In What Order Do You Rate MJ's Solo Albums

Off The Wall is the best album he ever did, MJ said so himself and also said the recording of that album and Thriller were the happiest moments of his solo career
I know he said that the recording of OTW and Thriller were the happiest moments of his solo career in the Chris Connolly interview for his 50th birthday-but I can't imagine Michael saying one of his albums were better than the others.

1. Dangerous
2. Bad
3. History / BOTD
4. Thriller
5. Off The Wall
6. Invincible

MJ said his very first adult solo album was his best

Again?? Hahaha. And again with no source! HE DID NOT SAY THAT. Maybe he meant that in 1979, but the whole world meant that back then! Should he have said in 1979 that Ben is his best album? He would never say something like that post 1982 and you said it yourself. And you made up your own reason why.

and more than likely when this Spike lee documentary about OTW premieres, I'm sure that it will be revealed at some point this is what MJ said himself

Yes, in 1979!

1.Invincible/Off The Wall
2.Dangerous
3.Bad

Yes, in 1979!

again, no need to make up anything

first you said HE DID NOT SAY THAT, but follow by saying "Maybe" he did in 1979

since OTW isn't your favorite album, then you're more unlikely to believe it

but if word came out that he said one of his later albums were his best that was one of your favorites u probably be more prone to beleive it

everyone has a favorite in something they do, rather it's a favorite moment, favorite outfit, favorite food and the like, and that favorite can last for years or decades long after it has happened....

Exactly. It's your favourite album. Not Michael's. Unless you provide a source.

I said maybe he meant that in 1979, but the whole world did, so what? So that year (if he said it or even meant it) is completely irrelevant. After that you said it yourself that he didn't say anything similar until 2008. Ok, then provide a source for when he said that in 2008. I'm eagerly waiting.

1. Dangerous
2. Invincible
3. HIStory
4. Bad
5. Blood on the Dancefloor
6. Off the Wall
7. Thriller

Michael talking about new albums (from 4:00) and feeling excited "as if this is the first one" :)

And even IF Off The Wall was his favourite album it doesn't mean that we all have to agree with him

I didn't say that......

I don't even see why this is an issue

out of his six adult solo albums, one of them MJ felt was his best,

we all have favorites from things/events/moments we have experienced in life.....

why would this be such an issue for.......

if he said Invincible was his best, would there be as much debate about it

The issue is not with MJ saying his fave album was OTW IF he indeed said that. FYI, OTW is in my Top 2 or 3 fave albums as well, depending on mood. The issue is with you stating such a thing without any evidence to back up this claim that MJ said that out of all of his adult albums OTW was his favourite and best.

I don't know how you cannot see the flawed logic in saying that he said that in 1979, yet you equate it to MJ meaning that out of all of his adult albums OTW is the best. In 1979 Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, HIStory and Invincible did not exist yet, so of course OTW was his favourite at the time. This does not mean he thought the same after all his albums were released.

So again, can you provide a source where MJ says in the 90s or 2000s that his best album was OTW?

And even IF Off The Wall was his favourite album it doesn't mean that we all have to agree with him

Exactly. But the point is that you can't say something like that without any source. If MJ never talked about it (apparently not even in 1979 because he still didn't provide a source for that information!), then no one can really know and all we can do is speculate. My opinion is that he didn't think Off The Wall was his best album at any point after Thriller was released.

Maybe, but we'll never know which one because HE NEVER SAID SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

"if he said", but HE DID NOT.

you THINK he didn't ever say anything like that

earlier you say "maybe" he did.........thats' two different responses about the same subject

I really don't understand why this is an issue

the man said himself that the recording of OTW and THRILLER were the happiest moments of his solo career, and those recordings happened in 1979 and 1982, over 30-35 years ago, so even w/the recordings of Bad (87), Dangerous (91), History (95), and Invincible (01)...he said the first two albums he recorded were his happiest moments

Do you realize that saying that the recording of OTW was his happiest period does not equal to saying that it was his best album?

Ooh, are you changing your story now? That is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT! Of course those were his happiest moments, he was young, healthy, without any troubles and worries, without any pressure. But what that has to do with album quality?? The point is that he never said that Off The Wall is his best album. I said maybe he did say that in 1979 but given the fact that you still haven't provide us with a source, I can now freely say that he never said that.

My belief is that in 1979-1982 he thought his best album is Off The Wall.
In 1982-1987 he thought his best album is Thriller.
In 1987-1991 he thought his best album is Bad.
In 1991-1995 he thought his best album is Dangerous.
In 1995-2001 he thought his best album is HIStory with BOTDF.
In 2001-2009 he thought his best album is Invincible and his new unreleased album.

But that is just my belief (like yours is that he thought his best album is Off The Wall). That is my belief because that make sense. If he was that satisfied with Off The Wall he would never evolve as a musician/composer/singer, he would never change his producer.. he would basically just keep doing the same R&B/disco/soul/pop.

BUT as he never discussed this subject publicly we can only guess and have our own beliefs.

Do you realize that saying that the recording of OTW was his happiest period does not equal to saying that it was his best album?

I never said it was the same/equal

I really don't see why this is a big issue for

everyone has a favorite or felt something they done was their best out of anything else that has preceded or followed

his entire musical message as an adult solo artist, it all started from Off The Wall, he expanded on that message for each and every album that followed.....and considering how terrible R&B music is now, if OTW was released in 2015 instead of 1979, I'm confident it will sell more now than it actually did then......

from an esoterical approach, w/out his fans from the 90s to the present realizing, after the Bad album, he always tried to regain the same level of authenticity he created with OTW, this is why he started working with Teddy Riley for the Dangerous Album, and Rodney Jerkins with Invincible, and the Dallas Austins, the Jimmy Jam and TErry Lewis's, the R. Kelly's of the world for the History album.....

He made allot of great music throughout his solo career, but it shouldn't be a dispute to suggest that the artist himself considered one of his albums his best....

I really don't understand why this is such a issue for.....

outside of MJ, there is a ton of artists who best album was their very first and still had longstanding careers

how can u freely say that he never said that when u just said that "maybe" he said it.....

No2 Invincible blue cover
No3 Invincible orange cover
No4 Invincible green cover
No5 Invincible red cover
No6 Thriller

One thing is to say that you think that it is his best album (like I think it is Dangerous) and another thing is to say that HE SAID and thought that his best album was Off The Wall. HUGE difference.

Bad
HIStory/BOTDF
Thriller
Dangerous
Off The Wall
Invincible

He never said it after Thriller was released. He may have said it before Thriller was released but we'll never know because obviously you don't have any source and you just made that up.

It's all about your personal taste. You can say that it is your favourite album and that you think it is his best but you can not say that he said it is his best ever just to prove your point and make your opinion more valuable. Do you get it now?
