I feel it would of been better to have a sheriff give a statement and not take questions. Especially given 1. the investigation is still underway and 2. the media have no respect whatsoever.

And that talent was his freedom, it was his constant reason. That's what an icon is. Thursday April 21st, 2016 Its a sad day in music...
Today we lost someone very special.
We lost an artist, an entertainer and an Icon
but most of all we lost a voice,
a very beautiful voice and on a personal note
I lost one of the best friends I ever had...
I also lost a rival, I pushed him and he pushed me to be the best, the very best...
He got there and I am so proud of him...
I remember walking home from our very first gig at The People’s Church in Minneapolis.
We were having one of those "One day we're gonna be stars" walks. One day we gonna have this and one day we gonna have that.
I never had any doubt ever but I never thought, one day the sitting black president of the United States of America would be talking about any of us, before or after we were gone, Crazy...

Gifted is a word tossed around these days like toilet tissue. The same with artist, musician and Genius...But Prince was truly all of those things and so much more.

He carried the torch for artists and embodied what that means to the fullest. He raised the bar high... The state of music today is in sad sorry shape. I've had to come to accept that people don't know the difference between
a truly gifted artist and a talent show contestant. Artists are born, they have no choice. Prince was a natural born artist with the gift of music. He had no choice, he was chosen...

Prince walked the walk for so many.

His music took us places only his mind could see and I thank him for sharing his gift...
I'm gonna miss him so much, over the years we became like ships passing in the night
yet every time we came together it felt as if no time had passed at all. We shared a brothers bond and an unspoken understanding that one day we would reunite and light the world on fire like we did in the very beginning.
I regret that never happened and I will take that with me...

Prince is not dead, not at all.

He can never die, his music is his immortality... He will continue to do what he has been doing for generations and inspire.
That is the power of music...
Yes it is a sad day and the winds of change have blown out a very bright light
but Prince Rogers Nelson put a stamp on this world that will never ever fade...

Shelby J. is absolutely heartbroken by the loss of her Brother, Mentor, Musical Collaborator and Dear Friend, Prince. Their 10 year bond was unbreakable and their love for one another unconditional. She was far more than a vocalist in his band. Shelby was his sister and trusted confidante. She is declining interviews at this time as she continues to process this devastating loss. Many thanks to each and every one of you that have shared your love and support with prayers, posts, private messages, texts and calls. It means the world to her! Nothing will ever compare to #Prince - especially live! Dude would go for 3 hours at an arena and then play 3 more at a little club around the corner. I simply thanked him for playing a second gig like that after he played the #BostonGarden. It was about ten or so years ago. I mean what do you say to Prince?? I just said as earnestly as I possibly could, "thank you." And he smiled that sly pirate smile. That was the second time I met Prince. The first time was when I was 17 (#1990) at #EddieMurphy's house in Beverly Hills- playing pool. Just me, Prince and Eddie Murphy playing pool. It was an 80's teenage wet dream. And I don't care if you were a girl or a guy, gay or straight, you'd be creaming your pants too. Eddie was being Eddie- grabbing his crotch and placing it over the corner pocket while I was trying to make a shot. I couldn't wipe the goofy smile off my face- Eddie knew I was having trouble taking it all in. He just said "it's show biz, man." But the line I most remember was the only 3 words Prince said to me all night. He was lining up his shot to break the balls and as he leaned in, he looked over at me and said in his deep, quiet voice, "How was Rio?" I don't even know what I said back. The New Kids had just played #RockinRio and he was asking how it went. How was Rio? I thought. Doesn't come close to playing pool with Eddie Murphy and Prince. He reminds me so much of MJ in this interview. It's sad that he had to deal with a lot of the same ignorance (people saying he "sold out to the white audience" by doing Purple Rain) but he handled it well.

Prince is one of the reasons that parental advisory stickers started being put on albums, because Tipper Gore heard her daughter playing Darling Nikki. Really that ultimately backfired though, because kids would go straight to the stickered records, and buy them, like 2 Live Crew albums. Almost like an advertisement to help sales back then.

True-I remember all that-first time I heard of Tipper Gore-I didn't hear the songs she was talking about, so wasn't sure. (Actually I probably did hear the song, but didn't make out the lyrics).

But I never heard about something like this being shown on TV in 1991-no uproar? It was like a scene out of Caligula. LOL.

MTV was on cable though. Black Or White debuted on Fox (I think as Bart Simpson was in the video). Fox is a regular TV network and was still relatively new at the time. Married... With Children was on Fox, so the video probably wasn't a big deal for them. A few years before the Black Or White video and the Prince MTV Awards performance, Pepsi dropped Madonna's commercials she had made for them from being shown on TV because of the controversy about her Like A Prayer video. I do remember people making jokes about Prince's performance like on the Arsenio Hall Show. Here's a skit from In Living Color
