Xscape General Discussion

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Definitely agree. His ad libs add depth. And it completely dominates the 2010 mix.

My thoughts exactly. I like his ablibs and hope they make the final release or appear somewhere within the song.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Is anyone else excited at the thought of finally getting to hear Chicago 1945?

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

No. I've lightened up since I first found out and at the moment don't have a substantial problem with the album but six of the eight songs have been heard.

LNFSG - original demo leaked
SWLM - unleaked
Chicago - unleaked
APWNN - 2008 mix leaked (not that different from the original)
STRR - heard in some capacity
DYKWYCA - 2010 mix leaked (not that different from the original apparently)
BG - original recording leaked
Escape - 2002 mix leaked

Truthfully, there are only TWO songs on the whole compilation that have never been heard. Everything else has in some degree (remixed or original). I'm not complaining any at the moment, I'm just saying. And don't get technical and say "The demos are different!" Doesn't matter; we know what's going to happen. We know the lyrics. We know what Michael sings and how he songs it. Therefore, we've already heard it.

Again, I've lightened up so I'm not complaining. Just beig honest

Bottom line is -- and MJ fans don't always understand this -- there has to be DEGREES of enthusiasm. It can't always be either 0 or 10 on the scale of hype. The people who are acting like this is the most exciting project they've ever heard, well, think how much more hyped you would be if all 8 songs were completely new to us! As it is, this is a 2 on the hype scale -- for me. If that extra track turns out to be a real song and not some spoken-word interlude, it'll get to 3!

For me it's gotten up to about a three, I won't lie. Originally it was a 1 because I was furious but as I've said, I've lightened up. But I definitely agree about the degrees of excitement: as you said it's not always zero or ten. Some people are torn. And I would say I would be much more pleased if the bonus track was a new song. I saw a rumor that it might be Nite Line , and for the love of God it better not be.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I also thought Chicago seemed more likely to be track 2 and She Was Loving Me track 3, based on this description of track 2 and 3 from the Digital Spy review:
Jackson practically gave birth to the genre 'dirty-pop', and track two throws back to that period when you wouldn't see him on stage without bolshy bass and hip-pop beats. "She lied to you/ She lied to me," he proclaims in his trademark growl, while the following cut is a flowing '80s-tinged serenade with orchestral bursts and choral harmonies.
But who knows...

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I just read this article in The Sun(I know but a friend told me I should read this because it wasn't trashy)on the way home about Xscape it has been given a playback at the Bulgari Hotel in London last DJ Trevor Nelson introduced it and made some interesting and exciting comments:
He said:

"I'm here as a fan, just wanting you to know whether these songs are any good. There is nothing on here as good as anything on his mega-selling albums. But it's a big improvement on Michael, these songs are fully formed, not patchy ideas."

"Its also easy to spot which era they were in. There are disco tracks- where Michael's voice sounds youthful-suggesting they were part of Off The Wall sessions in the late 1970s. One in particular shares its DNA with Rock With You. There are also nods to Thriller and Bad, and 2 more electric tracks that would be right at home in the charts now".

Heres a pic of the article itself

What morons are these newspapers guys! Majority of the songs are from Invincible sessions!

1. Love Never Felt So Good (1983, Thriller era)
2. Chicago 1945 (1985, Bad era or 2000 Invincible era) - we'll see.
3. She Was Loving Me (1999, Invincible era)
4. A Place With No Name (1998, Invincible era)
5. Do You Know Where Your Children Are (1990, Dangerous era)
6. Slave To The Rhythm (1989, Dangerous era)
7. Blue Gangsta (1998, Invincible era)
8. Xscape (1999, Invincible era)

How ignorant they are! They automatically think if the song is awesome that is from Off The Wall or Thriller!

And there supposed to know that how? They aren't hardcore fans. It takes serious digging to actually find when certain songs were recorded. They're simply bouncing off of how the songs sounded. Let's not forget that fans thought STTR was from Invincible and called Tricky Stewart an idiot for saying it was recorded in 1989.

Wasn't "Nite Line" on the deluxe edition of "Thriller 25"?

No, that was For All Time + Got the Hots.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

According to the media reps who attended the listening party last night

1. Love Never Felt So Good
2. A Place With No Name
3. Slave To The Rhythm
4. She Was Lovin' Me
5. Chicago
6. Blue Gangster
7. Do You Know Where Your Children Are
8. Xscape

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

When do you guys think we will hear more about track-list and single?

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I can't believe that people find something to complain in every situation. Even if everything is as good as it can be.
Couldn't agree with you more!

None of the naysayers will keep me from rejoicing in the great song selection! Can't wait to finally hear the original demo to STTR!

I'm not saying that they should know the year. I'm saying it's wrong to just assume if the song is great that it has to be OTW or Thriller era!

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I'm curious what the reviews would have said if they had heard the real original songs... Would they still think it's Off the Wall era?

And there supposed to know that how? They aren't hardcore fans. It takes serious digging to actually find when certain songs were recorded.

And this is my problem with these releases: they are a conceptless bunch of everything thrown together, without clear logic, or dating, or indication where the song comes from. It shouldn't require "serious digging," - but it does. "Much too soon" on Michael was dated in 80s when in reality it was a HIStory session track... Now they think these songs are Off the Wall. For an iconic artist like Michael such utter confusion in the media reviews is embarrassing!

I wish they did one "work of last years" release in 2010, as was originally planned, and then made deluxe editions of MJ studio albums with extra tracks. Invincible could really benefit from being rediscovered together with fresh tracks like BG, APWNN, etc. - that are put in the context of the album. Ugh.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

The 17th song will most definitely be another remix, not a new song - otherwise they would have teased it to sell more of Deluxe. So don't get your hopes high.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Then I don't expect to see a single complaint about Bad 25 ever again. Because that release is incredible and every complaint I've seen thus far is nitpicking. You could say the same for this situation but this one is somewhat justifiable. Most fans expected the world from B25.

I'm not saying that they should know the year. I'm saying it's wrong to just assume if the song is great that it has to be OTW or Thriller era!

Ah, I see. Very true, but the media has always been close minded that way. Unfortunately.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I am curious about what track 17 will be.. could be Xscape Instrumental, Bonus Demo (Hollywood or What More Can i Give) what do you guys think it might be?

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Im still thinking that will be 2 demos of Chicago on deluxe version. That's why are 17 tracks and not 16.
Chicago 1985 demo (Michael Jackson, Steve Porcaro)
Chicago 2001 demo (Michael Jackson, Rodney Jerkins)

That would be great.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

The bonus track should be another new song thrown on as a surprise. They have enough to waste one more song.

That would also be VERY cool. Together with Al Capone & Smooth Criminal we'd have THE EVOLUTION.

I didn't even think about that. - Would be great!

But still a Bonus Song would be even better. - If it is NOT Nite Line.

I really hope it is indeed an extra all new song!! (NOT Nite Line !!!)

Shame on those morons not knowing & dismissing MJ's later & most superior work.

I really have to say I like this track-list A LOT !!! - 8 really strong songs! (6 at least, can't wait to hear the new songs!)

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Or it can be a bonus track from History era...if Joe Vogel said that "All eras are represented from Thriller to Invincible."
Where is the song from History era then?

sounds logical

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

There aren't many HIStory out takes left, if any. I highly doubt we'll be seeing anything from those sessions. But if we do. I would love to hear the demo of Innocent Man recorded with Buxer in 1994.

sounds logical

Not necessarily. Why would they release three versions of the same song on an album? It's a complete waste. And this space could easily be filled with another Invincible outtake. This is Our Time perhaps?
