Drake featuring Michael Jackson (TONIGHT)

Why are some people being so rude? I just read one person asking another person if they are stupid... and just other comments that are fairly tasteless.

Ps yes Sony liked Michael, that fall out went both ways.. they both didn't make smart choices and they negatively fed off each other.. I do believe Sony did have the intention of having the full catalogue though!!

Earth Song

That is correct. After the 80s, MJ had more success in the UK than he did in US. Earth Song remains Michael's most successful single in the UK with 6 weeks at number 1. It is his only million there. Other songs such as Heal The World, Stranger in Moscow & History failed badly in the US, but were top 10 hits in the UK.
If you look at what was popular in the US during that time, Earth Song is not really a good choice for a single here. This Time Around would have been a better choice, especially since Notorious B.I.G. was a huge act at the time. Even U2 wasn't really doing message music during that era and Bono was dressing up like a devil pimp.

UK: Drake ft Michael Jackson debuts at number 2! Apart from YRMW, which was number 2 also, this is the highest entry since Blood on the Dance Floor!

Michael scores his 44th UK Top 10 hit. That's so freaking cool.

A debut at No.2 is impressive stuff! Also worth noting that as of today video streams are also counted towards the official charts in the UK.

By Roger F., July 3.:

The Scorpion is stinging everything else on the pop charts this week.

Drake’s new album, “Scorpion,” is a massive hit far surpassing Kanye, his minions, Bey and Jay, everyone.

“Scorpion” is on track to sell 740,000 copies by Thursday night. That number is almost all from streaming. Paid downloads on iTunes and amazon will come only to around 150,000.

Every song from the “double album” set is on the Streaming Hits chart, as well. Every single track is in the top 20 or top 30. That includes songs Drake sampled with Michael Jackson (his estate should be happy) and Mariah Carey (her sample comes from a song she sampled largely from Maurice White, late leader of Earth Wind & Fire).

Money is just pouring. “Scorpion” is number 1 everywhere. And that’s good for the kid Drake admitted to fathering on this record. The mother is former adult-film star Sophie Brussaux. She and the kid can relax in the South of France forever.

Will “Scorpion” be in the Grammy mix? Undoubtedly. You can already expect it to win Best Rap Album and probably in the general Album of the Year category.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Aubrey Drake Graham is Canadian, He turns 32 this fall. His father is black, American, Catholic raised in Memphis and is a well known studio drummer. Drake’s mother is Jewish, from Canada. Drake, a dual citizen, was Bar Mitzvahed.

Every record this guy puts out turns to gold immediately. His biggest hit is “Hotline Bling,” with the refrain ‘you don’t call me on your cell phone’ set to the beat of Timmy Thomas’s “Why Can’t We Live Together.”

The song has grown on me, a lot.

I bought it on Google Play Music last night, and added it to my iTunes and cloud (for my iPhone.) I'm enjoying it. It's got a haunting melody, and Michael sounds wonderful in it. I kind of wish they hadn't messed with his vocals, but it fits the song.

MJ sounds terrible on it (through no fault of his own). You can barely recognise it’s him. What on earth did they do to his voice..

Song is dropping fast on US iTunes. #34 this morning. In my feelings is set to be Drakes next single as well is steadily making its way in the top 5 on iTunes. Radio AirPlay and a video should help.

made it "current" and appealing to 2018 ears.

Esytate if you must do it this way for m, please
Consider emo rap artist juice wrld, with m's vocals, no digitizing , and with breathtaking visuals from a strong video at some point. thanks

The song grows on me but the digitizing of the voice takes away from the vocal quality and the first portions of Michael's singing just doesnt flow from drakes section well.. musically it's not patterned right.. it's almost like they should have just kept the "it dont matter to me" part and cut out the start.. or, change drakes section to fit what Michael is singing

I wonder if we are listening to the same song. I like it. Of course, Michael’s vocals are altered a little; however, his voice is very recognizable. After I downloaded the song, Michael’s voice is even clearer.

#3 Don't Matter To Me - Drake Feat. Michael Jackson

I'm not surprised it's doing well. My niece who is 18 just texted me and let me know about the song. She likes the song, says it's very good. So when the young generation likes a song like this then you know it will do well. I on the other hand don't care for it that much. I'm from Michael's generation, so it's not my taste. But, hey all I care right now is that it is doing well and keeping Michael's legacy alive. :sarmoti

People do seem to be accessing different versions and having very different listening experiences, so I'm not sure why that's happening. I think it's definitely recognisable as Michael, without question. It has had heavy processing, of course, which many fans don't like and often either react strongly to, or reject, straight-up.

I can tell the singing is Michael Jackson without a doubt. A bit of autotune yes, we aren't used to hearing that on a MJ song. But it fits the narrative they are trying to go with. Could easily be The Weeknd. It's not a game changer song, but it will be a popular song for the younger generation who appreciates Drake and Weeknd, etc. That's the reason its doing well.

Also, I was told Monday July 9th it will officially drop as a single and we should hear more from both Drake and the Estate. Expect further promotional material.

It's definitely Michael Jackson singing and I can now sort of understand why they decided to autotune his voice. Majority of artists nowadays use autotune and young generation of today are used to that. I've a friend who isn't really into Michael Jackson's voice but loves Don't Matter To Me. He tells me that it's his favorite MJ song. So I can see why they decided to autotune his voice. To make him sound more appealing to the younger generation.

Yes, it goes officially for radio adds next week.

I think its a myth that the young generation only likes autotune. I bought it on amazon, too, just now. I like a nice chill and sexy tune, though I kind of dont like the content of the song from what I can make out from the lyrics. Is that Michael's voice around the 03:20 minute mark?

UK: Drake ft Michael Jackson debuts at number 2! Apart from YRMW, which was number 2 also, this is the highest entry since Blood on the Dance Floor!

And apart from Man In The Mirror which was a #2 hit in 2009.

Other songs such as Heal The World, Stranger in Moscow & History failed badly in the US, but were top 10 hits in the UK. I think the controversies surrounding MJ affected his chart performances during the 90s in his homeland, but the UK fans stuck by his side through thick and thin. Even in 2003 when second allegations arised, UK fans managed to make One More Chance a top 5 hit, while it failed miserably in the US.

It's safe to say that the UK public love and appreciate Michael Jackson way more than the US public.

I'm not sure it was about loyalty. And while I'm sure the controversies played a part, I honestly think Michael's music was so far away from where the US was at radio-wise it just couldn't find a place. Even the UK during these years this was a similar situation to a certain extent however the dance remixes helped there.

To hear that the track might be dropping isn't shocking to me. Most of the initial listens were strictly a curiosity thing. The internet and Drake made it a "must listen" for much of the world. Once you hear it though the magic is gone, which has nothing to do with its quality mind you. I played it once and have no desire to ever listen to it again personally. I don't fault those who enjoy it or anything whatsoever. The overall point is more so just that a lot of people did just that....thus it started out strong and is starting to fade into "old news".
