Xscape General Discussion

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Unless he decided, for example, to give the song to Stargate and ask them to do something with it?

True. MJ wanted to work with these guys and who knows if we had gotten this song in this form.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

He wrote solely Do You Know Where Your Children Are & Loving You.

Co-wrote Love Never Felt So Good, Xscape. Not sure about A Place With No Name.

Didn't write Chicago, Slave To The Rhythm. Not Sure about Blue Gangsta.

Thanks a lot! It explains why 'Do You Know Where Your Children Are' is so good (based on the old version). Haven't heard Loving You yet.

but again I dont think its right to entirely change a song like they did with apwnn. sure mj MIGHT of changed it completely but we dont know that. all we know is that the last mix he worked on sounds nothing like the current song. To me if you are going to release unreleased songs make them sound similar to the way mj left them. dont completely change the structure of the song because doing it that way completely ignores his final vision and makes it somebody elses.

Damn....that surprises me. I'd really think he wrote Xscape, i can definitely see it written by him, but it's not? Wow. I remember being just as surrised when i found out he had not written Why you wanna trip on me and Man in the mirror. Those lyrics are soooo MJ.

Edit, too late ;-)

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

It irks me a little that they all seem to be written by other people when he is such a great songwriter (it annoyed me on Invincible also).

Completely agree.

I have nothing against MJ using outside songwriters, I mean I love MITM as much as the next fan, but I never understood why the man who wrote songs as diverse as Billie Jean, Beat It, Little Susie, Smooth Criminal, Who Is It and Earth Song relied so heavily on other songwriters on his last album.

Lack of inspiration perhaps??

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Just requested LNFSG on our biggest local radio station in Staffordshire, she played it and gave me a mention too, she said she loves the song!
People who work in offices etc have this radio station on..
Gotta get it to the top of charts and the only way to do that is too get it out there!

*** I've requested it on 4 seperate occassions and on each they've played it!

Keep Michaeling :)

Firstly I'm not biased because I haven't heard the demo version or whatever early version so I'm judging by what I hear first time. You are biased because your ears were greedy so you heard the song before:) It is your own fault that you are not happy with this version because you compare it to early version.

Secondly, you do know the saying from Mike
"I want the sound ears haven't heard etc......
This is what Rodney said 2000:
“Michael is such an inventor of sound,” Jerkins said. “I think he wanted some new stuff that the ears haven’t heard yet, that radio hasn’t heard yet, that people haven’t heard yet.”

So Stargate version you hear now, is exactly what Michael would have wanted you to hear:cheeky:
(if you get what I mean:))

That's an old fake.

@qbee: MALIBU (German fan club) among others received the album on Monday.
I'm glad it hasn't leaked yet.

okay its my own fault. doesn't mean I have to like it. I just think its wrong how they changed it so much thats all.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I don't believe MJ had finished APWN.

Not for the release, of course. But he finished the vocals and instrumentation. Of course he would work more on its productions. But it is a finished song. It's not a demo.

"A demo version, also called a sample version (sometimes shortened to demo or sample) of a song is one recorded for reference rather than for release. A demo is a way for a musician to approximate their ideas in a fixed format (tape, disc, or increasingly, digital audio files) and provide an example of those ideas to record labels, producers or other artists. Musicians often use demos as quick sketches to share with bandmates or arrangers or simply for personal reference during the songwriting process; in other cases a songwriter might make a demo to send to artists in hopes of having the song professionally recorded."

Re-read my post. He DID wrote Xscape. Co-wrote.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

A Question unrelated to Xscape, did Michael personally ever meet Ellen Degeneres?

It says that STTR is the first track on the album

I have my ideas...not for here though :)

I think that's why so many love Bad.

90% MJ written.

Always nice to have a couple of others chucked in there. Gone Too Soon on Dangerous for example is a lovely unexpected highlight at that juncture in the CD. But you don't want to become a guest vocalist on your own album. I think that's why I like 'You Are My Life' on Invincible - yes, it a bit sacharrine but you can tell the difference in it, it's pure MJ.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I think MJ had a lot of inspiration during Invincible to do projects outside of music (films, Marvel, his children).

Ultimately I believe he knew Invincible needed to be a 'mainstream hit' while also being innovative, which sadly is very difficult to do.

As we've now discovered Michael never stopped writing and recording, we've seen absolute masterpieces go unreleased. Xscape and WHE are examples that during the Invincible era that Michael was still capable of writing hit songs.

Maybe he was saving them for when his Sony contract was finished?

Just listened to APWNN.
Weather you like the production of it or not there's one thing thats clear......Michael's voice steals the show no matter what and that is what makes it sound so gooood!!!!!

At least people are not arguing over weather it's MJ's voice or not. Haha you know when it's Mike you really just know.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

If we didn't hear the leaked 2008 version we would all be blown away today and praise Stargate for their work. That's exactly why I hate the leaks and why they should STOP forever.

The original version is on the Deluxe for everyone to hear it and that is the concept I'm sure they'll keep for the future releases.

Give the song a chance. The more you listen to it, it becomes better and better.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Funny thing about APWN - at first yes, I was taken aback by the LMA riff, it really does sound cheap and out of place. BUT I really like the bass/drums and hopefully the LMA riff will somehow disapear in the bass after several listenings.

From the latest review:)
A Place with no Name
This one received the biggest sonic make over. The original (heard on the deluxe edition), thought to be recorded in the late eighties, is nearly identical to seventies rockers America’s A Horse with no Name. Swedish duo Stargate upped the beat and done away with the acoustic guitars to replace it with a funky wormlike synth-riff. The end result is something that is funky and modern.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Also Timbaland changed Chicago completely (same as Stargate did with APWNN) and everyone is loving it. Because no one heard the original version.

I think they are both amazing.
