WHY did they take the two original singles off iTunes?! Now MJ has fallen down the charts because they removed the original single that was at #5
For context, there were two versions of the singles. On 1st of May, the singles were first uploaded to iTunes. Each of the songs had their own 'album page'. About a day later, the tracklist for the Deluxe Edition was updated and eventually you could buy the two singles off the
Xscape album page directly. This ended up with 2 different copies of the song on iTunes.*
Right now you
can still buy it, but the singles no longer have their own dedicated album page. This is because those two versions of the single were removed. The MJ and JT single that had it's own album page was the one that was in the top ten. By removing that off iTunes, it basically just took that specific copy of the song off the charts.
Right now, MJ and JT's duet is at #42 on the iTunes charts. This is the version you can buy off the Xscape album page. It isn't bad, but certainly not as good as before.
If you're wondering why this happened, this is my guess: It is likely that Sony or The Estate or someone would've wanted everyone who was buying the song to notice that there was a new MJ album coming out. With the 'original singles' that had their own dedicated album page, if you hadn't heard of the new album and didn't look up the song online, you wouldn't have known that MJ had a new album. Now, if you click on the song, you're taken to Xscape's album page and viola, you're informed of MJ's new album.
They should've just done that in the first place (and I was thinking they would've. That's what most artists seem to do these days). I'm not
completely annoyed because of two reasons.
1: I am more interested in seeing the album itself do great
2: There is still a somewhat decent chance we can get it back up that high... of course chart numbers aren't the most important thing, but let's be honest, it was so nice seeing MJ shine up there in the top ten again
Might want to look into gifting the song or something, that way you can buy it again, help it on the charts and spread the love

(To do so, just click on the arrow next to the price (or 'Purchased') and select 'Gift this song').
*Don't worry though, they've 'linked' the songs together purchase-wise. So if you purchased the singles that had their own album page, they're considered purchased off the album itself. They were just considered different songs on the charts.
