Janet Jackson Announces "UNBREAKABLE WORLD TOUR"!!!

Errr I don't know how to take that post, I wasn't going to say anything in this thread until I read that, are you saying that we are jealous that your idol can still create music and ours can't? I really hope that's not what you meant.
----------
.

Glad to see I was not the only one who picked up on those choice of words.

Idol is not a word I'd use to describe either Michael or Janet.

Michael is my hero.

Janet is someone I admire...for the most part. Appreciate would be a better word.

I got my tickets for her show today. I'm in section 321 row 1 and tickets were $110 each with taxes. They cut the venue into less than half of what is usually is to make it more personal I'm assuming, so I'm pretty impressed with the pricing to be honest. Last time she came I paid $200 (albeit a very different venue.) Taylor Swift is here August 1st, and her tickets for the same seats and venue are $217.50 though, and they're using the entire arena. $$$ :p

Well when they cut the venue they can not sell it out.

That's true, but there are far better venues she could have chosen (like she did last time.) I'm assuming the plan is to sell the half venue tickets, and that way, if there is still demand, she can open the rest of the venue for ticket sales. It's kind of a sad state of affairs when you have to play the game that way, not knowing if a big name like Janet Jackson can sell out our cruddy excuse for a main venue which has absolutely terrible acoustics ... :bored2:

Good lord these ticket prices are insane! I remember I paid like $200+ for when I saw her in Chicago on Number Ones.
4R, Row B, #416

My TII ticket was $110 (£85) and in A2! (I bought 3 tickets altogether, with shipping and afterparty tix was like $420)
Row U, Seat 35

Sheeeeeshhh that's just crazy.

I paid £85.75 each for my TII tickets and I was in B1 Row K Seats 12 and 13. Annnnnnd now I'm just super bummed I never got to see that show. Bollocks. I mean, granted, that was 6 years ago? In my honest opinion I think ticket prices nowadays are effin' ridiculous. Plus he was doing 50 shows in one venue. It's interesting though because the artists don't actually choose the ticket prices, the promoters do, and all I remember clearly is the Viagogo problem they were having with them reselling tickets for extraordinarily high prices, and AEG buying certain VIP packages in (I believe) the first couple of rows, but then jacking the prices and not being able to sell them, or something to that effect? I think they were trying to sell them for like $1200 or something crazy? I can't quite remember it all, and this was before he died. I was never so stoked that I had sat up all night and had a full fledged anxiety attack rushing the site when they went on sale to get mine and then flipping my d*mn lid when I did :p

MAaaaaan I feel you. I was 27 days away. The night before, my friends and I had gotten together to finalize our itinerary and go over everything :( we even had a group hug and a ~special moment~ because we were so excited and it was like, our #1 dream/bucket list. But that's another thread for another day, i.e. next week.

Yeah I remember the thriller packages! $1200 is about right. Lordy. Some floor tickets in my section were going for thousands and thousands of dollars after everything sold out. It was crazy.
I didn't know the promoters set the prices. That's interesting. I remember that there was some crap between MJ and the brothers for MSG because he thought the prices were too high and same thing happened on Triumph or Victory tour?

The could have easily sold those seats for $500 (when i bought mine it was just for the original 10 shows on pre-sale) - so I wonder if Michael put his foot down. I was really surprised how affordable they were and kept having to double check that I was actually in the dead center on the floor lol.

Omg I was up for daaays too. Omg. I had a presale code, and everything. I about had a heart attack when at 1:58 am they tested the system (I was in Central) and so TM crashed for like 2 sconds and I FLIPPED - I was refreshing the page constantly with my code input so I could select and go. It was so. intense. And I was just sttin' all by my lonesome in my apartment.

And like 5 minutes later TM started to lag and crash lol MIKE BROKE THE INTERNETZ

...back to Janet...lol

As far as I know that's how it works? I do remember hearing this about the brothers, but I also never heard anything that wasn't "we need money" related with them then and now... so ... I'd like to think that one of the reasons Mike could justify such high prices for tickets was by giving all his proceeds to charity. That way at least if you were a fan of his, you could feel better about spending the price of your rent on something other than just Michael Jackson :p Haha.

I did the same thing. My first reaction was "these are so cheap, they must be fake." Haha. I think it's a little bittersweet because people sort of knew he would sell shows, and they could have jacked the prices, but I don't think they really had faith in how much call there would be / how he would sell, so that's why they started with 10 shows at decent prices. Proved em' wrong though. I always sort of half chuckle / half spit when I hear the business people behind TII and their shocked reaction to how fast he sold and how big the queue still was. Well. Yes. He's Michael Jackson. You know. Michael. Jackson. Sort of a big deal.

Same situation as me. Sitting in my room with my ghetto computer hoping to high Hades that it wouldn't crash on me (laptop and site.) I think I clicked two or three times before actually getting seats and I kid you not, I'm pretty sure I was on my toes on my bed clicking to get those tickets. Then I read about 1 minute after I bought them that the whole site had crashed. Haha.

Annnnnnd, back to you Janet ;)

I'm taking my 11 year old boy with me. This will be my third time seeing Janet.

RUMOR ALERT: at this moment I have on some pop entertainment show on TV and the crawl said that Janet will allegedly start her comeback at this weekends BET awards.

No source. Probably guessing since the single had a sneak peek today.

^^ok looks like you are right. Official announcement made on GMA this morning.
Showed a film of highlights of her life and career.

I’m curious as to why at her age she wants to return to touring? She is supposedly rich from her former career and she’s married to a billionaire. I know Tina Turner and Madonna did it but they don’t have billionaire husbands and they both have children. Is Janet that desperate for the spotlight again or is there trouble in paradise? Whatever her reasons it will take more than her old act to put her on top again. She doesn’t have her brother’s genius, magic or showmanship.

It will also take more than naming her songs the same names as her mega superstar brother.

I'm sorry but this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Madonna and Tina Turner have more than enough money to live a life of luxury with no need to your or release anything, same goes for Janet. Did it never cross your mind that maybe it is done for the love of music and the fans she has? Just as MJ did.

Really the dislike for Janet makes our fan community look very childish at times, as many others in the forum who have chosen to not support Janet any longer why don't you just avoid the threads dedicated to her instead of throwing in the childish remarks. If Janet was really desperate for the spotlight she probably would have done a Madonna and not only recruited young artists a la Nicki Minaj, Beyonce and the rest of them, and made a song that fit current charting trends... She did non of that.

Also michael himself has a few titles of songs that have been used before... As mentioned Heartbreak Hotel by Elvis, Mariah Carey has a song titled Butterfly (not entirely the same but close enough), Joni Mitchell along with many others have songs entitled Speechless, I'm sure if I wanted to nit pick enough I could find more... Does that take away from Michaels genius? No. It's a coincidence. Please stop making the fan community come across as petty and childish, it's not a good look.
My philosophy is if you don't like it, don't click on the thread... Simples.
Much peace.

Starts at the end of August, huh? Thats cool.

I feel very sure of Janet's ability to go out absolutely slam dunk this tour.

You go girl!!

I am really curious if all these people who mock now Janet because of the ‘Unbreakable’ word did the exact same thing with her ‘Rock With U’ song in 2008 (supposing they are aware of her songs)…

I definitely didn't "mock" her-but I did wonder why she named it that at the time, when it was one of Michael's most famous songs. Much more so than "Unbreakable."

But lots of songs are named the same thing-"Cry Me a River" drives me a little crazy, because it was quite the famous song back in the 50's and on-so, it's really not a big deal, I guess. When that came out, I really got upset with Epic for insisting "Heartbreak Hotel" change its name.

It's just unusual when it's a song from your own family, maybe. And you don't want to be seen riding their coat tails.

For me, it is not a big deal at all & is not unusual even when it comes to members of the same family (for example, ‘If you don’t Love Me’ by Jermaine Jackson in 1973).

Janet Jackson Shuts Down Tour Production to Be With Her Ailing Father
by Sophie Schillaci July 28, 2015

Janet Jackson is putting her tour prep on pause.

ET has learned that the "No Sleeep" singer has shut down production on her upcoming The Unbreakable World Tour to be by her father's side. On his 87th birthday, Saturday, July 25, Joe Jackson suffered a stroke and was admitted to a hospital in Brazil.

The 49-year-old singer will stay with her father until he is stable.

On Monday, the elder Jackson posted a statement from his hospital room on his website.

"To my family, friends, acquaintances and fans all over the world. I want to thank you all for your prayers, unwavering support and kind well wishes during these trying times," he wrote. "Through God's intervention the wonderful Doctors, Nurses and caretakers at the Albert Einstein Sao Paulo hospital have taken great care of me. God willing, I should be able to make a quick recovery and travel back home soon. Thank you all once again for your prayers and support."

Jackson's Unbreakable World Tour kicks off on Aug. 31 in Vancouver. Only North American dates have been announced, though additional world-wide dates are expected to be added. Meanwhile, Jackson's brand new single "No Sleeep," featuring J. Cole, continues to climb the charts.

Thanks for posting Tygger. Didn't see anything about this on tv. Did see something Jermaine posted about his dad.
Happy to see Janet is going to be with him.

Not too much press regarding this however, it is not surprising. For decades there has been a concerted effort by some media outlets to portray the Jackson family (including Michael) in a negative manner. This breaking news does not fit a decades old mold.

I did see a few announcements on major network news about the hospitalization on Monday. Short, but said Michael Jacksons father and patriarch of the famous Jackson family was hospitalized.

Barbee0715, I was referring to Janet postponing a world tour to care for her father. Her effort is commendable.

If she had postponed for her own ill health, it would be breaking news because outlets would take it as an opportunity to re-discuss Michael's health while preparing for TII.

I have tickets to the Vancouver show and haven't heard of any cancellations as of yet, but Joe seems like a pretty resilient guy, and I'm sure by August will be back on his feet as per usual?

I understand. I notice the announcement you posted noted that this was the second time she's postponing rehearsals, so yes, they're ready to pounce.
