Xscape General Discussion

(CN) - A song on the posthumous Michael Jackson album "Xscape" ripped off a musician's 2002 song, according to a lawsuit in Federal Court in Los Angeles.Sidney Earl Swanson filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against MJJ Productions, Sony Music Holdings, songwriter Cory Rooney and producer Timbaland (whose real name is Timothy Zachery Mosley).
In May, MJJ released a posthumous compilation of unreleased songs by Michael Jackson, called "Xscape."The second track, "Chicago," was written by Cory Rooney and produced by several people, including Timbaland.Swanson claims "Chicago" rips off his 2002 song "Come Home On the Move."
"Defendants copied and incorporated substantial, original portions of the infringed composition in ["Chicago"]," the complaint states.
Swanson seeks damages and an injunction prohibiting the defendants from continuing to sell the song. He is represented by Louis Willacy in Oakland.

Chicago is written (and recorded) in 1999!!! He could have read the booklet first. Such a stupid ignorant man.

^^^ What, Michael wasn't sued! Thats a first.

Shouldn't Timba and Cory Rooney sue this man because obviously this man has copied Cory Rooney's music having coming up with his song only 2002 whereas Cory did his 1999:)

I tried to find his song from utube for comparison but no luck.

Well, it could be just another frivolous lawsuit, but let's wait for more details first. It is possible that he wrote the song before 1999 and simply did not get to release it until 2002. It could also be that he is referring to the 'contemporization' that Timbaland created. It certainly would not be the first time Timbaland is involved in a plagiarism case.

Didn't see this posted here yet (apologies if it did get posted already):

Hey there:

Fans outside the US, support your family and friends in the US in their efforts to get the their hometown selected and here’s your chance to play along in the “A Place With No Name” Contest!

To celebrate Michael Jackson’s “A Place With No Name” internationally, Tweet to get YOUR country flag to take over Michael Jackson’s socials! The country with the most tweets by November 3rd will get their flag featured as Michael Jackson’s Twitter header and Facebook's cover photo for 48 hours. To enter, tweet your vote with #MJAPWNN and insert your country abbreviation into #CountryCodeXNoName. (or #___NoName) Both hashtags have to be used in order to be counted! Good luck!

Here are some examples:
To enter United Kingdom use both #MJAPWNN and #UKNoName
To enter South Africa use both #MJAPWNN and #ZANoName
To enter Brazil use both #MJAPWNN and #BRNoName

Cheers,

I think they are suing Timbaland on the 2014 version as the instrumental may copy the song. Can anyone find the song?

That can't be true because he is suing Cory Rooney too, but he is not suing co-producer of 2014 version J-Roc.

No it could be. Doubtful that there will be an injuction, too extreme.

He's suing Timbaland, Rooney, MJJ productions, Sony and Does 1-10. To me this is about 2014 version composition.

Saw this twice tonight.

Guys,

Last night i saw an advert to the mobo's and Michaels *love never felt so good* was played is this a hint that xscape or even both xscape and LNFSG are up for Mobo? Or maybe its yet anohter award that Michael will break records with and they have to create one!

Hopefully this is just the start of the awards.

Terry

Can we make a thread with a poll to vote for third single? Like the one that was on Dam. Sh. site but now for the third single? I would do it, but I don't know how to add a poll.

I know it is too early for the third single, but it would be cool if the poll would be open for 2-3 weeks and then when closed, we can send it to MJ Online Team through members that have connections with them. And it gives them time to prepare for the single release - I'd say 10.11.2014.

So the songs for voting would of course be:

Chicago
Loving You
Slave To The Rhythm
Do You Know Where Your Children Are
Blue Gangsta
Xscape

You can vote only once and for one song only. It would be great if all members vote so that the poll is more representative. My vote would go to Chicago.

Mods, or members who know how, can someone make the thread like that with a poll? Thanks!

Reading this makes me feel better...

Love Never Felt So Good needs to become another vevo certified MJ short film...it's on 64+ million so keep watching!

It's been about 5 months since the release of Xscape and I wondered what everyone's thoughts are about it now. Do you think it's been a success? What are you expecting for the future around this project? And if you didn't like it at first donyou like it now or vice versa?

Do you really think that the 3rd single will make a huge difference? I gave up hope already

It may. If the single is successful that could bring worldwide album sales to 2 MIL and US album sales to 500,000 by the end of the year.

Like D.S. said in his article:

"Perhaps they’ll consider releasing the title track, ‘Xscape’, as the third single, by using the Rodney Jerkins-produced remix featuring a rap verse from the legendary Tupac Shakur. The Jackson/Tupac version of ‘Xscape’ was played at a New York listening session earlier this year and received rave reviews from those who heard it. The King of Pop and the King of Rap resurrected together in a 2014 political and social anthem certainly makes for not only a juicy headline, but a captivating listening experience. You can bet your bottom dollar that music fans all around the world would crawl out of their caves to give the track a listen. And best of all; it’s not featured on the ‘XSCAPE’ album – meaning IF they were to release it, it’d HAVE to be a stand-alone single that NO consumer already owns, eliminating ALL the problems they created for themselves with the “A Place With No Name” release."
