Stargate made TWYMMF and LMA sounding awful, tribute or not! :puke: At least Michael didn't make AHWNN's music a weird blend/mash up.

Even without the leak, we would know Michael was covering AHWNN based on the lyrics. We cannot escape (Xscape) that. The song does not come with a disclaimer stating the similarity to TWYMMF/LMA is a tribute. The listener can make that assumption or not. I have no idea what they were thinking with the mix however; the fact that I am analyzing their actions instead of just enjoying the mix is an issue for me.

I don't know, I like the robotic Leave Me Alone melody and thwomping beat. Chicago seems like a "messier" song to me, although that one was still amazing and practically knocked me on the floor.

So many radically different opinions .., I wonder what the fans here, deciding to wait for the album to hear the songs, will think?

I actually feel quite bad that I don't like the demo now. I just took a listen and couldn't even get through it; it's lost all of its staying power (the little it had).

Michael pretty much copied A Horse With No Name, to be quite fair, and didn't do anything new or interesting with it as far as the verses are concerned. The Stargate version at the very least tries.

Foul play? I see nothing "foul play" in covering a song which is what Michael did here.

No, that's not what my comment suggested. I just think the demo had a lot more potential than this. That does not equal to saying I want the demo to be released as a single. It just just means that a lot better remix could have been made of it IMO.

Covering is a thing and sampling a guitar and a beat and writing your own lyrics is an another ;)

The APWNM of stargate's version is better and good but i Prefer the demo which has guitar riffs and rawness of mj vocals really take you to a place with no name.. :D

Anyway..Really Good and tough job for the Stargate to completely change it away..;D

Darkmed, when Epic/Sony try to comprehend the failure of Bad25 (their words), they came to fans for answers. Those answers produced Xscape. Sony executive are humans with views and sometimes they succeed and sometimes they fail just like fans (and other humans) do. They are not all-knowing.

Xscape is the best product offered but, like all things, it is not perfect. I personally do not understand why APWNN is on Xscape when CGYWOOM could have been there.

If I was L.A. Reid, APWNN would not be there at all. (I also would not have LNFSG on the cd three times.)

Question please: for those who feel this is single-worthy, what radio format would you choose?

I can picture Michael stomping his feet and getting into the beat in the beginning of the song. :D This kinda of galactic/video-game like sound reminds me of Moonwalker film for some reason. Hahaha, robo-MJ going to a place with no name (the part where he defeats the enemy and disappears like a star twinkling in the sky)!

Regardless of the new lyrics, it's still a cover and Michael never pretended to have written the song.

This isn't a cover; Michael completely rewrote the lyrics and added his own chorus. This is more of a reimagining, or revamped version.

But no one will take that into account. All you'll see is, "Hey... this sounds suspiciously like A Horse With No Name by America... matter of fact, it pretty much is! Hey, Michael Jackson copied that song!" And the last thing this album needs is that kind of criticism. Even though this is not true, do you think anyone will listen? Moreover, a common complaint I've heard from friends who heard the original leak was that it was TOO alike AHWNN. I'm sure they'll enjoy this.

This is one thing I never understood... why do people want to risk putting CGYWOOM on the album? No one has heard even one tenth of the song yet; as far as we know, it could actually be a very, very terrible song. We can't make a proper judgment on it with one six second extract.

Yeah, as if "criticism" by the likes of Roger Friedman matters one bit. Because he is the only one I have seen trying to say MJ tried to "rip off" America. (But he is hostile to the whole album for reasons we all know.) Rolling Stone and all others understood that this was a cover, only with new lyrics. Michael did not claim to have written the song, he asked America's permission etc.

CGYWOOM is not there cause mmm Jerkins can be a wierd guy sometimes next one he'll be the main producer so he's holding to his songs (my guess).

when i talked about fans i meant this condescending way to judge and claim to know what's best and what's not as if the estate/ sony or even mj himself owes them something

I reall Like APWNN contemporised version and i think it will do great. of course i Love the demo a little better but that doesn't mean this isnt a kick ass track. Its very innovative . Just because some like the demo better doesn't mean the new version is not good. Listen to it a few times. The more i hear it the better I Like it. .

The original song is on the Album for all to hear as well . So these new versions are not made to take the place of the original demos -They are just a contemporised tribute to them. We get both.

Yes, the original has America's music but it doesn't mean Michael himself had intended to release it! I'm glad we're gonna have the originals, we don't have to stick with th eproducers' vision if some of us think they f*cked the songs up.

If I am L.A. Reid, I would have heard CGYWOOM. I agree the snippet is all that was available but, that snippet to me was more attention grabbing that the full demo of APWNN. I do not believe everything Michael recorded should be released or dare I say, worthy of release. I like If You Don't Love Me but, I do not want to hear anyone contemporize it and place on a cd with the original demo. Not everything needs to be released for me.

Roger Friedman won't be the only one to make the claim. And yes, we all know the story behind the track. But do you think anyone will care enough to look it up? Do you think Michael's fans commenting on any negative articles will change anything? It never does. And the only reason you've yet to see a comment on the demo is because any reporting of the track focuses around the reworked version.

I just don't care for the original much anymore. But I can fully understand where you would, and I of course respect your opinion.

Yes, but let's keep in mind that a twenty-five second snippet of A Place With No Name had fans excited for four and a half years, only to be let down when the full thing surfaced. (Not all fans were disappointed, but I did see many sad faces on this and other boards.) When CGYWOOM finally leaks, for all we know, we could absolutely hate it. Until then, though, we really can't say anything definitively.

I understand. I felt at first you were suggesting fans should not decide what is a single and what is not however; fans were always looked at for such answers. Old clips of American Bandstand had the fans/dancers rate singles to see which would succeed or not. I am sure the Estate/Sony has a lurker(s) in this thread to see what is said after every song released. These discussions could very well decide which producer will work on the next cd.

Never said that they should have released the demo as a single, but I do think they messed up with this remix. The song had so much more potential than this. I'm a bit sad about this wasted opportunity.

I've only ever seen two comparisons to TWYMMF, one of which was positive, while the other was a bit ambivalent. Nothing in regards to LMA.
