This is the day & age of streaming, so it will still debut in the top 10, even if it doesn't rise on the iTunes charts. And Drake is someone who dominates the streaming charts, but not the pure sales, yet he always dominates the main charts and that proves my point that streaming >>>> pure sales in 2018.

I just purchased it on Amazon. I’m enjoying this song. It’s nice to hear Michael’s voice on it. I think the song is well-done.

Doesn't it take ten streams to equal one album, or something like that, when we're talking about numbers and chart positions.

Yes, something like that. But most people nowadays, at least most younger people prefer streaming over buying music. Take Drake for example. His album is set to debut with Sales plus Streaming(SPS) of 725k-750k, of which only 140k-150k account for pure sales. So even if we take out pure sales, the streaming numbers would be something like 600k and that would be good enough for his new album to debut at number 1. And that's exactly my point. That sales aren't so important these days. As long as the song/album is doing well on streaming like Don't Matter To Me, it should easily debut in the top 10.

Wednesday Update

UK MIDWEEK Chart

#2 - Don't Matter To Me- Drake with Michael Jackson

Final numbers tomorrow

Still #1 on Spotify UK, push this as a single and we've got another multi week number one incoming. Drake is notorious for 9-10 week number one singles recently.

George Ezra is 10k ahead at the moment. 10 thousand ahead is unheard of, it will likely debut at number 2. But it's very rare to get a number one in the first week. The first ever debut at number one was in 1995 by Michael Jackson. Since then, 23 years later, there's only been 30 debuts at number one.

I've looked at sales from the past 24 hours and with 500 more sales, then it would be number 10 on iTunes, which would lead to organic growth. But this week there's no need, George Ezra is miles ahead. Number 2 is decent though.
Sort of need to pray that England don't win on Saturday or else the chances of an 8th number one are out the window.

I read that the song should be on the radio on Monday.

You start talking about the UK chart and then switch to Billboard? Confused...

Looks like Don't Matter To Me will eventually reach top 5 in the US, which means that it will be MJ's highest charting single there since 1995's You Are Not Alone, that obviously peaked at number 1. The US really did MJ dirty from the 90s onward. No wonder Michael stopped doing concerts in his homeland. They didn't deserve him.

Well didnt rock my world reach top 5 on billboard charts?

No, it peaked at number 10. Since You Are Not Alone, MJ has only had two top 10 hits in US. You Rock My World, that peaked at #10 and Love Never Felt So Good, which peaked at #9. Songs like They Don't Care About Us, Stranger in Moscow & Blood On The Dance Floor didn't even peak in the top 10 in US. Like I said before, MJ was so underappreciated by the US fans after the 80s, that no wonder he stopped doing concerts in his homeland. I don't blame him.

Butterflies

Billboards website is wrong then.. interesting

The site actually says butterflies and love never felt so good with JT reached number one

https://www.billboard.com/music/michael-jackson/chart-history/hot-adult-r-and-b-airplay/song/411363
That's the R&B chart, not the Hot 100 which is the main chart in Billboard that the media generally refers to. I remember Butterflies getting a lot of airplay on the local R&B station, but have never heard it on the pop station. I've also heard Heaven Can Wait on the R&B station during the Quiet Storm show.

How do we know this will even go Top 10 in the US? I haven’t heard a peep about it from billboard or from Drake, the estate . It dropped a week ago and everything has been quiet since .

Get a life?? Yall come off so ****ing disrespectful on here man. Smh stupid ass assholes!

MJ fans openly protested Sony for years. TDCAU did incredible based on no radio play. Sony campaign to destroy MJ started way before invincible.

Yeah that's just not a thing lol.

Please do not try to re-write history. MJ fans were very vocal at their mis-treatment of MJ. Why did that turn to silence? This isn't the point of the thread but you can't simply re-write history. Sony's disgusting US promotional efforts were long before Invincible.

A label not promoting something does not equal "trying to destroy" MJ. A ridiculous amount of advertising went into the HIStory album. It was a choice to focus on other territories as MJ was more popular outside of the US.

They Don't Care About Us hit high in the charts off sales alone as Sony refused to release it to radio. They consistently delayed the release, I don't know if they ever did. HIStory was widely ignored by Sony US even though success was obviously going to be there. I'm positive Earth Song wasn't even released as a single. No wonder MJ didn't bother with the US after the Bad Tour.

Like I said, it was a choice by MJ and Sony to mainly focus on other markets. He was much more popular elsewhere. I'd say Sony not releasing TDCAU to radio isn't that surprising. It was quite controversial when it was released (made up or not there was still controversy). But yeah this is pretty off topic so I'm gonna stop now.

I think it would be fair to say that Michael's music/singles in the 90s post-Remember The Time, struggled to find a place for themselves on US radio. In many ways it is easy to see why. Just from the overall sound and direction Michael had gone in during these years and where the country was at musically.

It's worth noting MJ's singles performed far better across the 90s in the UK - indeed even better than the previous decade's crop. And during these years the UK and the US were world's apart in terms of charts.

I'm no Sony fan but the notion that they tried to destroy MJ is so ridiculous. Why would they try to destroy their biggest asset? Their biggest tool for financial profit.

You think Sony liked MJ?

That is correct. After the 80s, MJ had more success in the UK than he did in US. Earth song remains Michael's most successful single in the UK with 6 weeks at number 1. It is his only million there. Other songs such as Heal The World, Stranger in Moscow & History failed badly in the US, but were top 10 hits in the UK. I think the controversies surrounding MJ affected his chart performances during the 90s in his homeland, but the UK fans stuck by his side through thick and thin. Even in 2003 when second allegations arised, UK fans managed to make One More Chance a top 5 hit, while it failed miserably in the US.

It's safe to say that the UK public love and appreciate Michael Jackson way more than the US public.
