And that indeed includes fans. I have seen all these attempts at making him out to be as some sort of secret womanizer, "man-hoe" and stuff like that. And that IMO actually stems from an overreaction by fans to all the rumours questioning his sexuality. As annoying as those untrue rumours and speculations about his sexuality are, making up fantasies on the other end of the spectrum and uncritically believing every and any woman who comes up with a story is not the answer. Believing someone like Shana is desperate because she has more holes in her story than a Swiss Cheese. And like you said, all her fans care about is her claim of having sex with MJ and for that they are willing to overlook every other (IMO very deliberate) insinuation in her book that play right into that tabloid portrayal of MJ that they think they are fighting by believing Shana's story. They are very short-sighted and they don't realize that Shana is trying to play to two crowds here: deluding fans into believing that her book is "positive" just because she, as a woman, claims sex with MJ; but at the same time she constantly drops deliberate hooks to tabloids that she knows they would pick up and give publicity to her book.
It was the same with the Taraborelli book. I have seen fans cheerleading on it simply because of his juicy sex scenes of MJ and LMP. Since this was at a time when most of the media said their relationship was a sham, fans celebrated and embraced JRT just for saying otherwise. But all the while they short-sightedly overlooked all other vile insinuations in his book that actually play right into the tabloid portrayal of MJ. Of course, MJ and Lisa's relationship was real, they both said so and it is pretty obvious too - if from nothing else the way LMP behaved after divorce (because only someone who was in a real relationship with someone can be so hurt about the break-up). But we do not need JRT to confirm anything and we do not need graphic descriptions of their sexual life coming from questionable "sources" such as an alleged "friend" of LMP, Monica Pastelle, whom I never heard of outside of JRT's book and tabloids and I question whether she even exists and even if she does I definitely question if she is who she claims to be, because I don't think LMP would tolerate any of her "friends" talk about her sex life to the tabloid media. Just a hint: Ray Chandler constantly quotes JRT's book in his book when he wants stories to shade MJ's character...
I too feel that even some of his own fans aren't ready to accept MJ for who he was and they want him to be someone else. I have no idea why being a womanizer is seen as such a great character trait that it is seen as favourable compared to whom MJ really was - at least by some fans. Womanizing men aren't really that great and cool in real life. And no, it isn't the way to be "a normal man", no matter how twisted society's values are today. The way MJ is characterized in Shana's book isn't a positive portrayal of a man. He is portrayed as a cynical user of Shana and other women. How is that cool?
To this her fans would probably say we just do not want to accept it because it is not some angelic, perfect portrayal of MJ - that's always their defense of Shana. That's not true, of course. Don't get it twisted. The reason we refuse to accept it is because Shana is not credible, plain and simple. We are not obliged to accept the very much self-serving story of a liar who also seems to have a narcisstic personality disorder. That doesn't equal to thinking MJ was perfect. We know he wasn't. He had his flaws. But Shana is just not credible and her story is ridiculous. And it is her fans who insist it is a "positive" portrayal of MJ. We just point out that no, it isn't but that's not the reason why we do not accept it. The reason is Shana's lack of credibility.
