Sometimes MJ's lyrics just hit you

It's like the lyrics he wrote, and those he chose to sing, had a more profound message than, in many cases, their surroundings.

In the shower today and I'm So Blue came on and this verse just grabbed me despite having heard the song many times. It is so heartbreaking when considered out of the context of a romantic ballad:

They told me you should sing a song of happy when you're feeling blue.
I've been singing for so very long
Still crying.

I know. Michael's lyrics are truly amazing. The meaning behind every song is mesmerizing. Especially Will You Be There. The last part always gets me.

I get this too - Michael had a knack for articulating in his music exactly what people feel and think. I've recently been listening to We've Had Enough and it's almost chilling because of how bang on the money he was. I mean this was a song he wrote before 2004 when the worldview was drastically different and now 12 years later it is almost prophetic in how it fits the situation in the world today, with the peak in gun crime and police violence in the US and the now visible repercussions of military interventions in the Middle East. I sometimes wonder what would have happened if this song was released in today instead of in 2004 - I think it would have been a big deal and resonate very deeply in the American psyche. It's ridiculous to think that no artists today make this sort of music or have the courage to articulate such messages and we turn to a man who advocated it before others even realised it was an issue.

I agree.

I also hope very much that We've Had Enough will be released (maybe as a bonus song) on the next all new MJ album.

The lyrics to stranger in moscow and Is it scary always hit me right in the feels. Heartbreaking when you think about it.

Yes. Those two in particular.
Believe it or not, I only listened to "Is It Scary" in full for the first time last year (just heard the snippet in Ghost), and when I realized what he was really singing, I started bawling.
Only listened to it one other time.

I agree. Some MJ lyrics really hit you. As it was already refered, the last part of Will You Be There and I'm So Blue (Bad had so many good outtakes!) are really emmotional. But one that never fails give the chills is Morphine. That bridge man... so sad.

It is crazy how you could listen to a song a hundred times, sing along and everything.. and one day you sit there and actually step out of it and LISTEN to the lyrics and it hits you very differently

This. So much.

Yes, the lyrics of "Is It Scary" hit me hard when I fully listened to the song for the first time. It is one of his most personal songs. I love the melody as well. It is one of those songs that I crave listening to and at the same time give me a knot in my stomach.

Childhood. I can just feel the emotion and sadness in Michae's voice. It's the only MJ song that hits me really hard and I find it incredibly difficult to listen to it.

Yesss. I was listening to Earth Song and I just started crying. I don't know if it's just because i'm being emotional today but this isn't the first time his lyrics made me cry. When you listen to Earth Song and listen to the lyrics, you think of what's going on in the world right now and what other people have to go through. Sometimes I forget or just ignore what mess is going on in the world because I'm so invested in my own life.
This lyric got me-Did you ever stop to notice, All the children dead from war
That just reminded me of what happened in Aleppo, the children and innocent lives that were lost. There are still people stuck in Aleppo, suffering.
And then Be Not Always. The first time I listened to that song I was bawling. Yes I'm a cry baby but whatever. Michael is amazing ok?

I get you with Be Not Always. I don't listen to it often but it effects me every time when I do. He puts so much emotion into it.

I notice his songs get me especially when I haven't listened to them in awhile.

I cried over Stranger In Moscow yesterday.
Also, little off topic, but sometimes his vocals just hit me. I am so used to listening to him that sometimes I forget how much I love his voice until I really hear it.
