The Estate of Michael Jackson enters partnership with Sony Mobile

Michael used Sony for the Thriller25 release. Safe to say, things were fixed. He had an issue with Mottola.

No one releases bonus tracks as singles.

i didn't mean as a single, but all i'm saying is.. remixes don't deserve a place on a tracklist, should be bonus tracks. like the jackson's 'destiny' shake your body remix.

I was thinking the same thing. I was confused when I saw people comment that he was in there. If you listen with your head phones, you hear a bit of spoken vocals muffled about twelve seconds in.

Oh, thanks! I listened to it again with headphones and I noticed it now. After 12 sec. he's ad libbing "break them down" barely audible. And I like it! It fits and it doesn't hurt the song at all.

Apology to Zakk about adlibs.

Zakk - we have (nearly always ) agreed with each other but I have gotta ask this?

On the youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZ9HkICDuOI you write:

yeah, and it sounds like crap. the song is ruined and this album will be another screw up. the estate never learn.

First - How does this help MJ in terms of sales etc.

Second - why bash it puplicly? If non-fans read such comments they judge the song before they even hear it.

Third - Why so negative when all we have heard is a Commercial version? - We hear MJ sing/say the line 3 times that's pretty much it. - Maybe the album version will be different and genius?!!

Fourth - Why not be happy that the album release is getting closer and we will soon be enjoying new music!

Fifth - How do you actually know that this is not the version MJ last worked on? - Maybe this is the closest to MJ's vision we will ever get?! - Maybe this IS MJ's version and vision...

Finally - I would love if we for once could just enjoy what we get - and enjoy the fact that we ARE getting something!! This is like a gift to the fans! - NEW MUSIC!!

Negativity - keep it to yourself, make a thread for all those who hate the estate and everything they do. - Then all the rest of us can be happy about what we hear and get!

I came into this thread all exited and happy - liking the commercial bit of STTR - and before I even got to write a positive comment I had read 5 pages of negativity and people bashing the music, STTR, the "stupid announcement!, the Estate, (as always) SONY - and much more... - All my exitement and happiness was gone before I even had the chance to write something positive....

Sad really...

Right now all I care about is if the songs sound good. I'm not a music snob and I don't need every song to blow me away and be revolutionary. All I want is something good

I thought you were ALL against touching MJ's songs...

i am, which is why i said remixes don't deserve a place on the main tracklisting.

bad 25 had remixes, none of them conflicted with any of the demo's. same thing should be for the new album, if there is remixes, then they shouldn't be in the same area of the disc as the demo's are.

Seems like Zakk thinks that some unfinished demo has a chance of becoming some classic for the ages. No one would care about it outside the hardcore fans, but an updated version may get a new generation to check his catalogue out, which IMO should be the goal with most of the projects from now on.

MJ has left more than enough classics for the ages, it's ridiculous to put such expectations on old unfinished demos.

That would make a difference because of what? Too lazy to press skip?

Only thing I agree with Zakk is, they aren't getting my money if we are not getting the demos as well (as stated in Damien's article). Better keep up, Estate!

A double disk album is the only thing that could really please everyone. Although I'm sure that some people will complain about that too

He had an issue with Sony too. But in 2001/2002 and for specific reasons, not in general, not for all times and not without a reason.

Then don't consider new versions as remixes, consider them as album versions (which they actually are). You do realise that you can't release a track from 1989 with production from 1989 as an album track or even less as a single? Noone would play that on the radio.

This never ending Sony hate is kind of stupid since Michael worked with them in 2008 after the contract was finished

it's not hard to please us, the hardcore Michael Jackson fans prefer his true vision. not some attempt at a 21st century remix.

I think Michael Jackson hardcore fans have different opinions about how Michael´s true vision would be

Guys Michael is not with us anymore. I think the remix has power. I like it more than the tricky mix. And how can you say that is so much away from the demo, if you haven't listen to it. Sure I want that the music Michael left, should be so near to his vision, as could be. But we have 2014. I want that Michael became no. 1 at the charts. He should be at the top again. But that's not possible, with demos like from Bad 25. Michael ever was going with the time, mostly he was ahead the time. In music, fashion etc. He often tooks his old songs, to rework them. And we know, that he want to work with Timbaland. So how you can say, that Michael wouldn't like this mix. Maybe he would do a mix, that is really near to this one. I think Timbaland did a good job. I feel that MJ sound in a new way. Maybe new Dangerous 2014 Style. It sounds like Michael, not like Justin etc. Maybe not 100 percent, but that is not possible. Give it a chance. It will be a club banger. And sorry for my bad english.

Just listened to the snippet again and it slays! It sounds fresh but still has that michael quality to it. Can't wait to hear the full song and the new album :)

Although I would love to have second disc with original versions and/or demos, that is highly unlikely. So you will be left out without anything.

Go back to 2010 and remember what were your thoughts and feelings back then. After Breaking News streamed, all we wanted was real Michael Jackson songs, we didn't care (we cared but it wasn't the most important thing) who produce it, is it true to Michael's vision, is it previously leaked... All we cared is that it has Michael Jackson vocals. Imagine that scenario happening all over again and thank God and be grateful that we are getting at least full album of Michael Jackson songs. And the original versions and demos.. we'll get them too.. sooner or later they will leak (you already have some of them - Escape, Blue Gangsta, A Place With No Name) or will be oficially released on some Greatest Hits compilation/box set or anniversary edition.

I would love 2 disc special edition for the fans.. don't get me wrong. But this time I'm not boycotting. My only condition is that there is no name Cascio anywhere near the album.

What we heard of this song is still very little to judge the whole of it, let alone the full album. I think the source of disappointment was that they announced the announcement in advance and it created expectations in the fandom but it turned out only to be a commercial, which may excite mobile phone fans, but obviously we MJ fans expected something more regarding MJ and the next project. But it will come.

As for the production, I'm not sure it's my cup of tea, but I remind myself it's a very little snippet that we heard, so it's too early to say whether I like it or dislike it. But I agree that it is not wise for fans to go to YouTube and and trash this there - with MJ fans of all people trying to undermine the project. Not wise. Let the general public like it if they like it, even if for hard core fans it may not be the best. We have to accept that nothing ever will be as when MJ was alive.

When I first heard this remix snippet I thought it was crap, but after listening to it a few times, it's okay. I think the instrumental doesn't go with his vocals. It's like too relaxed, if you know what I mean? I don't know how I feel about this atm lol.

Barcelona, Spain (CNN) -- Sony has announced a tie-up with the estate of Michael Jackson, allowing them to use his music to promote the release of a new smartphone. But the announcement left some Jackson fans unimpressed.
Tanisha Woods @ShandreaNashea Ooooohhhh the disappointment!!!! Why not just release a new album!!! You have the material too! @michaeljackson9:48 AM - 24 Feb 2014 @ShandreaNashea Exactly!! I got the song back in 2010, I have 3 different versions of that song, hah!
The previously-unreleased track "Slave to the Rhythm" featured as part of a 90-second video shown to journalists at the launch of the Xperia Z2 phone at the world's biggest mobile trade fair in Barcelona, Spain, on Monday. But fans were quick to point out that the song has been around for a while:A version of the song featuring Justin Bieber surfaced online in 2013, but the Jackson estate said the recording was not authorized, and insisted it be removed from YouTube and other sites.Jackson worked on the song in 1998 during the Dangerous Sessions, and a version of the song also leaked online in 2010 following Jackson's death in 2009 from "acute propofol intoxication."
In a statement, Jackson's estate said: "The Estate of Michael Jackson and Epic Records are very excited about the partnership with Sony Mobile announced this morning at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona."We are thrilled with the use of the new solo Michael Jackson recording, "Slave To The Rhythm," which is featured in the 90 second online spot for the new Xperia Z2 phone."

i felt like that too at first - mainly because i have an idea of what that song should sound like (the tricky song). But it's kinda growing on me.

I too would like as much unedited MJ as i can get, - but at the same time i understand why the Estate is trying to appeal to non fans. It's essential to bring in new fans to keep the MJ business going. I kinda have to get used to that - when MJ was here, the fans was the nr. 1 priority, imo. Now that he's no longer here, we don't always have that nr. 1 priority as the Estate has to make money and make sure there's a business to handle for years to come.

I hope this new venture will be successful :)

The surprise aimed the public and normal fans tell me why ? i say the music they used was'nt Michael's style so nobodey expected the surprise of the new unheard vocals of Michael filling there ears also there is many ads using different remixes than the original but it is good deal with just snippet make money ;D

It that commercial helps to attract attention for the album and buyers, I celebrate that but don't pretend everyone has to like that remix, many of you will, many of us won't. If you like the 21st century sound and hot trends, each their own but for me most of it is crap, shallow and soulless. That's why many of us want Michael's vision.

Yeah it's growing on me too. I still think the instrumental is too weak, like not punchy enough, if you know what I mean. Yeah I understand they need to bring in new fans. Didn't stop me being pissed at first though :p I hope it's successful too. Hope they release the original demos though. I'm not sure if I'll buy it if it's just remixes.
