This and the other post from Birchey where new technology is actually old fashioned smoke and mirrors.

At 43 on that video as the "fireworks" come out and the camera pans left, you can slightly see the Screen everything is projected on angle downwards.

How stupid some people are who make those videos.

The title: MICHAEL JACKSON 2014 HOLOGRAM WASN'T MICHAEL JACKSON

1. It wasn't a hologram
2. No one ever said it was Michael Jackson. Every normal person knows that MJ is dead and they said that he never performed the song live (meaning there is no footage to source the performance from).

You are forgetting the other problem:

That some MJ impersonator learned the choreography, dance it, pretended to be MJ. The whole thing just stinks. I don't know about Tupac hologram, it looks less real but maybe that one was actually made without any other fake people involved in it, I don't know too much about it.

Even if there was some “fake” person, he did some work and had good intentions. To create “holograms” or anything like that is not illegal;)

I guess we do know what Michael would of thought of the performance then, he saw it at Killer Thriller 2002. He loved it.

It doesn't really matter that much if it's a hologram or not - people just use the word to describe what the "performance" is. Even I use it when I chat online about it, I just refer to it as the "holo"

The "illusion" was labeled Michael Jackson and presented as Michael Jackson. It was presented as MJ live during the billboard, and it's titled Michael Jackson - STTR on MJ Vevo.

The only question here is whether it was an impersonator with CGI head or was it a character completely created on a computer. But the real point should be that it sucked, that it was badly done and that it should never happen again until they make it perfect (if that is possible). If not, just don't do it.

You'll find conflicting stories about Tupac hologram. If you ask company they don't really tell it's Tupac or not and even sometimes they say it's full CGI.

However several media reported that there was a body double and only the face was CGI (see this tweet: https://twitter.com/RayHughesLA/status/196118814314872832) .

Furthermore there's a video of "making of Tupac" which kinda confirm the body double claim (http://youtu.be/6G1XGH0aaes) if you watch the video they show what they did around :53 and 2:25 and 2:52, it shows they were only digitally making his face and adding that on an already existing body. So I tend to think there was probably a body double involved for Tupac one.

Would it be any difference if it wasn't an impersonator with CGI head, but a character completely created on a computer? It still wouldn't be Michael Jackson! Because he never shoot that footage and he never performed the song live.

And obviously Pac had voice double too because he interacts with Snoop Dog and with the public. He even says "What's up Coachella" or something like that. He says the word Coachella! Imagine if they had Jason Malachi or Eddie Cascio shouting "What's up Billboard Music Awards" pretending to be Michael.

I know I'm a little late coming to the party! Just watched the performance.
Loved the backdrop and costume.

Score card for the Estates planning of this...event:
Concept - PASS
Realism - FAIL
Execution - FAIL

Of course MJ would have loved to use new hologram technology in his stage shows, but this clearly was not strictly hologram tech. and it was not Michael.

Estate, have you learnt nothing?
When you use impersonators to mimic Michael Jackson’s voice or image, people are going to notice.
While using impersonators is (obscurely) a good way to boost popularity and sales, it does not bode well for a positive long term relationship with fans.
While the fan community is happy MJ is finally getting the respect and admiration he deserves from the general public, it hurts to be confronted with an imitation of someone you love.

Pac's one was taken from an old Coachella performance I believe. This was created solely from the mo-cap of an impersonator, with a CGI face placed on it.

AGREED!

As another poster said (I hope you recognize your words as I cannot find the original post) this was a visual Cascio track(s).

This was promoted as MJ the same way the tracks were when Michael was not a part of any the tracks or this stunt. For those saying Estate/Sony learned from those faux tracks, they did learn they could get away with a lie when it comes to the masses.

If this was touted as a tribute, I do not believe it would have gotten the comments it did that veer to the negative. However, if it was touted as a tribute, many would ask why so much monies would be spent on a parlor trick when they could have easily had the impersonator onstage live.

Nothing on earth like marketing.

"Coachella 2012 tickets sold out in hours. During Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's performance at the festival, a projection of deceased rapper Tupac Shakur came up from under the stage (a voice actor performed his introduction lines) and began performing "Hail Mary" and "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted"."

"a voice actor performed his introduction lines"

Imagine Eddie or Jason!! Just imagine!

Oh, it would have gotten the comments anyway, IMO.

I’m sorry but it sounds like we are to blame the Estate for the Visual MJ being not real MJ … ?

That's just the 3D model being demoed. I said "I believe" I don't research nor care for Pac, so apologies for being wrong but it didn't really need 2 posts to tell me that.

3D model, impersonator.. call it whatever you want. But the performance was not sourced from one of his previous performances. Just like Slave To The Rhythm. I don't know how they've done it but it not real footage of Pac performing.

"The image that appeared onstage via fancy (and ultra expensive) projection technology was NOT Michael Jackson at all. Instead, it was the holographic image of a Michael Jackson impersonator prancing around the stage in an attempt to replicate the iconic dance moves and mannerisms of the legendary artist. Sources involved in the creation of this performance, all of whom signed strict non-disclosure agreements and therefor must remain unnamed, have confirmed this for me."

Lol

Somebody who worked on the MJ experience told to something different, but I cannot tell his name as he too signed NDA:D

See how easy it is to spread nonsense all over the internet.

Bullcrap. Hahaha. Maybe he is right, but why lie?

The "3d Model" has white motion tracking markers all over his head. It was the body double before they applied the CGI face

To me they wanted to try something new and get people's attention for Michael and the album. If you like it good and if not that is good too. It did get everyone's attention so then it worked. I am kind of in the middle about it and I am not going to worry too much and enjoy the album.

Especially when they drop big hints *cough* Christopher Gasper

Curtesy of @SpeechlessMJJ16 on twitter. This is research into how they made the Audrey Hepburn advert using CGI, I found it an interesting read.
http://www.bustle.com/articles/2256...rn-dove-chocolate-commercial-lets-take-a-look

Seems pretty much everyone else who used this Tech, to promote something, has actually made their model look like the dead star they were trying to recreate at a very very high quality. The Bruce Lee and now this Audrey Hepburn ones alone stand out "CGI" head and shoulders above the MJ one. I feel not enough "tweaking" was done to the MJ one, and not many photo's/videos were used as reference, from certain still angles it looked amazing, but not many.

I don't disagree with you regarding how much improvement there could be for Michaels face, however to be fair Audrey Hepburn doesn't really do much in the ad, I would imagine recreating Michaels facial expressions whilst performing would be a huge, huge task.

Surely it is understood Robin Leach is to blame.

Negative or not it would have been seen as a tribute and not "MJ as you never seen him before." Is anyone going to claim they have seen MJ since he passed? So, why market this in such a manner? Simple; it was proven it worked before. As with the faux tracks masses could care less if it was Michael and some fans defended the actions of Estate/Sony. History has been repeated and taken one step further.
