Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Are we really discussing what color would be used for the next song ? Lmao, I don't even know why they're using mutli colors to represent each track.

why not? its a good way to let the time pass :D

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Not sure if this was pointed out, but at the end of APWNN, there are strings very similar to those in the STTR snippet in the commercial. Kind of cool how APWNN interludes into STTR...

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I only heard LNFSG solo and JT version and Chicago. APWNN and Loving You, I only heard a (bumper) snippet of 30 sec or so. I must say that I really like, actually love, what I heard.

Producers dared to modernize the songs, and they have been doing a good job IMHO. If they hadn't dared today we would have had "One Day In Your Life"esque songs instead of "2000 Watts"-esque ones.

On a side note, look at what MJ did, he sang "One Day In Your Life" and "2000 Watts"! Looool! That's so Michael. Who would ever believe that it is the same singer. Loool.

I would like to clear up some things, seriously.

First, I am not forcing my opinion of liking or not liking the songs on anyone.

Second, I was alarmingly scandalized when people compared the vocals on Chicago with the Cascio songs! Sorry for my French, but WTF!

Third, with all due respect to every single fan on this board there is something that we all are craving for: UNITY.

Actually, the reworked songs are not a mess as some have mentioned, WE are the mess. We are the unhappy ones. We are the whining ones. We are selfishly overcriticizing things that in reality shouldn't be criticized the way we are doing it.

I am not saying that criticism shouldn't be done, but please, let us not allow to become Roger Friedman alien species.

Here is the reality:

SHOT n°1: Before the coming of Internet, building the hype was different. Michael Jackson would release a single as a teaser then the whole album.

SHOT n°2: MJ would release short movies gradually, while the hype was still there. What was frustrating in the videos is that the versions on the videos would almost automatically be different from the album version. (= two versions of the same song), and there was no Internet for people to get quickly bored in one day by watching the video over and over again. People had to actually wait till they stumble on the video while watching the TV. (= the hype was not killed from the very start)

SHOT n°3: People would actually go out and buy the physical Maxi CD remixes and alternative versions because there was no Internet to as easily download as today. (= people would discover new versions/remixes and sometimes bonus songs approved by MJ)

SHOT n°4: The hype was built not only in among the fans' circles, but also in the clubs, hence the need for refreshed/remixed dancable-friendly versions of the songs.

Today with the Internet as the main tool for people to discover music and build the hype, we can't afford so many shots. We only have ONE DECISIVE SHOT. And this is what has been wisely done with Xscape:

SHOT n°1 (the only available shot): Association with a big corporation to boost the sales by advertizing MJ's new album via Xperia products. More precisely an album with songs which have already been made as dancable-friendly, easily accessible/leakable, with possibilities to present video projects. All this has to be presented extremely fast in order to get that hype from the very start, because there is only ONE SHOT which cannot be wasted nor miss the target.

In addition, in order to satisfy hard-core fans, the demos have been added to the release so that the fans don't get frustrated by the modernized versions.

Those parameters cannot be ignored, but as long as we live in the Internet era, we have to accept that the marketing and the way of building the hype has drastically changed.

Let us however not forget that MJ DID approve the remixes in the past, and he would most certainly approve them today. The only difference with the past is that those remixes are presented to the public differently, nevertheless in a manner that would not kill the hype. So, it would be ironic that the hype gets killed by the fans themselves only because they don't liek the remixes. It's fine not to like them, but instead of being vocal not liking them, give them a chance to be released as hits and let them hit the new public.

We need unity in this, not bickering and blindly criticizing those producers as if they were unaware of what they are doing. After the bad Cascio episode, I don't think they'll make a mistake to try to play tricks on us ever again. It's not in our interest, it's not in their interest.

Bumper I so much agree with you. I was thinking today about how negativity breeds negativity and the same with positivity. If you are somehow negative and start criticizing this and that, others who have never thought of it start thinking the same way and so you DO kill the hype. It is human psychology really.

Like you say WE NEED TO BE UNITED. This is the best opportunity. Let's stick by Michael- the more united we are the stronger. Let's be more thoughtful and open minded. I posted this on a previous post. But I really think the leaks are just the worst thing that could happen to an artist. You get so attached to this demo leak that when it officially comes out and it is modernized you just won't give it a chance and have a knee jerk reaction.

A color no one has ever seen!
An invisible color. At least invisible to those who are kinda incompetent. (just think of "the emperor's new clothes")

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

After hearing what they can do to these demos by contemporizing them - do you feel that they could of saved some of the demos from BAD25 like I'm so blue or Al Capone? Just think what they would sound like with a touch of Timberland on them!!?

How about Price of Fame and Abortion Papers? those songs are amazing but badly need a new contemporized sound. I'm so Blue is perfect imo.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I honestly think Dangerous 25 should be Xscape part 2. If possible create a full album of modernized Dangerous tracks with the other disc being the originals, package that with a Dangerous tour concert, sounds like a pretty good release to me!

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Sometimes I wish there was a fan working for the estate as a community manager, all major video game companies have these for the release if every major game. It allows the 'developers/producers/marketing/etc' to hear the ideas and freedback from the fans that really help the project.

For instance, each of these previews could have had a really cool album cover at zero expense to the estate or Sony. Throw together a fan contest that's determined off the number of Instagram likes and you're done. Free promotion and you have quality covers.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

was Loving You recorded on 07/28/1985?

Please no, there is nothing wrong with the Dangerous tracks and they don't need updating.

I can't even sleep I'm so excited for Xscape. :rollin:

For disc 2 they don't. For disc 1 they do.

New ad for Xscape (Australia)

"For all you greedy c*nts out there who can't get enough Michael f*cking Jackson, there's a f*cking deluxe edition!"

This is hilarious!

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

If anyone thinks of remixing Dangerous, they'll be legions of MJ fans who will hunt them down. Dangerous is by far MJ's best album of them all, and doesn't need any remixing. If anything, cut some intros and outros down a bit. Slap on a 2nd disc with unreleased and untouched music, and the 3rd disc be a DVD of a concert that ISN'T Bucharest.

Okay, prejudices aside, these are my current favorites:
(Of course looking forward to the original productions but this is my current ranking)

1. She Was Lovin' Me (aka "Chicago")
Those lyrics and vocals are simply insane! Curious for the demo. Damn(!!), the vocals are insomuch SICK.
I like Timbo's production but I'm looking forward hearing the original one.

2. A Place With No Name
I loved MJ's 2008 version from the very start. Putting Michael's 2008 production aside, it grows more and more on me. It keeps the riding style in it with that LMA-riffs. It's different but I love it. The song gains my favor from 1.28 mins. (1st chorus) onwards. It's different yet so similar. It resembles the original tempo and bar/measure. Once the horns are less prominent this mix is really grabbing its original feeling.

3. Loving You
Okay, we got a BAD ballad here. My second favorite MJ era right after HIStory. The vocals as always shine the light. I like Timbo's productions but for me it's the 3rd place so far.

4. Love Never Felt So Good
I relly think they did a solid or an outstanding job on this. I'd just preferred if Timbaland's production would've been the solo version other than the duet.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Does every unreleased song need to be ''updated''. There may be some timeless hidden gems in MJ's vault that don't need any ''updating''

For example let's say that Who Is It never made it to the Dangerous album and it was gonna be released on a future posthumous album. Do you think that would need to be updated?

As long as we get a disc with the originals, i'm in.

I think people defend what the Estate chooses. Michael is best composer, not these other guys.
Michaels not here though. So what is your suggestion for a new successful album? What would you ask the Estate to do ? Im interested in what you you think will be a successful project.
