Xscape General Discussion

Don't see why anyone would be outraged about leaks making the album, personally. They did enough to make them feel fresh enough to warrant at least a couple of listens, in my opinion.

I love the album completely. I am so surprised at how complete the demos were honestly and how good. I do have to say STTR original is a little slower than the re-mixed version. I have a feeling Michael would have wanted more punch like the new version. Just like the Dangerous demo needed more of a punch (according to Michael in his Dangerous deposition) and the album version def. did that.

His vocals just blow me away, unbelievable powerful vocals. And in the new version I hear them up front more. :chillin:

I understand. I had heard BG, DYKWYCA, STTR and I was perfectly fine with them being included. I wanted to hear them finished, polished. But, unfortunately there were many fans "outraged" about having them included. They calmed down afterwards, but there was def. drama here about it. All I say, if you do listen to the leaks don't be upset if they release them, it's their own fault they heard them. :doh:
 
I like the James Bond feel to the original BG as some said before, so I find myself switching between both versions. However, I have listened to the original more, even though it is a little slower. That is why I don't understand how anyone could take offense that the songs were contemporized--you have both versions there to choose from.

With some of those songs I just love how he stresses the last letter and makes it crisp. Sort of reminds me of my aunt making me speak "properly" when I was growing up. You had to say the ends of your words, especially the "t."

Anyone notice someone, I guess Timberland, mumbling in the background. It makes me chuckle.

I'm really enjoying both versions too. I am listening to STTR on repeat now and you hear Timbo yelling "slave" in the background- very cool.

Have you noticed the more you listen the more different sounds you pick up on the new versions? There's that little plucking sound in the second verse of Chicago that is really cool.

Also, I did notice how his vocals are noticeably more up front in the new version than the original. Soooo good - the whole experience. :chillin:
 
^^Oh he was saying slave. I just called it mumbling because I could not understand what was being said. I agree about the new treats that one hears after repeated listening.

I don't know about you guys, but while I listen to the original BG I have a whole James Bond scene in my head going on at the same time. A James Bond character like Craig is dashing through the Thames in a boat, scaling buildings, shooting people who are gangsters as he tries to get this sexy woman who is up to no good. I was on the train with my mind wandering off into this James Bond scenario, and then I checked myself, because I knew my eyes had gone quite wild and my body had tensed up, and I did not want the people sitting across from me wondering if I was some type of lunatic.

For STTR my mind runs off with a visual about a sexy woman too, who is dancing in inappropriate places. The funny thing is all these visuals are quite elaborate with cast, prompts, and dialog. This is what Michael's music does to me.
 
Petrarose, you're not the only one, especially with STTR, I have an elaborate scene playing in my head of what I think Michael would've done with this song choreography wise everytime I listen to the song.
 
I have been listening to the album everyday since I got it in my hand! The best since Invincible for me and I'm happy with the New and original versions!

Right on. I think Xscape is magnificent and love it. For some fans to say 4 or 5 more years for a new album no way! Way too long. Like it or not we only got 2 unheard songs. I don't want to here you didn't have to listen garb either. It's not very often you get a new Mj song. They did it on purpose for sure and they did a great job. 3 years tops for a new album of unheard songs there is plenty. They don't want to milk it too much people lose faith and interest. This album is doing well but for the quality of material it should be doing much better in terms of sales. Its far better than anything that has been out in a long time.
 
Okay, I just watched that you tube clip posted in the Xscape News Section about Quincy Jones and was a bit puzzled why he would say.... 'what am I gonna learn from Michael?' ....when asked about working with him. I know context is important, but I don't get why he would say something like that. He may not have wanted to learn to sing and dance but I'm sure there was more to Michael than that.

I hear him speak about Michael at times and he kinda comes off as a tad bit bitter towards him.
 
I think they made LNFSG prominent b/c it's very accessible whereas some of the other songs take time to understand and absorb and warm up to--they are more complex and need more attn. LNFSG--I love it, and his voice at the end.

I needed time to 'get into' this album and couldn't give a quick response. That's one thing that irritates me re critics b/c they don't give the album time--they make snap judgments.I guess they are expected to do that--to make a pronouncement right away, but it is not fair to the music.

I feel I am just getting to know this album and its many dimensions.

Q has been getting even more disrespectful, bitter, and nasty in his comments about Michael lately. I guess he is mad that they never just focus on His contributions but like to put Michael into the mix. He also has a case against the estate for money owed.

I wouldn't mind if the estate waits another 4 years before a new album. It seems to me that they are working on other Michael related projects to dazzle us, and they could showcase those while they work on a new album. Michael wanted to do other projects as well. I wonder what they have planned up their sleeves. All this is exciting to me.

Jamba I understand you. As I was saying before it took me hours to move from Slave to the next song. Sometimes you just want to sink into a groove and immerse yourself in it and I still have not seen the doc yet. This album has layers that you can peel off (I can hear Michael saying something like that and doing the hand gestures of peeling something off, like a banana.).

Just a tad. I agree, he's bitter--this is not the time to be saying things like that either. It's not needed at any time of course but especially now!:doh:
 
I'm surprised by my own reaction to LNFSG :D Before album release I was kind of sure I'm not going to like it because PA involvement in it, but since I heard it first time, that damn song doesn't leave me alone at all. It keeps playing in my head, so have no quiet moment at all. Some occasion when LNFSG happens to leave me head only to be replaced by others songs from the album:) I love LNFSG original because Michael's vocals are so lovely. He sounds like he just woke up (sleepy voice) and started singing. I personally cannot put songs in favourite order because it changes daily, some days I like APWNN, sometimes BG and so on :wild:
I have to say, Xscape song list is very well selected and works, because there is so many different type of songs so it suits to everybody (or at least should), and I'm clad that I didn't bother with leaked songs so I had no expectations how they should have sound.

Annita, if you read here, what do you think of the songs?

Me too. At first I was going to listen to the album in one sitting, but I never got to do that. After Slave I kept it on repeat, so it was hours later until I stopped the repeat and continued to the next song in the queue. Did this happen to anyone else? Also, I have not seen the documentaries yet. I am still on the songs. Today I left the house at 8:20am and left the original PWNN on, because on awaking I woke with it in my head. Then, when I came back to the house about middayish, I put on Slave, and I left it on repeat until around 3pm. These songs really stay in your head for sure.

QJ is too much of a narcissist and the fact Michael is such a genius is making him feel bad about himself so he has to degrade him. He's been doing it for almost 20 years now. Even when he praises Thriller, he doesn't give Michael any credit and make everyone but Michael sound like the most important people in the studio... you would think the cleaning staff had much more to do with Thriller than Michael had. I think he also spreads misinformation about their work, things that were proven as lies (and things that Bruce contradicted) but he keeps saying them cause it makes him look better and as the mastermind behind everything. His opinion on Xscape doesn't matter and I think people shouldn't even ask for his opinion. He's probably just mad Michael has great songs from the 80's and he can not take credit for them.

I read that Quincy thought that Thriller wouldn't sell more than 2 million copies.
And in an interview later, he said things like:
"Since the first time i heard it, i believed that we created an smash-album"
or something similar...

Quincy Jones is a hypocrite. He criticizes Xscape, but then he released this crap in 2010: http://val.fm/pretty-young-thing-feat-t-pain-robin-thicke-quincy-jones-mp3/

Although he did not personally produce it, but it was featured on his album Q Soul Bossa Nostra on which he was an executive producer. Not only he approved it, but he also defened it when MJ fans criticized the song.

These promotions are out of this world!! I have not seen anything like that in my area. Not even the Best Buy had a poster out. I have seen nothing on buses or walls. I wish I had that big poster next to that girl sitting on the chair. I like how they put all Michael's albums together in the Dubai store. It makes people look at his earlier works and buy them.

Exactly! His voice was/is always a great instrument- his beatboxing, his adlibs, those high notes, and in this release, goodness those vocals are truly amazing, and they drop some instruments in every song to allow you to listen to those great vocals. :D
 
well if we have to pick the next single it will def be STTR this song is huge just look at the Xperia ad everybody was asking for the song title and how they can get it
 
Are those official remixes available on Itunes? If I download them, does it help LNFSG in the charts or they're counting it separately?
