Xscape General Discussion

True. I guess we're all like that having perceptions. We all make mistakes but we also have opinions I guess. I wasn't mocking your opinion, I just laughed at the past pages in the thread and how we all were speculating.

What I noticed is many of the posters who labelled others as whiners and being negative before the release of Xscape are, for the most part, the same posters who whined and were quite negative about the possible theatrical release of the History tour's opening night.

2016 is the 25th Anniversary of Dangerous. I think we can be pretty certain that there'll be a 25th anniversary edition for Dangerous :p

I'm pretty certain that there won't be, especially after Bad 25 poor sales.

I think Dangerous 25 is a given as it is basically a rerelease with a few demos / remixes on it. Its an easy sell to the fans and The Estate / Sony will have an idea what is the minimum budget needed for the maximum reward. After the release of Michael and Xscape I would imagine they also know rough sales volumes for future releases wholly unreleased music and will promote them accordingly. To be honest I'm still expecting an Off The Wall special edition this year. Then Dangerous 25 next year along with a 3D concert that I would imagine will have a limited release in cinemas. This could be promoted in the same way TII was with advanced hype that it will be the last chance to see Michael in concert on the big screen and will only be on for one week. Hopefully this will then snowball as people buy tickets in advance and end up getting an extended run.

Not everything should be about big sales though.

Absolutely. But then it should be marketed differently. Sony had high expectations for Bad 25 and they were very disappointed with its sales.

Collectors label is essential in my opinion and through that label they could release projects that are not made for big sales, but all 10 Sony projects are meant to be big and earn money.

Months after first hearing it, this is still my jam. Absolutely incredible.

when I got in the car today the radio station was talking about the I heart radio show last year and how Usher danced to LNFSG.

People were calling in about how great it was and how great the song was.
It was so lovely to be driving along and listening to all these compliments about Michael. Just lovely.

LNFSG is an amazing song.

You can't help but smile when you hear it. - It's such a happy and sweet song.

This may be a very dumb question. But how much do the estate spend on promotion and how much can they spend? Isn't the estate worth a billion?

The whole album still sounds great to me, and I think I'm pretty hard to please!

Aside from slightly messing up DYKWYCA the whole CD sounds great to me and has given me 3 or 4 new songs that easily sit in my top 40 MJ.

I think record company (Epic Records in this case) is responsible for promotion, not Estate.

I can't believe Xscape wasn't released as a single, it feels like such a wasted opportunity. The song could have been a smash hit single

Promotion is done in conjunction with the Estate. Sony funds it with a promotional budget and of course direction. Estate complies with images of Michael (when necessary) and supportive promotion such as interviews with Branca and social media such as FB, MJ.com (both are co-owned by Sony/Estate I believe).

McClain's version is my personal favorite - he captures the essence of the song beautifully.

Of course Michael's image is owned by his Estate. But, like you said record company (Epic Records in this case) funds the promotion with promotional budget. That is what I said. It's like that with every other artist and it was like that with Sony while MJ was alive. Of course MJ always invested his own money in additional promotion when record company refused to pay (Thriller, Ghosts...), but I doubt that the Estate will do anything like that. But they did pay for the "hologram". I think MJ.com is owned by Sony.

OnirMJ, you are not incorrect but, neither am I. The Estate works in conjunction with Sony as I said. Both Sony and the Estate own MJ.com. Epic is owned by Sony as well.

I know that. I just said that Epic Records (part of Sony Music) is paying for the promotion and not the Estate (TV ads, billboards, internet advertisments, TV shows, music videos and stuff like that). Estate did pay for "hologram" which was part of the Xscape promotion though.

OnirMJ, no worries. I am only addressing your original statement that the Estate is not responsible for promotion.

They are responsible for portions of promotion and you showed they also have financial responsibilities for such promotion at times.

I actually still hear LNFSG often on radios and in shops. - But, most of the times it's the duet version. - Still great though.

Xscape Re-certified as Platinum in Spain! #Update #MichaelJackson

Any song from Xscape nominated for the remixer category (which is the appropriate category) would have been a guaranteed win in my view.

All Of Me (Tiesto's Birthday Treatment Remix)
Tijs Michiel Verwest, remixer (John Legend)
Label: Columbia Records

Falling Out (Ming Remix)
MING, remixer (Crossfingers Featuring Danny Losito)
Label: Big Alliance Records

Pompeii (Audien Remix)
Audien, remixer (Bastille)
Label: Virgin Records

The Rising (Eddie Amador Remix)
Eddie Amador, remixer (Five Knives)
Label: Red Bull Records

Smile (Kaskade Edit)
Ryan Raddon, remixer (Galantis)
Track from: Galantis EP
Label: Big Beat Records

Waves (Robin Schulz Remix)
Robin Schulz, remixer (Mr. Probz)
Label: RCA Records/Ultra Records/Sony Music

Would have been grand to see Timbaland nominated for producer of the year.

As expected, Verwest won. While I am a fan of his work on Legend's single, Jerkins' Xscape is far better. At least Jerkins won for his work with Sam Smith.

i knew there was a reason i moved there!

Okay? That's great! Considering Michael is generally flooding the market recently I'm surprised he's holding up this well.
