@Pentum, I agree in as much as a big wait for it announcement was not necessary and will only lead to disappointment from fans. I'm happy that Michael is heard as much as possible and I do like the commercial but they should have just run with the announcement this morning.

exactly but what can u expect frm the estate? They frigging released This is it as MJ's first posthumous single(wat a bad choice), and had some incompetent producers butcher 'hollywood tonight', 'another day' etc.

judging by the snippet, it is easy to tell what it's going to sound like. STTR is a hit material and has always been my fav unreleased MJ song. I don't want it to suffer the same fate as those songs in 'Michael'.

I'm thinking it's maybe a jay z magna carta/samsung type deal whereby buyers of the sony experia will get a free app to download a new mj album days before a new one is released to the public. I can imagine purists will hate this type of deal and the hype around it, but that's the way the music biz is these days. The economic power has shifted from the record industry to artist brands and delivery systems so from the estate's point of view it's a great deal and they do have a $250m contract with sony to fulfill. I agree that to fan forums, there was no need for the big countdown to an announcement as fans are obviously more interested in the music not biz deals.

Remember, Tricky said he DESTORYED the original production to Slave to the Rhythm.
This new mix of it had me....ehhhhh....at first. but hot dang. This is what I want to hear.

Fantastic work. Amazing job. I feel the sense of urgency within the track now, the beat is 100x better than what we heard before and the strings are kicking.
I can't wait, and I believe this is confirmation "The Best Is Yet To Come"

Edit: I actually was looking for a new phone too and I was eying this Z2's predecessor :) Take my money Sony! NOW!

As we have seen from their previous incredibly successful ad campaigns? I guess I just see it differently. The phone deal and ad seem a bit tacky to me, in part because of what respect77 mentioned. Not a huge deal though.

It seems obvious more is in store for us soon, but I do think it was a bit of a mistake to send out an announcement of the announcement to the fans. I can get why some fans feel a bit let down by this. And I think it's too easy to say "oh but fans expect too much." One important part of these people's jobs is to read the fanbase. They should have realised that announcing things this way would build anticipation for something major, rather than a Sony mobile partnership.

The mix sounds like a generic Timbaland beat. Not my kinda thing really. It also sounds like a complete rework, rather than Timbaland adding a few touches here and there as was suggested before. I guess we'll have to wait and see whether this is going to end up on the album. I'll just keep hoping the rumour about a second disc with the original demos being released is true.

I agree. I love that song and think it's great it's being used in that manner... but I find it sad that they hyped this up, getting fans hopes up for a concert release or something like that, only to find out it's not even close to that.

I guess we should have learned a long time ago not to get our hopes up or expect anything big to be announced.

I actually like the few seconds where MJ sings. - His vocals are so clear like the vocals are a little higher than the music - I love that!!

ALSO - this is a very short part of the song - We hear the chorous like 2-3 times and thats it... - Not fair to judge the entire song from that!

I think the final album version will be great! - The song needed some updated production and finalizing.

I think the new album just moved a lot closer. - Now they have announced one of the songs - soon they will announce the album, tracklist release date etc. etc.

I think it is a smart choice to use STTR in a commercial - and then (hopefully) release it as the first single!

Because I told myself to be realistic with the Estate, I ended up really enjoying this and the sound is hyping me up quite a lot.

I believe Monday isn't not over so it's kind of too soon to tell if that's the new annoucement for sure. Especially since nothing surfaced on MichaelJackson.com yet. The estate said it's going to be on the website, not on the phone premiere or whatever it was. The commercial itslelf also directs people to the website. It wasn't even day time in USA when it got published. We'll be a bit smarter by the end of the day. But you go ahead and be disappointed way before time. Seems like you love that feeling. I think following news are on its way very soon (for the reasons I wrote before) - even if that's indeed the announcement. The MJ Estate knows you don't care about their buisness deals with mobile phones companies. Talk about killjoy...

Actually the news has surfaced on the Michael Jackson website if you go to the homepage and the bottom left in 'news' it clearly mentions the phone deal..

Ok my bad I must have missed it (thought it would be bigger lol) that but again the commercial directs to the website for the song that featured on it and the website shows news about the commercial - surly there's more to come. If that's the Monday announcement - I believe there's a following soon. Still I don't see why it's such a big diappointment since it looks more and more realistic STTR is going to come out soon. Unless they gonna hype the song and then not use the hype for their own good.

At first, after the hype and learning what the fuzz was about, I was a little disappointed. But now I'm happy about the news! Using an updated version of STTR in a commercial most likely means it won't take too long for a single/album announcement. Moreover, I'm always happy to hear MJ songs on the radio/tv, especially if it's a relatively unknown/current song that can win over new fans.
Judging from the few seconds we heard, I won't fall in love with the Timbaland-remix. Not a huge fan of the computer-beat. But it's way better than Tricky's version, so we got that going for us, which is nice ;)
Nevertheless, I'm anxious to hear the full version as well as more news! And of course hoping for the original demos to surface on a potential deluxe-verison.

My view is they should have just announced on mj.com rather than the element of mystery communication that was given to all fan communities yesterday, for me this then creates an air of excitement that is then directed specifically towards the fans which this is not, for me this project is more about marketing Sony Mobile using Michael's music for the wider mobile phone market.

These kinds of projects are more a corporate marketing strategy rather than something the fans are perhaps going to benefit from, of course fans (well some) will enjoy the music remixing just my thought this should have just gone announced on MJ.com for us to generally pick up.

At the end of the day you send such communications that can create this excitement directly to those who it's not really aimed at there will then always be an element of disappointment between a few.

I smell new album details and release within the next couple of weeks.
 
I think the problem was the announce and not the commercial. MJ used his songs to sell in the past. Pepsi, shoes etc. If there's something coming, this is a way to put the song out before even being released.

Also this is like the 'best cell phone ever' (or thats how they sell it) and they chose the best of Sony to put music to the commercial, which is Michael Jackson

Fans wants unreleased songs, but when the songs are released, they don't want them, they want the other ones.
Then there are fans that wants to hear songs the way how Michael left them, and when that happened for example with Don't be messing around, you would have thought these same fans that are moaning had run to buy it, but sales speaks differently. Then there are fans who has different opinion of one song and who should do the mix. My advice to the estate: take one song and give it the all the producers in the world, and let them have a go with it and release all thousand versions = everybody is happy.
Take the same song as above mentioned, release unfinished version the way MJ left, finished version = everybody happy.

Why should the estate release more than 1 song if fans have millions of requirements. They should just release 1 song with tons of different versions of it, and that way they have lots of songs for the future:D
 
Excuse me,but I meant to say that this announcement,judging from how big of a deal they were making it,was very anti-climactic.
It could've been built up as less of a big deal,but whatever,I guess.

Fans are unhappy with BAD 25 VHS quality DVD, not the demos (most of them)

Nobody said the announcement was big, you guys made it big in your minds and created all the hype by yourself. I didn't get my hopes up and I'm not dissapointed in the slightest.

Most artists out there would kill for a promo like this.

I do like what i heard too, MJ vocals are a lot clearer, almost accapella like. Hopefully a new album announcement is close too.
