. sometimes no action is necessary at all

If you see something that doesnt look right on the board and you are not sure just report the thread with the report icon and if you wish leave a post in the report and we can discuss what action to take. That way you will learn how to deal with different situations that may come up. Right now its very slow on the board.

I would also like to stress we are not police or wardens. We are here to HELP and SERVE our members but sometimes we have to take certain actions to insure our members have a pleasurable experience. So when addressing them we should be as helpful and polite as possible although there are cases when we need to be stern to get the point across.

When we post we are posting as members our opinions and views have no more weight than any others just becuase we are staff. So we must make sure members know when we are moderating as apposed to just posting our views. So when you put on your mod hat - place a header in your post Mod Note - then members know you are addressing them as a moderator becuase it can get confusing. Also the header brings attention to the post that they may miss other wise in the thread. Now there are times this may not be necessary especially for Rudolf in 2000 Watts. He may get away with just posting a reminder in a thread without the header. The point is we need to make sure members know when we are moderating as apposed to just chit chating with them.

Although you will have more responsibility to check out the forums and threads. You will just be posting as you Normally do on the board and enjoying the fellowship with our MJ fam :) and then moderate as necessary

Thanks for the tips. :)

I've been nosing around the threads here all day long trying to figure things out.

I have one question though. I nearly accidentally gave someone "Infractions" today when I was trying to find out what the new buttons do. So, what exactly are "Infractions"? I've found some old posts about it from when it first came out, but they weren't very edifying.

Let me know if you can view this link to Tutorials now - post the error you receive if any
It was locked but that shouldn't have made a difference.

http://www.mjjcommunity.com/forum/threads/121897-Easy-How-To-Tutorial-For-Mods

I can access the thread. However, when I click on the links in the first post, it tells me my account does not have enough privileges to view that page. But I notice now that you have posted "How to's" below, in that same thread.

We rarely use infractions - If we do its for points against constant offenders. Or someone that posts a blatant attack or offensive post. Once they receive so many points they would be placed in moderation or banned. That way it puts the burden on them if they wish to remain .. we usually discuss if this action is necessary in the report threads . but as I stated we rarely even use it .. If we get a real Asshle that wont comply then we would or just out right tell them to cease or they will be placed in moderation while we discuss their fate.

ok .. the index links are probably broken on the first post but they just lead to the content that is already posted in that thread. glad we figured it out :) I also know to fix the links now .. all is good

I see. Thanks. I've noticed that this whole moderation thing is one big team work. You guys talk about everything, which is very helpful. :D It helps me appreciate how much thought goes into decisions made behind the scenes. We're like Santa's elves. I'm loving the communication. So I just want to say thank you for the effort you put into it and for the help you're giving me now. Hopefully, I will soon be able to help rather than need help.

I see. Well, I've got the technical bit figured out for the most part, I just need that sense, that I guess comes with experience, of when action is or is not needed.

 Welcome to the MJJC team, Karom

Glad to have you aboard :D

Daryll.

I have another question. When someone reports a post, does that automatically create a thread in the "reported posts" forum? Because going through that forum, that's the impression it leaves.

Yes, it does.

Hey guys, I was just nosing around the mod userCP and trying to find my way around and I saw this Jr member (username-nasty) who was invisible. I also noticed (s)he had an asterix by his/her name. Now, I'm not sure but I thought not even regular members had access to that feature anymore, only Club members. Am I wrong?

Gotta admit karom, I am very much impressed by your straight in straight getting on with it, for me being actively involved in all areas is what's makes an incredible staffer, well done oh and yeah you will stumble make a wrong decision that's inevitable don't worry to much as its all a learning curb, it's mainly how you pick your self up and crack back on is what really speaks for me.

Thanks again, good to have you on board.

You are not wrong :) nasty doesn't have access to that feature. It was I who made nasty invisible, because we were having problems with the great debate thread. They kept mentioning him in their posts every time they saw he was viewing the forum, like he was someone spying on them or something. I don't know who they thought he was. He has never posted. We ask them not to do it because it's rude to the person. Some didn't get the message and were still doing it... so I finally just made him invisible to solve the problem.

Thanks Gaz! Good to know my over-enthusiasm is not annoying everyone for a change. Once again, it's great to be here. :)

Oh, I see. Well, I didn't change anything, so that's good. I was just curious. :D My blessing and my curse.

Err guys... there's this thread in mod que that is in some weird language and it's just a bunch of links judging by which it's just some online shopping, also the guy who posted it has no posts at all, so I'm gonna go on a limb here and delete it.

Hi Karom
A mod task for you to perform :)

Ok I was going to take action here, but decided to save it for you to get some practice and see how the report system works.

This post is paparazzi post of Paris Picture from dailymail and is not allowed.
Although members are trying to play mod in there, which we frown upon - for some reason, none have them have reported the post.

First report the post - reason (Paparazzi pic of MJ's children)
http://www.mjjcommunity.com/forum/t...-Rowe/page11?p=3817426&viewfull=1#post3817426

ooops Edit to add - then delete the post - I forgot that part

Then select all 4 replies to the deleted post and soft delete them- reason (reply to deleted post)

Send Cheribum a PM telling her we deleted the picture and please be careful not to post Pap pics of MJ children. ( use you own words )

Sign it

Team MJJC
Karom

Go to the report in moderation forum and post what actions you took

Deleted Pap picture and all replies to the post and sent PM to Cheribum (something like that) - you can post your PM and her reply in the report if you want - but its not mandatory

Once you are done
I am going to leave an admin note in the thread. Addressing members posting Pap pics and addressing members complaining and trying to play mod instead or reporting such posts so we can take care of it.

I also sent this message too you via PM

That is a spammer .. his post is in moderation and can't be seen on the board - leave those because the Spammer has to be banned and sent to Spam accounts and only Sr mods have the capability to ban. If ever you are not sure about a post in moderation just click ignore or leave it. Its no biggy he will be back and we will catch him or this may be his one and only post. - I'm going to bring bring you into the mailroom later today and you can delete them all you want in there

^Got it. I was sure not going to approve it, but there was no one online at the time to ask.

very good
Ok, I'm done I think.
soft Delete the Paps pic that you reported - reason (pap pics of MJ kids not allowed)
I forgot that part above and just added it ..

ooops Edit to add - then delete the post - I forgot that part

Well, I did soft delete the pic as well... I figured it was common sense. I think the reason I gave was "Paparazzi pic of Paris". Is that ok?

Edit: For some reason, it didn't get deleted the first time. I had some connection issues so that must be the reason. Anyway, I deleted it now. :D
