Michael Jackson Scream - The Album

The Estate is approaching Scream in the same manner that most modern recording artists approach holiday albums -- when that time of year rolls around, they're gonna push it and hope for a little sales bump. Will the album become a classic? Most likely no. Will other similarly-themed albums sell better? Without a doubt. But it's still something worth doing, and it's far better than a standard "compilation".

I was in New York yesterday and saw quite a bit of promo for it on the various billboards. Finally picked it up today.

Hating this project seems pointless at this juncture. At best, it's a themed compilation album that brings some less-appreciated songs to the forefront for the general public to finally recognize; at worst, it fades as another MJ collection. Why people are calling it "stupid" and "ridiculous" and "silly" is completely beyond me.

14000 hardcore fans have bought the album - me included so happy .(y)

Retailers want to make sales and exceed targets too, im in retail and I know that if I can make a sale of a seasonal product I would make sure its available, if the album is in stock next year they will be pushed to try and make a sale

could not find Scream at local Walmart. There was thriller, number ones, dangerous and xscape.

LOL it's not because "they know what they're doing". It's because WHATEVER they release, the majority of fans will buy it. They are 'successful business men', but only because of most of you support these kind of....silly projects.

John Brancas career spans a lot more and longer than The Estate, the guys top in his field, and I wouldnt call Scream "silly"

I am looking forward to see the 1st week sales...

Hope it does good. - And hope it will do good in the next few weeks. - Halloween coming and the new Animated series.

I am not a fan of the new remix of Thriller... - But then again... anything new will help promote I guess. :)

That makes absolutely no sense.

The year after each of these Christmas albums were released, why didn't people forget them? They went into public consciousness from day 1? No.

People actively search for Xmas albums at Xmas - and shops/iTunes etc promote them each year. Same for Halloween albums and songs.

The animated film will be repeated each holiday season, and the Estate/Sony only has to put out some cheap reminders of the songs and album.

You think they are doing all this for one holiday season?

I think the one thing to consider is there is an alternative to the Scream album, which is the Thriller album. For people that are looking to buy some music for Halloween, are they going to buy Scream or Thriller? Will they even know what the Scream album is? My opinion is Thriller will continue to get the sales every Halloween.

Not necessarily true. Maybe 15years ago yes, but now with the ability of being able to buy individual songs digitally, people will tend to buy only the song Thriller and nothing else.
With the package of Scream they are encitcing people to buy a whole package of Michael Jackson Halloween themed songs which is a clever move and it hasn't really been done before with that theme in mind.

Exactly. And if this is the soundtrack to the animated movie, and people buy it for their Halloween parties and like it, how many will then go ahead and buy Thriller? If you like what you hear, you'll buy more.

Back in 83, the day after the Motown 25 special, I drove to the record store after work, bought Thriller AND I bought Off the Wall.

Brilliant!! What an amazing time to be a fan

Re: New Album Coming September 29? Posters Located in Germany

It's most likely a compilation of existing (remixed?) material related to the animated Halloween movie.

If the movie's well received by its core target audience, the songs will reach a younger generation.

I can't with all the horror themed releases lined up though - Thriller 3D, the Halloween movie and Scream! Nope, SERIOUSLY LOVING IT!

After such a dry spell too

There's a Halloween move coming out? Is that the same as the CBS Halloween Special?

Yep. It's the same. :)

There's lot of physical advertising, but it would be great to see some digital advertising closer to Halloween too - especially on the main pages of Apple Music and Spotify.

Honestly it's a really great party album, and heaps of people have parties for Halloween. Perfect album to just play in the background!

Agreed.

The promotion for SCREAM is benefiting 'Number Ones'. It's already up to #28 in the UK midweek Top 100 album charts - with SCREAM currently at #4.

Good to see, but I expect it to drop in the latter part of the week because fans tend to pre-order or go out early and buy from shops.
Tom Petty's death could prove to be disruptive to the chart too. It won't be on the scale of MJ or Prince's death but I could imagine he'd have 1 album toward the top of the chart above MJ.

But the songs on a Christmas album will have Christmas songs on them. This set has Dirty Diana and Leave Me Alone on it. It is a little silly, to me.

I get that you're positive about this release, but your repeated assertions that we should all feel the same are tiring.

Hey if the releases gains MJ new fans or at least positive headlines for once then everybody should be pleased.
Isn't that something to be positive about at least?
Better the news focus on Scream than legal issues the estate have been facing.

If you find it tiring, and the project silly, you have a real easy solution. You avoid this particular thread.

Why put yourself through it? I wouldn't.

I hope to get the LP for Christmas. - Think it looks great.

I hope many new fans will buy this record. - Maybe they will then like what they hear and buy more/other MJ albums.

I've seen some digital advertising in downtown Toronto over the past few weeks, as well as some billboard and subway poster ads for Scream. I think #4 is a decent chart position for an album of re-releases. We know Thriller is already going to do well.

That's not at all what I'm trying to get across.

Myself and several other members are trying to explain why we think the release is harmless at worst, because there are a fair amount of people using this as ammunition against the Estate. Expressing your discontent is one thing; coming in and insisting that this is yet another disgrace to the Michael Jackson brand is another. Not saying that you in particular have made that claim, but it has most certainly been made by many.

It's a fun little project, albeit questionably compiled. Nothing more, nothing less.

I always find it odd that people keep coming back to a subject they have no interest in/think is silly/is tiresome.

It's like being in a pub, hearing some friends talking about a subject (let's say Harry Potter), and going over to them saying;

"I think the latest Harry Potter book is rubbish. I'm not interested in it."

Walking away. Coming back later.

"I still think its rubbish and I'm still not interested."

Walking away. Coming back later.

"Harry Potter book? Rubbish. In fact your constant positivity towards it, every time I come back to listen, is tiresome to me!"

What would you expect them too say? Politely, I would guess something along the lines of;

"Then don't keep coming over and listening to us. Go and find a conversation that you don't find tiresome".

It's very, very, odd.

Without arguments, mis communications, and opinions this thread would be 4 pages lol! .. Shoot most threads would!

Or you might find the more positive posters would come on threads more, without the constant negativity?

I can't be the only one who stays away from most threads these days, because I'm tired of people repeatedly telling me they're not interested in something, over and over again?

It's also possible that the threads might be shorter, but more interesting and pertinent to the subject at hand.

^ So that's another way saying we agree..

Here is the upcoming chart week - an estimate. Good job boy-cotters lol. Now enjoy this!
P.S. Who is Tamar Braxton...? Even Toni Braxton's sister is able to move albums - I guess she doesn't have an army of boy cotters.

Shania Twain will take the #1 spot on both charts with her first album in 15 years. We’re currently projecting Demi Lovato to land at the #2 spot. However, we’re keeping an eye out on A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie which could provide a spoiler. Tom Petty’s Greatest Hits surges into the top 10 after his death on 10/2.

If you find it tiring, and the project silly, you have a real easy solution. You avoid this particular thread.

Why put yourself through it? I wouldn't.

I'm not 'putting myself through' anything bro, I don't hang my emotional or psychological state on things like this. Your problem is you feel positively about this release and you want to live in a world where everyone feels the same way. Life isn't like that. And you needn't feel defensive because we both love Michael.

My point was precisely that we should state our opinions freely but it's best not to repeat ourselves. It is this in particular I find "tiring" because it begins to feel like one is pushing their opinions on others without breaking new ground. Eventually you are reading the same thing over and over in one thread. It is not 'Scream' that I find tiring, it's that.

But my point is this;

Once someone has decided a project holds no interest for them, is "silly", or others have said " just another compilation album", what more is to be added from those people?

You wouldn't hold a conversation or debate in real life like that. Once you told a group of people you had no interest in their conversation, they would expect you to leave the topic. Constantly going back into that conversation, uninvited, to repeat negativity would get you very short shrift.

There must be hundreds of topics on here that I have no interest in. 'The size of Michael's manhood', 'Did he find love in the dark?', etc. If I kept going on go those topics to tell people how silly I thought it was, or what a waste of evolutionary brain power it was, etc., I would imagine people would get very tired of it. And, in any case, I have no wish to spoil other people's enjoyment in life, however they get it. Why should I?

It seems to me that some people hate other people being positive about something they've decided they don't like. I find that most odd. Perhaps Freud could tell us something about that?
