Lets Discuss BAD concerts footage and what may have been shot on film ?

And here is my email response from Mr. Pecchi, the video director from the first legs of the tour. The one that Michael wrote the handwritten note to telling him to do his best to capture the shows on film.

Kerry, hello. We started out in Tokyo with 1 beta cam and soon purchase a 35mm BL 4 and a 16mm camera. Eventually our crew grew to 5 and we shot miles of color neg at shows in Tokyo and Osaka. Moved on to Australia and more shows. I was his DP/director until we came back to the US to regroup for Europe. Several changes happened and I quit the show. A few of our original crew continued, but I departed. Miles of 35 neg, shows, interviews, moments with MJ, some great stuff. Have now idea where it is now. Rather certain entire UK shows were filmed. Later..bp"

Someone said that the estate found the film reels and digitized the after the Bad 25 release. The digitisation of michael's video catelogue was mentioned in the 2011 estate accounting. So they may have found the footage by now.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Safechuck is in all Bad Tour shows. Didn't he only appear on stage in LA?

he appeared in all second leg shows i believe, it's stupid to request him get edited out.. it should be left unaltered.. fans know the truth.

Well now that I think about it, Stabchuck didn't appear on every show when Michael was performing 2nd half of "Bad" during the 2nd leg of the Bad Tour. Like I notice when I watched the 2nd show of Rome (May 24th), he and the other kids weren't on stage with Michael. So I don't think he appears on the early European shows I believe. Plus I agree it isn't a good idea to have Stabchuck edited out and we do know that he's now recently backstabbing Michael and facing karma. If there were any shows that Stabchuck wasn't on stage with Michael available for future release for Blu-Ray, my suggestion which is the one show I really wanted is Rome since I believe he may not be in it. I may not be positive, but it's just my guess.

So does this mean that full first and second leg shows were filmed? This would explain the BAD company report being shot on film ! That could of been the 60 minutes crew also but it seems this confirms that several shows were shot on film. Can we get more info on the digitization of the video archive? If they really did find the film they shot years ago, we may have hope.

Richard Lecocq told me that everything was digitized whilst Michael was alive, in living with Michael Jackson he was still watching film reels in his theater though so who knows? I think when it was said that the digitizing process was underway in late I do2012, that may have been when they started cataloging/digitizing everything! also, it was stated in an article that the estate spent 4 million on archiving Michael's unreleased material... i do hope we start seeing Blu-Ray's of all the tours.... including both legs of the BAD Tour, plus the short films etc. BAD Tour Blu-Ray Second leg is currently at the top of my list though. Fingers crossed for the near future..

Re: Lets investigate what BAD concerts may have been shot on film ?

Zakk, yes, 'some' film reels exist, but not nearly as many as you would like to believe. Aintree was shot on film but apparently the results were very disappointing due to weather, camera positions and apparently some poor person getting serious emergency medical treatment at the foot of the stage for the first few songs - this is how Aintree was described to me by the film production manager (who worked for Patrick Kelly) who I spoke to several times. Notwithstanding this, she admits that it is indeed possible her memory is hazy after so many years.

Wembley was NOT shot in entirety on film.

Sony never ever had of the PK film in their archives.

patrick Kelly turned over all the bad tour materials to MJ vaults at the end of the bad tour where they remain however they were not identified nor catalogued until last year. Patrick has retired and wishes to have nothing to do with the entertainment industry. Tracking him down and persuading him to speak was almost surreal in difficulty.

Nvertheless, given the materials that were to hand, the overall quality of BAD25 leaves much to be desired.

The re-edit of Another Part of Me???? The sync is just awful, appalling amateurish slapdash poorest quality work.

...and don't get me started on the 5.1 or stereo mixes....

Michael never in his life released anything less than superb work of the highest artistic AND technical quality. Work that stands the test of time as a touchstone of integrity.

The problem however is that given the mediocre sales of 'Michael' and given the unbelievably terrible sales of BAD 25 it's more likely that hell will freeze over before another Bad era concert is released.

Really?!??1 Like, are we forgetting Bucharest, or the awful mixes of the SE and Thriller 25. Not to mention the latters so called "bonus material" Michael made just as many bad choices as the rest of us do. Please remove his pedestal, he was still human.

Yeah, not everything Michael was a part of was gold.
Bucharest final edit was an obvious one.
I love crowd shots to show the magnitude of a stadium show, but it was tooo much.

Yokohama was perfect. It could have maybe benefitted from better lit crowd shots (as most are dark) and a bit more, actually, in certain spots.
But I suspect he was too busy to be concerned with painstakingly giving edit notes on that one.

Is it to just re-word one of the questions he's been emailed about dozens of times already?

He has his own website. I think you can find the email from there.

I hope Estate has Bad Tour Blu-Ray in works. :)

Absolutely agree, it's the tour that defines Michael's career! nothing will come close to the energy, the vocal power or slick gliding again.. it needs to be seen in High Resolution

It should be released in cinemas

i don't want Minneapolis concert because there is no the way you make me feel in that final concert from USA in May, man in the mirror was with bad jacket.

the best option on film is New York March 3 there is a little snippet on APOM Bad25 so i i hope if exists the full concert. London 14,15,23, or Liverpool is a good option too, but i like more the concerts to February - May from USA, all live except Man in the mirror.

We need a concert from USA with more vocals 100% Live in Film cameras 35mm .

I would be fine with any of them because it would be a dream come true just to see full Bad Tour concert in HD quality.

either a full 1987 show with the additional song's from the second leg or the other way round.. or a montage from all three years? imagine that.. with footage from Michael around the world that was shot during his time in Europe & Japan

Montage would be great if it wouldn't be possible to release a full concert but not otherwise. It just feels better to watch a full concert.

No, the best option, in my opinion, is:

1 Concert from 1987 in Film, Tokyo Red Shirt maybe.

2 Concert from 1988 in Film, New York i hope, or European Concert, Liverpool, or London 23,14,15, with the full set list please, this is very important.

I wish see Man in the mirror with Blue shirt.

You can see footage from one other song too in Moonwalker

At 0:08. Could that be Bad? If you have the Blu-Ray version you can see it in amazing quality. :)

Definitely loos like 'BAD' to me! plus i spoke with Nocturne Prod. and they told me Michael had 3 english crews following him 24/7 shooting film.. Aintree is basically confirmed, Cork is very likely.. as is possibly July 14th & 23rd at Wembley..

Yep 0:08 is from Bad but there is another scene from 0:13 that is from MITM when he's jumping. I have a strong feeling most of these are from Minneapolis, but it could be any concert tbh.

There is some great material on Moonwalker relating to HD Bad Tour Shows. I love this clip of Michael doing the 2nd spin on Man In The Mirror from Minneapolis, which they ommitted in favor of the spin from Wembley with the blue shirt

On the 3:15 mark

No, it's definitely from 'BAD'! it's easy to tell.

I'm sure I have seen amateur footage where he does that exact move during Billie Jean. But, the mic placement suggests Bad. Honestly it could be either based on the trousers and socks alone.

**UPDATE** Yeah ok I bow to your knowledge. It is Bad. Can tell exactly what part too, lol

Minneapolis looks like it could have been shot entirely on film, there are many pro & very high quality snippets from that show.. unfortunately he didn't perform TWYMMF.. but the audio is on Multitracks.. btw, before you guys call me deluded.. the MITM footage from Around the world is the same as what is featured in Moonwalker.. it is uncropped 16mm film footage transferred to BetaMax then to VHS.. all the snippets from Around the world look like the exact same quality as each other. Especially 'Beat It'/'Billie Jean'/'Thriller' & 'Smooth Criminal'

Those clips in the Around the World are jumbotron footage. The concert is the same but the camera angle is different:

Someone has posted this before but I didn't find the post so I took new screenshots. :)

They did have more than one camera, shooting film.

Yes they did but from those only the Moonwalker screenshots are from film cameras. For example the camera in the first low quality pic is the crane camera that was on every Bad Tour concert shooting for the Jumbotrons.
